Terrorist attack in London [up: 6 people killed, ~50 injured, 3 attackers dead]

Goddammit this is awful. Thoughts to fellow Londoners from Paris.

I'm coming to London next month. Yeah, fuck you, I'm still going.

Eyewitness reports one of the attackers has canisters or something strapped along his waist - BBC

Worth stating that the reporter went at length to say that alarm and distress can hinder a bystanders' recollection. Until more is reported, primarily from the police, I'd focus less on that.

For you.
It's not even worth asking that question. Nobody is going to do shit. Europeans will continue to die on our own streets and anyone who proposes a solution will be labelled a racist.

Care to share your magical non-racist solution or are you just going to be vague?

Trump's first comment on this incident was to fucking retweet The Drudge Report.

His second was to use the incident to convince people to ban Muslims from the country.

The third was what you would think would be his first comment.

Not sending out prayers to the victims but insist the Muslim ban, I mean travel ban needs to happen? Disgusting.

better chances than being in the imminent danger getting stabbed, I'd think. It's night and the water is cold but a 9m drop into a river isn't crazy
Yeah, in a panic with nowhere to go, jumping to get away from an attacker doesn't sound that crazy to me also. Hope the person survived it.

Authorities are too afraid to close down mosques were extremist views and hatred is being preached, and stop the money flow from the Middle-east that funds it. This is something that has been repeated over here at least for years by multiple organisations, and even by Muslims themselves. Don't know if the UK has the same problem, but there cracking down on those things would be a good idea.

I'd bet the likelihood of your life being saved my paramedics after a stabbing is higher than not drowning/freezing to death, personally. Especially at night.

You can prepare by going after the terrorists, going after the cells, going after the radical clerics, going after those who are traveling back and forth between Britain and terrorist HQ in the middle east. Longer and harsher sentences, deportations, revoking of citizenship, enhanced surveillance.

pretty sure everything you listed it's currently already been done.

With "solution" you mean a temporary stop gap that isn't even guaranteed to do anything positive?

How can Europe and the U.K. Address the problem of terrorism without infringing on the rights of muslims to practice their religion?

We can't. It's gonna keep happening, and we have to live with it (or be killed by it). There's no fixing this. Some people just want to see us die.

Watching Sky News Live it looked like the cameraman was right next to a real danger zone around 30 mins ago now, with the police going crazy telling everyone to run and then seeing somebody getting arrested by Tactical Aid. Crazy.

This news is so saddening. I'm a bit overwhelmed reading the BBC live feed of this incident at the moment. Used to work/live right by London Bridge.

I cannot believe what is going on around Europe at the moment, it's so upsetting.

Trousers cause more deaths in Europe than terrorists. This is horrible, but we shouldn't do things that destroy our why of life by giving into fear to a weak and pathetic enemy. It's what they want, and falling right into their trap.

Eye witness says in the video here the gunshots were from police. Unclear exactly if they hit the attackers or what was going on.

By getting the extremists? Close extremist mosques, listen to the warning signals from the community - Manchester attacker was reported multiple times by people he knew! - and remove these people from society asap. Little to do with someones ability to pray in their own home or place of worship really.

How common are extremist mosques that we have to list it as a strategy?

Fairly certain that depends entirely on the 'solution' they propose. Because I've yet to be called racist for saying 'stabilize the middle east'.

You've got more chance of hell freezing over. The middle east hasn't been stable in decades. We're at a stage where fanciful, idealistic solutions aren't going to do shit because they're not possible to implement.

Terrible news. A place close to my heart.

I genuinely and frightfully believe there is actually nothing we can do to stop this kind of terrorism. It's so basic and requires very little planning.

And do you believe you've got a better 'solution' worth working towards? Please share if you do.

Keep pretending that is the solution. As if the middle east has anything to do with terrorist attacks in China and India by muslims, Indonesia or the attacks in Kenya and Nigeria etc. Additionally, killers like those in thr Boston bombings were White Russian/Dagestani who had no connection to the Middle East. It is just an easy scapegoat to say they do this because of their muslim brothers and sisters in Iraq or Afghanistan or Palestine.

So many are saying better integration and assimilation. You think the Sikhs in the UK or the black/caribbean/african population in the UK doesn't face the same discrimination or integration problems. Why are they not doing the attacks?

Sky apologizes for the foul language in the video, continues showing it again. Someone didnt edit it

I'm here in London vacation. It's crazy with all the sirens.

I was originally planning on doing Tower of London and Borough Market/Maltby St tomorrow morning. I already got my tickets. Not sure what now.

Poor London.

Common enough that I read multiple times a year about it and even some mosques themselves have taken steps to remove clerics because they started preaching hatred. So we should support that and get rid of the ones spreading hatred.

Of course, next to that a ton of stuff will be underground and online. So strategies to tackle that are going to be harder, since we also want some kind of privacy still from the government.

Trump's tweet is kinda jumping the gun, when if following the established trend of this year, the perpetrator's could be UK born citizens who wouldn't even be affected under the model of his ban...

But, we do need to wait for details on the actual identities of the attackers, unlike some people.

If opponents had any sense, they would argue how stupidly ineffective and arbitrary the ban is. It was a 90-120 day moratorium that would have been passed by now while "extreme vetting" was put into place. It had 6 countries in it excluding places like Saudi Arabia.

Instead, people want to make it about principle and some "we're better than this" platitudes.

They argue that they would have never been born here had the ban been in place 30 years ago. But again, the thing he put out is temporary as hell and includes only 6 nations.

Could it have anything to do with US, UK, Russia, et al constantly invading them and overthrowing their governments over the past century? Or is this all just a weird coincidence?

Poor London.

You will be fine for the Tower of London (its the other side of the Thames, roughly half a mile east). I suspect Borough Market area will be closed for the next few days.

Do the tower of London, it'll be just as safe as it ever is, wouldn't be surprised if Borough market is closed though

If those places are open tomorrow, you should go.
The security presence will be astronomical, it will be extremely safe.

eyewitness on bbc news definitely confirming 3 people got out the van and were stabbing people. he said he sent video to them.

obv still unconfirmed but that's got to be the clearest sign yet that that's real if he sent them something. they've not played it yet though.

I suggest go. Ironically it's safer after these sorts of attacks because of the increased security.

This is why the travel ban makes no sense. They already have people well established in the countries that they want to attack, no need for anyone to travel.
