Why the nerf for Backup? It's not even great.
Yeah, it seems a little odd. I probably occasionally try to use the backup, then go "Wow, the buff banner is so much better" and ignore it again for a while.

So Protip for Heavy (aka Montgomery): it was pretty easy to pick out which heavy you were because you were always out in the middle of no man's land with no one around you. Yes you're a giant ham-man with a giant gun, but you're not invincible. Try and stick with the team a little more, or surprise people around corners. This should help you with your dying all the time problem.
Poor poor Montgomery...

I think I ended up 27-32... that's about what I get. Heavy makes me feel strong like bear. Nobody can defeat bear.

Man that last stand was great. We defended the same point for 11 minutes straight

Fun stuff as usual, GAF. Thanks to...uh, I can't remember your name...but thanks to that guy with the Chinese/Asian letters in his name. You really helped me out as Engineer (and others). Thanks for the building support. I really suck as that class -_-

Also, I had some awesome (IMO) teamwork moments with a couple Heavies, where I'd be the Medic Ubering them. Stuff like that definitely makes me appreciate you guys and the game more.

In Sniper news...I still suck/jam up when I see an enemy. It's like..."Gah! He's standing still! WHY CAN'T I HEADSHOT HIM, DAMMIT!" I did get a couple nice shots in some maps, though.

Thanks to n0b for giving me a free engineer's hat, the texas ten-gallon. I am probably not a good engineer and it is probably my least played class, but now I can be more motivated to play around with it and have fun, since I have a cool hat. :)

Shhh!

How am I going to get headshots as a terrible sniper if you give people good advice like that!

Also, the backup is good when you know the other team only has kritz medics. It's also good on Egypt for using the torches to build up rage then switching to the buff banner to get free buffs at the start of the match.

Montgomery I saw you head the wrong way on Dustbowl stage 3 about five times during the defense of point 1. You don't have to go all the way around the external corridor to get to the point:

You just have to go through the spawn door at the top right where the silo is.

Got the game during the Xmas sale. But technically only started playing this week. (played a bit on 360 before).
I'll prolly keep fairly quiet for a while till I get comfortable. Defiantly fun times.

Messed around with the beta updates a bit. Apparently replays don't work on listen servers yet. The server has to both allow replays and enable recording. The server browser lets you search by servers that allow replays, but all of the ones that I found didn't have replays enabled at the time.

From what I saw though, it sounds like the way replays work is that the server just saves a global replay. When you hit the replay menu on the client it'll break down the replay of the current game based on your lives. you can then save your replay slices to your own hard drive.

They added a couple of small things that aren't mentioned. You can now vote for map changes scramble, etc. through the client. Semms kind of pointless when every server is running sourcemod, manimod or one of the others anyway. There are cvars to disable the individual votes though.

You can also request for another player to coach you. It'll invite someone to the game who gets to play as spectator. They can see an outline around their student and issue commands as well as voice chat with them. I didn't get a chance to try it myself, but it seems like an interesting idea.

The payload bots are pretty crappy. I mean, the cp bots weren't fantastic, but they weren't terrible anyway. The payload bots seem a lot worse. I played 2 full rounds of upward (one attacking 1 defending) as a spy basically just observing them. It seems like 90% of the time they just stand around and build uber. They're also not very aggressive. When they see you they attack, but they won't chase you. They'll run away even if they're a pyro and I'm a spy.

And speaking of pyros, for some reason the pyro bots just airblast opponents away BEFORE attempting to burn them. They're also not very smart. Since they also randomly airblast teammates a bunch of times I'd get airblasted by one while disguised and they wouldn't react at all.

The other thing is the bots seem to be both blind and have laser-like precision (I set them to expert). There were dozens of times where I uncloaked in front of enemies and they just walked right passed me. They also walked past each other a bunch of times without engaging. When you bump into them they'll immediately call spy and run away (attacking as they do). On the other hand, when they do attack all of their shots are 100% accurate.

One thing that they added that I've been hoping for forever is the ability to hide duplicates on the equip screen. Overall, I'm glad to see that these last two beta updates have been much more about improving the actual game and the balance between the classes.

