The quote "Quicker than a Porsche 911 and roomier than an Audi Q7" has been floating around. Sounds like hype, but we shall see...

Looking forward to it. I'm in love with the Model S, can't afford it though. I hope things work out for them.

I was rather snarky about the Model S ever hitting the road and Tesla ever surviving for another few years. Now I want to believe. I want a Model S Performance with everything but the in-law seats and 21 inch wheels.

It is a cross over.

I'm completely confused by it being a cross over personally. I know that there is this trend now to try and turn everything into a station wagon... er cross over but given that the Model S is heavily loaded with extra space already I'm having a hard time understanding this one.

Quicker than a Porsche...except if you drive it like one you'll probably get 5 minutes before the juice runs out.

LOS ANGELES (CNNMoney) -- Tesla Motors on Thursday unveiled a new SUV that the automaker plans to put into production by 2014.

The plug-in electric crossover is based on the same engineering as the Model S sedan, a car that's expected to go into full production this summer, but the Model X rides higher and has front-facing third row seats.

The most eye-catching feature, however is the "falcon wing" back door design. The doors open upwards and bend in the middle so they'll be able to function when parked in a tight space.

The doors also allow an adult to easily access the rear seats while standing up, making it easier to strap small children into booster seats, the company said. Tesla claims it is the largest door opening of any passenger vehicle.

The Model X is expected to be priced at around $60,000 to $80,000, about the same as the Model S.

I'm trying really hard to decide whether I hate it or like it and I can't make up my mind. Considering that they're targeting families, this thing better have pretty amazing range.

I mean, you don't buy a 7 seater car just for taking your kid's friends to the movie theaters.

not a fan of the straight ahead shot.

not at all.

also, I wish the center console looked more like their prototype cars, which flowed from the dash to the elbow rest.

Absolutely hideous. Hate the way crossovers look in general though.

"Falcon Wing" doors, lol get the fuck out of here.
