I think what can make DRM worse is probably gold requirement, you'd NEED gold to play games at all! or at least for the resale part or if you're not gold you can't play offline at all, 24h or else. Now that would be one way to push subscriptions...

On the "it gets worse" front, theres lots of loose threads still overlapping this recent "official" statement.

The whole "fee" for used games being the same price as a new game isn't something that was plucked from thin air. Something was behind Harrisons comments, and he's not just some no-name underling that would be "confused". The ratio of price as well on what retailers would be allowed to re-sell games at as well, thats gonna be something they can now keep in check.

Also consider all the other aspects of the used game situation and what MS has tried to do this generation with its paywall. You think you're accessing that "gifted" game without an Xbox Live subscription? You think any of those scant positive features such as accessing your stuff on another system are going to be "free" and not parts of tiered Live Gold? Theres plenty of scope on just how much more insane Microsoft can get with this.

Worse still is the fact that we now know this was THEIR IDEA. No pressure. Just insanity from nowhere because they felt this is what the industry wants.

If we are to believe CBOAT, we'll not hear any additional information on the Xbone DRM in the next few weeks.

Kinda matches up with Microsoft cancelling those 1 on 1 interviews.

Seems like they really want to let this DRM debacle die down and hope people will forget about it if they do it for long enough.

I wonder what could be so much worse. I mean apart from having to send blood samples to microsoft to validate that 10 family members thing, I can't think of anything.

Online paywall mandatory, maybe? I dunno.

I can only imagine we're looking at the end of Xbox Live Silver here. I mean, if you're playing the console, you obviously have access to the internet, so why wouldn't you want to pay for gold?

SMFH...

Okay I'm no longer amused, I'm really really interested...
<tenterhooks>

The DRM is in fact

My God... I can't even imagine how worse things could get with this.

Two of my family members were hell bent on getting X1 and they didn't even know the full story behind this DRM nonsense. After I informed them of MS' plans they said they were going to reconsider. I hope everyone here spreads the word as much as possible. MS can't get a dime off this bullshit.

That would be hilarious.

But my guess is that every single feature that is not playing a game on your own console - using your account on other consoles, sharing it and etc - will be gold only.

Interested in seeing the truthfact about Mirror's Edge 2.

Probably that it's multiplatform, but MS will have paid of any mention of a PS4/PC version, and they will use the word exclusive in it's reveal, where exclusive actually means exclusive functionality with Kinect.

Bruce, don't be an asshole and leave us hanging like that. You're treading dangerous territory now!

For starters, "much worse" things are to be expected of the Xbone or is the PS4 also involved? Start with that, and cross check your info and report back ASAP.

Gawddamn

I'm starting to think it could get worse by...

REQUIRING Gold to access the cloud. So if you buy a cloud 'enabled' SP game you NEED Gold to play it.

As well? Gold now costs 12.99-15.99 a month because people are willing to pay that for games like World of Warcraft, why not to access the infinite power of the cloud?

Thanks to Seaboat for the info

What exactly is the point of keeping publishers from showing their games on the PS4 though? The enthusiast gamer that follows E3 already knows these games are coming, they aren't easily fooled.

The mass market consumer out there does not even follow E3 and does not give a shit, so what is the point? Come November when these games are out, they will go to the store and see FIFA 14 on PS4, PS3, 360, Xbone etc anyway.

I think it's perception management. The clue is in the "Input One" banner.. Microsoft's E3 push isn't aimed at us, it's aimed at the mass media that pays attention to the industry only at E3 time. MSNBC, Fox, the various newspapers and talk shows that wouldn't know their CBoat from a hole in the ground. Their shallow coverage will tell joe public that MS has all these games on display and Sony didn't have that many.. so MS wins based on a false perception.

I'm thinking it'll be something like this. Gold members can play offline for 24 hours and give games without a fee (once), everyone else has to be online all the time / online when they start any game and there's some fee for used games. There's something in the implementation, like how often and when it pings the servers, they've purposely left out.

You can't do this to us.
SPECIFY.

What are you talking about? Limited to MS and xbox one? Or is Sony involved or even something worse we can't even imagine right now?

Crazy buttocks on a train.

I've only heard this from one person but think about if MS merged the concept of PS+ with XBLG and applied it to your games

It's terrifying naivety though. These games WILL come out for PS4/PC and be advertised for all platforms they are available on. Consumers WILL find out about this DRM bullshit and almost inevitably tell MS to shove it.

How does winning E3 2013 pressers help then?

So your gold runs out, and any game tied to your account stops working.

Fuck me...

what I'm thinking is that they pushing this 'cloud' thing as part of the system and how games are going to use it in someway, and servers aren't free you know... that's one way to 'justify' asking for gold to play games at all...

would not surprise me if it's true, with all the cloud cloud

Agree it can absolutely be much worse, we have not heard much about how Gold is going to work now, there could be all sorts of restrictions on people who are only on Silver.

As well as simply raising the price of Gold, MS is paying 400 million dollars for that NFL deal, including tons of new servers, the Halo TV show, plus all this exclusive DLC, they need to recoup that money somehow, they arent in this to bleed money.

Woah, so stop paying for XBLG... lose access to games.

Since it can't be get free games. Microsoft would never do that.

EDIT: And I thought I was pissed off when Halo 4 didn't let me play Spartan Ops offline for not having Gold hahahaha.

All games subscription based, with no option to purchase a game "permanently"?

24 hour DRM checks ensure you never own your X1 games permanently either. As soon as the servers are down you lose all your games. You already don't own your games permanently on X1, they last as long as MS runs the servers.
