Thanks, what is at the place de la Republique?

Just fast-foods, hotels and other commercial buildings. It's also a big rallying point for meetings or protests:

Been thinking about the argument that you can't expect peaceful Muslims to protest against terrorism.

On one hand, I agree. You can't, it's not their fault.

On the other hand, it might still be in their best interest. For instance, tens of thousands of Germans have publicly protested against the anti-Islam PEGIDA marches. Which has been reported internationally alongsides the PEGIDA stuff.

Some "positive PR" really can't hurt, especially if the public image of your group can have a very real impact. I'm sure French Muslims would rather not have a Le Pen-led government...

This is difficult for muslims to do when even religious leaders in their country rally support for I.S and stuff, it's not just an issue with terrorists.

An Imam in Denmark, Oussama El-Saadi, openly supported I.S recently + a supposed suicide bomber, there have been mosques that were spreading I.S support stickers and stuff too. When you have these people that are also religious leadership it's difficult for people of the faith to stand against them as well. There are too many bad apples in various sectors to only rally against a certain part of it. It's not just the terrorists causing it. You have the terrorists, you have Imams of established mosques sprouting shit which I'm sure many normal muslims attended and perhaps now avoid because of his statements. He did retract them but that means nothing when his intention is clear.

It's just very difficult when it's an issue in too many places to face. I agree they should definitely stand together but it's such a more complex issue when standard places such as mosques show support for I.S even.

How can they just be driving around? You'd think every single cop in Paris would be out blocking roads.

You don't block roads that easily in Paris, and the city isn't too big. They probably got out of it in a couple of minutes if they were driving fast and ignoring red lights.

Didn't they say something about a rocket launcher? I presume that the regular police is evacuating people out of the path of the lunatics while the special forces prepare to strike. It's not just about killing or disabling the terrorists, but also about keeping everyone else alive.

Paris is a very old, intricate city full of narrow roads. Very easy to disappear, especially if they make it to the 'ghetto' areas. Can't easily put everything on lock down like US (and similar) grid systems.

"It's ok chief" or something along those lines.

Absolutely despicable act, he just shot him like it was nothing, it was most definetely pros.

Really hard to say this without concrete evidence. Doesn't take that much time or shooting to be accurate with a rifle, doesn't take a lot of killing to be cold and brutal.

It is a major metropolitan area with an unknown number of heavily armed assailants driving around in about the most common vehicle in that city. Getting that type of roadblock set up safely isn't something that can be done in that little time. At this point, you'd rather have them driving out of the city than keeping them armed locked into the city.

They are hidding now. With the masks, will be hard to identify. Won't catch them today if they don't make mistakes (burn the car, hide somewhere)

Hope they dig themself in and don't come out to finish their magazines

The cunts who did this are well beyond reason but we really need to address why young muslims are feeling so alienated and turn to the ideology of these monsters. 12 dead now, fucking hell. I really hope indigenous french people don't start pointing the finger and becoming suspicious of their muslim brothers and sisters. These scumbag terrorists want that division. This is the most monstrous ideology I've seen in my lifetime. Even the taliban thought these guys were too extreme( assuming connection with Isis, perhaps incorrectly. My thoughts go out to the families of those killed.

You mean AQ which wasn't really true but AQ fanboys seems to claim this even though it was fine for AQ to send two plains into the twin towers among other acts where civilians were killed.

Same problem in Aus and I am sure many countries. The Imams can basically practise their hate filled sermons and they are untouchable. We have had incidents of Muslims waving IS banners and shit and posting it social media.

I can't remember any previous attacks where the attackers got away, and with the masks it's gonna be really difficult to ID them no?

Seemed to be really well informed, knew to go to the second floor, asked for people by name.

That could turn really ugly, when they find out that a sympathizer intern or someone on the inside clued them in. That would be like putting oil in the fire for the "yeah only 0.0001 percent of muslims would do this, but at least 25% are silent sympathizers" crowd.

With the amount of religious diversity in the EU somehow it's always the same suspects in these kind of events.

Cabu, Charb, Tignous and Wolinski are dead according to Le Figaro. I've been stunned incapable of doing anything these past two hours.

Muslims in Europe are going to become a bigger and bigger problem as their population grows. The contrast between muslims and other people living in Europe is simply just too large.

I'm OK with multiculturalism, but that doesn't mean I'd have to like every culture and the muslim culture is one I definitely do not like. It's a culture that's severely off-balanced. It's too masculine and far too outdated. It's in dire need for a reform or, preferably, dissolving altogether. There's no place for it in a modern, civilized society.

News channels are showing the car that was abandonned by the attackers. From Colonel Fabien to Porte de Pantin takes only 10 minutes, probably less with reckless driving. Also It seemed they hit a pedestrian on the street while escaping.

I doubt it's anything so dramatic as this. Finding out the internal workings of some companies management is usually just a matter of talking to or listening to the right people for long enough.

Baruch dayan haemet.

The enemy to democracy, freedom, values and morals is radical Islam. Until we wake up and recognise this, horrific events like these will keep occuring.

Stay safe, ParisGAF.

Sky showed the execution video, they blurred out the victim and stopped it just at the final shot though. The calmness afterwards is scary.

I virtually kill all the time in video games or watch it in movies but seeing it for real on LiveLeak always revolts me and disgusts me. Especially seeing the poor guy putting his hands up in surrender yet 1 press and he's erased in an instant. I hate guns.

Calm down now "muslim culture" is just as broad as any other culture and includes tens (hundreds?) of millions of moderate, intellectual people who are just as shocked and appalled by these attacks as you are.

The archaic islam of extremism is what we need to target, not "muslim culture".

Sky News just aired a lightly censored version of that video.

Gross. Can't believe they aired it.

CNN did as well. They cut out the killshot, but showed both the lead up and the cop lying dead afterwards. Really can't believe they aired it either.

Last guy, Merah, was ID and pinned with his log in on ebay, looking at his first victim's item.

Here... We have no info yet. Hope they don't strike again.

I'm not going anywhere public for this week in paris

The Inside Track
My office is right next to the prefecture de police in Nanterre (just a few km from Paris), cars going in and out with the lights and sirens all the time since the attack. Paris is going to be in lockdown for sure.
Shit shit shit, Wolinski too. :(
It doesn't look like they shot random people, they were really aiming at the cartoon drawers.
I think they "just" shot anyone there, the cartoonists are just the names that people know that's all.
