I wonder if this would be for just a dirt cheap, subsidised version of the console, or for all Xbones?

I don't know how they could differentiate between the two?
When you're dialing home all the time it should be obvious it'd be flagged as one or the other.

That this phrase could even exist is fucking insane. Microsoft has well and truly lost it if any of this is true.

Nah brah!

You'll be back to tap that ass, and ya know it! *waves finger*

We'll just make sure to lure you in with exclusive bribes such as Mirrors Edge 2, Dead Rising 3, Halo 5, Forza 5, Killer Instinct, Banjo-Kazooie, world of Tanks, exclusive DLC for Call of Duty and Prince of Persia.

Now pay up sucker! We got you by the balls.

Oh, and don't forget you don't have full ownership on any of these games.

ANY

I've only heard this from one person but think about if MS merged the concept of PS+ with XBLG and applied it to your games

If true are MS activly trying to make their console as horrible as possible? I mean, it'll still sell. Even after this shit I've got at least 3 friends planning on buying it (not sure if at launch but at some point) and one of them has shit internet connection (2mbp/s at best, spotty connection).
Are they doing this so that their next console can be even more draconian and people won't mind as much because it wouldn't be as big a leap from Xbone to NextBone than 360 to Xbone?

All I can hope is Sony and Nintendo don't go this route. Sony is still up in the air but I have faith due to all the backlash (I think they may have wanted it or thought about it but won't due to this) and Nintendo will be generations behind and they suck with online so I can't see them doing this kind of thing for a while, even if it catches on.

Quick Someone slap a Blockbuster Video logo on the XBone. You're bascially renting your games it seems.

Cautiously waiting for confirmation on this one. It sounds way too much, even for MS.

If it ends up being true, then wow, that's some terrible policy they're about to enforce.

If all this turns out to be true, this is the worst example of third console curse we've seen so far. I find it hard to believe Microsoft really thinks it can get away with those practices hoping the average consumer will not notice what is going on.

By this point, again, if this turns out to e true there is little to nothing Microsoft can show that would make me buy a XBone. Sad times, sad times...

System is off set with cheaper prices and anytime you re-sub you get your library back plus DLC incentives to bring you back.

I HAVE TO REITERATE I ONLY HAVE THIS FROM ONE PERSON.

Wait, how cheap are we talking for the console? If they go super cheap, people can bitch all they want, it will sell.

I've only heard this from one person but think about if MS merged the concept of PS+ with XBLG and applied it to your games

I can sort of understand all the previous stuff but this would just take it too far. No fucking way can this be real. It doesn't even make sense.

so wait this is like seperate from buying retail copy, right?

you buy digitally cheaper than retail price, but you need XBL gold account to play it and once your gold runs out, you can't play the game?

am I understanding this correct?

When you're dialing home all the time it should be obvious it'd be flagged as one or the other.

But would that be then tied to an account or the box itself? What if I have a silver account and a full price Xbone, and my friend has a subsidised model. Am I locked out if I try to play a game using my profile on that console?

I'm fucking speechless.

The Xbox One will be extremely heavily marketed and become the flagship of next-gen in mass media. All these batshit insane DRM measures will make it extremely unattractive and people might lose interest in next-gen machines altogether, even if Sony and Nintendo do no wrong.

It's like MS is seriously trying to force an industry crash.

CBoaT mentioned "tos" in the DRM post, right? What happens if you get banned from XBL? You lose all your games? That would certainly be worse.
I never really thought about that with the Xbox One. But this is the downside with digital distribution, if you get banned for whatever reason, you lose all your games connected to that account (unless the games allow a 100% offline mode after they are downloaded though).

I've been bitching at the Xbone since its reveal, but I draw the believability line at mandatory Live Gold. Microsoft wouldn't be that dumb to require a Gold sub to play any game, right?

Right?

Your Halo 7 subscription has expired, please enter payment details. 1 month, 3 months, 6 months payment. Get a free Mountain Dew themed plasma rifle when you resubscribe!

Just like an MMO - pay $59.99 for the box, then $15 a month afterward. MS going off the deep end.

Quick Someone slap a Blockbuster Video logo on the XBone. You're bascially renting your games it seems.

Under the system as we know it you kind of already are...but with a one time payment for temporary permission to play that's refreshed over time.

If you have to continuously pay on top of that to keep the refreshed permission coming, that would be just entirely insane.

The other side of this rumour is that the games would be cheaper...but they'd have to practically cost nothing. Then you're in a PS+ style situation, and PS+ is great...but as a complement! Not as a wholesale replacement...

Steam has it set up so you're banned from the store/community, but can redownload and play all your games. Something like that might appear on the Xbone.

Now I'm getting worried that it will be dirt cheap with tons of hidden costs, plus the DRM bullshit etc, which your average customer won't know about and only see the low price point and buy it anyway...

Probably the most accurate prediction I've seen.

Hopefully Sony will not disapoint . Looking forward to Nintendos conference, which I hope will be filled with games.

If this turns out to be true...
How and when would we know, they'll certainly not talk about this at e3, that's for sure.

Will we have to wait untill release before we can prove/disprove this rumour?

Right?

Before Xbox Live people would have said Microsoft would never be so dumb as to charge to play online.

Look how that ended up.

LTTP. Thanks CBOAT! <3

So MS is worse than EA and Ubisoft on DRM. Only when you thought the xbone couldn't get any wors....OH WAIT >>>>

I've only heard this from one person but think about if MS merged the concept of PS+ with XBLG and applied it to your games.

CBoaT mentioned "tos" in the DRM post, right? What happens if you get banned from XBL? You lose all your games? That would certainly be worse.

It is possible. If I remember right, other services(perhaps steam? I remember someone complaining about this) lock you out from accessing the games ever again once you're banned.

They do a hardware ban on the 360, so your 360 only plays discs. But...the Xbone? Well, it turns into Xboned.

Jesus F Christ. They are going to deceive the public like that? Lure them with cheap prices then smack them with chains and binding contracts and expensive subscription to retain their right to play? Just when I thought there's limit to MS' depravity.....

This can't be true. That would be lunacy.

At this point, it doesn't matter to people who will still buy the console after learning about Microsoft practices. It's the die-hard core fans and the casual mainstream audience the Xbox One is targeted to.

Who knows, the loss of market share in enthusiastic gamers might be offset by the TV crowds and that is perhaps what Microsoft is banking on? They don't need to retain the same install base, to them and their fans, its all about profits and countering Google/Apple. They are likely to get much more $ per capita with all their schemes in place.

This is my fear as well right now. Practically give the console away and suck people in the subscription/rental plan.