SO, since I'm going to be in Vegas all next week and Remy's going to be away at PAX East we've decided to add a bunch of new admins to the server:

ArtistDude
n0b
Doug Welder
DrKirby
Commisar Bacon
Toxic
Wartime
Twig

Blizzard, Javaman and Neroh were already admins even if they pretended they weren't!

So, bind something to sm_admin and lay the smackdown.
Oh boy oh boy, prepare for admin hax!

Though I am still not an admin of the group, so I can't spam requests to play :/

Edit: How can I do noclip :/ Also, Donkey Kong doesn't download.

What's so great about Bill's hat? I get that it was a promo item, is rare and can be worn on any class but it looks so generic... it's just a random looking hat. Why all the demand?

I will give Soldier's Stash hat for any Heavy class hat

I have a Heavy's Hard Counter (umbrella) that I never wear if you want to trade sometime :D

Also, I'm still looking for Warrior's Spirit and a Crusader's Crossbow if anyone gets a dupe!

Also also, I'm in the market for The Big Kill revolver ;)

Hey, I remember you. I played Medic when I first started as well. It definitely helps you get a feel for the game and see how your teammates/certain classes act/should act and help you branch off from there. Although, I do still love playing as Medic. It's satisfying and fun.

TFC sniper would be awesome but would never happen

If you could paint the stock hat black you'd be in business.

....That would be nice, for the next update. Being able to paint/name/describe the default hats, like you can name/describe default weapons.

They really did well with the new Training Modes, I was wondering how they would do the Spy and Engineer ones.

Though I did break the Spy one, it's all very well done.

Cower, peasants! Flee, terrified ronin! Crap in your ancient Japanese bamboo underpants, feudal warlords! For something approaches unlike anything you have ever seen! The Shogun Pack -- a collaboration between Team Fortress 2, the TF community, and Total War: Shogun 2 -- descends upon you like a rising sun! (But in reverse.)

That's right, Japan fans! Unlike other updates, The Shogun Pack represents a three-way partnership of feudal clans to depose a crooked emperor (the emperor being played in this case by "a lack of updates" for this metaphor to work). The awe-inspiring result? Eight all-new, Shogun-themed items for your head-wearing and/or neck-cleaving pleasure. And, in keeping with the three-way theme, you've got three ways to get your hands on them:

* 1. Pre-order Total War: Shogun 2 from Steam and get all eight items free. (You: "THAT'S INCREDIBLE!")
* 2. Buy all eight items in Team Fortress 2's Mann Co. Store. (You: "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! I WON'T BELIEVE IT!")
* 3. Collect all eight items through in-game item drops or crafting. (You: "SOMEONE CALL AN AMBULANCE! I'M HAVING A HEART ATTACK! FROM JOY!")

Pick any one of the three to get your items! Heck, pick ALL three! (Don't actually do this. -Legal Dept.) Whatever your choice, be sure to check out The Shogun Pack!

Hey, they finally updated the "Content hosting provided by:" text. Now it says Portal 2 instead of L4D1.

Also, anyone get the patches twice?

Drkirby

Odd, they aren't showing up in the Mann Co catalog or the store yet. I want to know if they are reskins or new weapons.

I'm guessing they are new weapons which wont be very good like most new weapons that are added. Sick looking though I'll say that.

There are a few sound effects called things like "tf_samurai_noisemaker_seta", I wonder if there will actually be more Noise Makers or if it is just the weapon sounds.

I uninstalled TF2 for the 3rd time this week simply because I spend too much time playing it. They then announce the most badass pack for the plebians. Fuck it. I must resist. They're just meaningless items.

TF2 items has the item descriptions up. All Hats are Hats (No misc Mask :/), there is a noise maker.

Warfan does -90% damage but target it hit will have Jarate like Mini-crit effect. Is for Scout
Kunai reduces the spy health -65, but he heals upon backstab. Also has some hidden lunchbox minicrit stat?
Sword can be used by Demo and Solder, but is "Honor bound", so it can't be put away till you kill someone with it. You heal to full health upon a kill, but I am not sure how much damage it does since it has a hidden stat that says it does 1% damage.
The new Buff Banner thing's hidden stat is unique, so it may do a different buff.
