Ciri looks beautiful. Instead of being a character who reacts indifferently to everything, like Geralt, she seems more driven by her emotions; maybe I'll like her even more than Geralt. However, I remember feeling bored during her gameplay sections in The Witcher 3. I hope this time the gameplay will be better.

I always thought gaming characters would begin to look more and more "ugly" as we move more towards more realistic graphics.

Realism is just not as pretty as art.
Dude literally look at your avatar, if devs want, they can make beatiful realistic characters :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

The face scan tech was already capable of doing 1:1 face capture on a fucking ps3 with beyond 2 souls.

Devs purposely uglify character nowadays, it has nothing to do with being too realistic.

Look what infinitely smaller devs compared to cdpr can do right now with 1\100 of the budget and manpower.

What is game in 1st gif? I remember those scene.

P.S People complain about CIRI, it's different engine/textues/etc between Witcher 3 and 4, can't compare directly.

No idea, the only thing i know is that it's a small never heard dev ( or at least i never heard of them).

This is not expedition 33.

I think i finally figured out what character/actress they downgraded Ciri's face to, its Lagertha from the Vikings tv series

It might be that they're making her look closer to the Voice/motion actress Ciara Berkeley
(I'm assuming they're using the same tech used in Hellblade 2 for facial animations):

Maybe, lets wait for actual gameplay in a year or two to check on the downgrades, then we will probably get real Ciri model :D

No one is upset that Ciri is the protagonist though. It's the retconned lore. So I guess everyone dismissing everyone with the receipts didn't play Witcher 3 either.

No one was upset with retconning lore to bring Geralt back from the dead to make the games. Funny how that works.

Gifting a sword is not the same as undergoing an operation subjecting your body to alchemical liguids being injected into your body that kills 70% of men and 100% of women. Nor would Geralt or Yennefer ever allow it.

And you know why Geralt survived death. He was spirited away to Avalon.

He was dead, Avalon is basically heaven the way it was described in the books. Dead. CDPR brought him back to life to make games.
He was integrated as part of the Wild Hunt and was taken from Avalon and he was able to break free come Witcher 1. However this was done in a way through a miracle feat. Which is fine. The process for creating Witchers however has very clear rules. This compare and contrast between Geralt and Yennefer's second chance at life is entirely separate from completing the ToG ritual as an adult. But hey we will see when W4 releases.

The trailer looks fantastic but it's basically a cutscene pre-rendered (so it might not even run at full frame rate in real time) on a Geforce 5080/5090.
Similarly to the first Witcher 3 trailer the actual game won't look like that.
I don't care that Ciri is the protagonist and how she looks.

I finished both and still think game will lose on it as simply Ciri is boring comparing to Geralt

Possibly. I'm very much in the "if you didn't think Ciri was the most likely next Witcher replacement after Geralt, you haven't paid attention at all to the story" camp. That said, Geralt is a much better character IMO. As a father myself, who often steers the line between sarcasm and serious, I just connect with the character more. He's got more charisma. Maybe Ciri will be a better character post-trial of grasses. Maybe the suffering involved in that and the road of a witcher life has hardened her a bit and changed her. I hope so.

Guess I need to play Witcher 3 again. I do not remember them saying Ciri would be a witcher. She obviously trained with them and idolized them. But I thought they all wanted something better for her.

spot on.

it's been obvious that the next game was gonna be Ciri. people acting surprised, looking for a reason to be upset, and admitting they have never played 3, or even read the books. Ciri is basically the main character alongside Geralt. It was never gonna be anyone else.
Pearce is actually being a moron there, pretending like Witcher 3 didn't have whole other ending that this direction negates. Which sucks since the empress ending was way more elaborate, ambitious, interesting and bittersweet.

Prior to the games, in the books it was a bit mixed. She wanted to do it, but there was pushback. Largely due to risk and infertility (trial of grasses). Geralt was fine with the idea of her monster hunting to some extent, but not the trial of grasses. So I'm sure if Geralt is in the game to any extent, he's not going to be happy about it. Ciri has a history of being stubborn, though. The devs also confirmed the medallion is the school of the lynx. So likely she went rogue without Geralts consent.

I always thought she would be the main character in their next game. The issue is that they have made her look like Azog the Defiler from the Hobbit. I will accept making female characters being ugly when they make male leads in all these films like Twilight look like Rocky Dennis. I will call it quits then.

That's debatable.

While I don't mind playing an older Ciri, it would have been more interesting to take the Witcher Golden Age setting, where you could have chosen your own Witcher and school (Wolf, Bear, Griffin, etc).

Not necessarily a generic character, but a character written with a different prologue depending on the school chosen (a bit like Dragon Age 1, for example, only better).

I would not be surprised if they made Garalt a "bad guy" in this game. Someone holding Ciri back from her "full potential". That is what I hate about this. We know this game is years and years away, but I am wasting time wondering what it will be like. By time it comes out, I will be mentally exhausted.

Depends. Geralt would be against Ciri undergoing the ritual. So I imagine he isn't going to be happy about that. With where this might be heading I'd expect a Geralt of Rivia boss fight in some form.

He literally gifted her a silver sword at the end of TW3. I doubt he’ll try to hold her back. That’s like gifting someone a hunting rifle, and then shame them for going hunting.

So I have question:

GepCk9uXcAAv6Xv

This is how a woman looks.

GepCj-nWUAEhX5d

This is the other woman. She looks like a man.

Now, the first woman is a dumb maiden that needs rescuing, the second one is like Mario going after Peach. I think it's pretty obvious at this point what I mean and yet I need to ask: are these people aware that they are reinforcing the very same gender stereotypes they seem to hate? Having a chick doing the "save the princess" scenario isn't a subversion if she JUST LOOKS LIKE A FUCKING MAN ANYWAY.

I mean it's a middle ages setting and she spends her days battling monsters. You are concerned she's not keeping up with her skincare routine and she's behind on a few spa days? Get a grip folks. It ain't that serious.

Ciri waifu ❤️ FTW 🙌!!!!
Happy to hear she is the main protagonist this time. She deserves it. 😎 👍🏻

Edit: I hope Ciri gets a trilogy like Geralt did. 😏

Yep. You even play as Ciri at points in the third game.

People are really showing their ass on this, screaming how it shouldn't be Ciri as the main character. At least play the fucking games you're complaining about, people.

I could get behind an older Ciri (and not just figuratively ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)).

But it all rides on what kind of writers are in charge at CDPR nowadays, and sadly things aren't looking too reassuring (people paying attention know that CDPR lost important key leads).
In this cinematic, she only addresses the evil cult-man with angry loud shouts. She only has to shout an emotional "NO" to impress and shut off the antagonists, I found that kind of ridiculous and dumb, something which definitely wouldn't happen in such a manner in previous CDPR games.

I'm not gonna throw them under the bus yet. But several worrying signs are there.

I personally don't care if Ciri is the protag, but there is a portion of people who play The Witcher to roleplay as a cool dude who bangs hot chicks.

They might be 'losers', but losers buy video games, so the devs should hope there are enough new fans to cover for their loss.

I think it will be fine, but devil's advocate and all that.

She can "extend" my warranty anytime, while I play the Witcher 4, too. No doubt!
Witcher 4 is one of the exceptions where "girl boss" shouldn't make a difference.

If you read the books, or played the trilogy and it's DLC through, then? This is a no brainer! How they go about it, though? That's another story, entirely.
zkorejo zkorejo I think I am basically agreeing with you, in my own words. I've had a half pint of tullamore dew. Gonna relax with some DQ/W7 and chill out. :messenger_sunglasses:
