F1fan on suicide watch.

Yeah sure lol.

It's better than what everyone expected, but at this moment they are just pre-orders by people who are mostly Tesla fans.

If anyone is desperate for cash, it would be Tesla. Considering they are bleeding cash and don't have much reserves left. This tweet was more aimed towards investors, since Tesla will need additional cash injection before this car rolls to the consumers.

A great start for Tesla. Still a LONG way away from changing the world.

There's no demand, the lineups break the laws of space and time

Again it depends on how you measure demand. Even 200k of cars pre-ordered is still lower than many other car sales in the USA.

Demand for Tesla in the EU, Asia & Africa? Close to 0%

Depends which statistics you want to look at, just like I have done now.

Imagine if those fanboys were actually prospective consumers! Then this might actually be good news!

Right...

Absolutely. And I expect 90%+ to be actual orders. But after that they need to branch out to more average consumers than tend to buy gas cars.

It's too early to tell how much of normal consumers they have gained with this.

It is, but the curiosity is there - I mean the non-enthusiasts were talking about it today in my office (anecdotal), the line ups made headlines

That's great, but how late into 2018 (2019?) is the 200,000th person to make a reservation going to have to wait to get their car? I have to imagine a lot of people will give up and get a Chevy Bolt or something.

Yeah the marketing and hype behind Tesla is immense. They for sure will grab a lot of people attentions. But for the people standing in lines yesterday? I would bet a very high percentage were actual Tesla fans.

Only with time we will tell how many normal car consumers jump ship to Tesla. But it is a very promising start that's for sure. Much better than anyone expected really, including me.

Depends how fast they can get car production up and running and how many problems they encounter. Should be able to deliver all cars pre-ordered within a year I would think.
