A mudslide of fun!
Anybody else from the bay area here? Teslas are as common as bmws now. You see them all the time in the carpool lane with only one driver.

I'll pass.

You'll pass because something is popular?

Are you even old enough to drive?

They are allowed to be in the carpool lane with only one person.

I can understand his point, if he wants to spend that kind of money on a car he might want something that stands out a bit more. Of course around here in OC, you see Tesla S just as often as BMWs and Audis.

Getting an EV exception to the carpool would be nice, but I'm not sure I'd want a 3 unless they have a performance option that gets it closer to the P90D. I basically want the 3 to be a success so they can make a new version of the Roadster, then I can replace my Sky one day before our self-driving overlords take over.

a 35k (more like 30k after incentives) all electric car with 300 mile range, instant torque, remote control, and self driving... as long as it looks better than the nissan leaf, it will sell hotcakes

its not trying to replace your sky.. its replacing all the loaded accords/camrys and the entry level 3 series and A4's

I kind of agree with him, though. You can see absolutely shit loads of BMWs and Audis where I live. I recently saw six BMWs in a row. That view alone could make me spend my money somewhere else, to something more unique. Strangely enough, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz are something I don't see even nearly as often.

Im willing to bet that their boring car will sell much better than any design you can come up with... and in the end thats what matters, sales

Well duh! Sorry for having an opinion...
But for some people looks do matters...

I would highly consider one if the look was a lil better...

Looks matter to everyone but the percentage of people (such as yourself) who value it over the other things (reliability, value, performance, convenience) is not high for a mass market mainstream car... business101

I also am in the same boat. I wanted something quality but unique that still suited my personality.

I ended up getting the BMW i3 (not my pic, though, but mine looks identical):

I will be looking for a new car right around when the Model 3 is supposedly coming out, so depending on what the higher trim levels offer, I may be interested, since I really am sold on electric cars after owning one. However, I really love hatchbacks, so I may wait to see if they end up making a compact hatchback/crossover.

What a special snowflake you are!

I hope the reveal looks nice. I have to get my wife a car in a year and this would be a great one to get if it's styled well.

Leaked Specs

One of the standout specs Tesla will tout is that it will be able to travel from 0-60 in under 4 seconds. We weren’t told if this is for the base model or a more premium edition with bigger battery and AWD.

Speaking of higher end, the price tag on the high end version of the Model 3 grows significantly to almost base Model S territory with estimates in the $50-$60K range. What do you get for that money? Besides autonomous driving on the level of the Model S and X, Tesla will also offer the aforementioned AWD option. In addition, a battery pack that we’re estimating in the ~80kWh range will take the Model 3 to over 300 miles in range. That’s at highway speeds and not hyper-miling at 30mph which means you can travel almost 5 hours between charging and almost complete the 364 miles between the Tesla design studio in Hawthorne and its HQ in Palo Alto.

As a comparison, Tesla’s current mileage champ, the Model S 90D can go 288 EPA certified miles on a charge.

I will be in line at 6am tomorrow to preorder.

I'm really looking forward to this reveal. As others have noted, I hope it's a looker, though Elon and his team have a very fine track record in that regard already so I'm not too worried.

We're upgrading our car this yearish, and I'm shopping between polar opposites:

Model 3 or a 6.2l v8 sports wagon, lol. Just hoping the Apple tax isn't too heavily applied to our price on the Model 3.

/edit: just saw that leaked specs link... Impressed whistle noise.

I'm looking to pre-order one tomorrow but the Tesla store in Seattle is right next to Amazon HQ. I imagine there will be some stiff competition.

I really hope they just go the Audi route and make it a slightly smaller version of the Model S with a few changes to distinguish itself.

I just can't help but worry that I will get my hopes up once again for an aesthetically pleasing, good price point, hybrid or electric car, and be disappointed by some ugly monstrosity.

Dont dissapoint me Elon!

Getting in line myself tomorrow. Been waiting a long time for this (and still have a long time left to wait).

Anything past the base model will be unrealistic for me. I hope the range on the lower end is still impressive.
Ditto. Unfortunately, I think I need the winter weather package at least, which also means AWD would be great, but that may end up being too pricey.

You aren't unique.

You are just a dude with enough money to afford a luxury car.

I will be in line at 6am tomorrow to preorder.

As long as the base model can get ~200 miles on a charge, I'll be pre-ordering one ASAP. I probably can't make it to the local Tesla shop tomorrow so I'll have to wait until online pre-orders start. I wonder if their website will stand up to the potential load...

Just a heads up for those interested in the mountain view/sunnyvale/palo alto (stanford shopping) dealerships they are discouraging overnight lineups. And in the case of palo alto they will not be allowing lines up before a certain time which is being decided by the property and not them.

I'm ready, but I don't think this car will meet my expectations of distance and looks.

How are you finding the i3? and what's making you switch? I'm torn between the i3 and the model 3.

What? It's popular so that must mean I shouldn't get it! Do you live in a town where you've never seen BMWs before?

It is weird that reservations go live before the reveal. I assume you can get your deposit back easily if what they show sucks?

Damn pre-order culture.

I think they're doing that tomorrow.

I thought the stores were taking preorders tomorrow when they open and the online will go live at the time of the reveal which I understand to be 830PM PST.

Just going off their Aussie FB post. Our reservations and showrooms open up today, being the 31st. Though the actual Model unveil isn't occurring today, as I understand it.

Else it'd be an unfortunate April Fools' launch for us, if aligned with US.

Yep, preorders are up and running for current Tesla owners, doors are open. Now just waiting to see the damn thing, hurry up US.
