I'm pretty anti-woke, but I think the constant 24/7 culture warring has inflicted brain rot in some folk, and they're seeing ghosts everywhere now. I've seen a number of people say Ciri has a fat face and a square jaw in the trailer.

Futhermore I'm getting no girl boss vibes either. One difference between Geralt and Ciri is Geralt has lived a lot longer and understands and is used to how shitty humans are. Ciri hasn't been witching nearly as long, and likely hasn't had her spirit broken. Her getting pissed off at the people in this trailer makes sense and is totally in character for her.

There is no "technically can't". There were two known experiments with female witchers, where they all died, but the lore never states they "can't". Ciri was being fed mushrooms and whatever else that may help with this (Triss was pissed about this in Blood of Elves), child of destiny and the elder blood. She was prevented from doing the trial of grasses, because of the outcome of other female witchers (and infertility), but Ciri was never some ordinary human. The 30 years of Witcher lore has established that Ciri is a very unique character with very rare traits, further improved in Blood of Elves, yet people seem to have a hard time grasping that Ciri is different than your average person.
To me, the issue isn't that she "can" undertake the trial of grasses. The issue is why would she? As seen in Witcher 3, she's abnormally powerful. In fact, OP. Why would she take the risk just to be able to drink witcher potions? She was already more powerful than a Witcher. Why risk death, losing humanity, etc. and why choose that? Nearly all witchers were forced into the trials (often orphans) and most died, while those who survived suffered intensely. It's not like it's a fun thing to do.

Maybe it's to show the viewers how long it's been? Maybe they're previous injuries or scars? It's pretty hard to tell ATM. I just know when I saw her I was like, "Oh, she's older, and been through it."

I hear Geralt will be in this game, but I almost don't want that. It would suck to just have him in a few missions. I know a lot of people are up for this, but it feels wrong to have him just be a bit player in Witcher 4.

Over 30 years of establishing Ciri is far from average with all these special qualities. She can literally transcend space and time, but people seem to have a hard time understanding the hypothetical she might survive the trial of grasses because some orphan girls died doing it.
For what it's worth, I'm glad NeoGAF is still a place you can go to see opinions from all over the place. While there are some borderline fringe hot takes here, it still makes the discussions far more natural as you have a variety of takes. Definitely prefer this compared to the other places, especially as the moderators here have been doing a good job keeping thread shitters under control.
As far as the Witcher 4 announcement goes - I think with how the games went, especially 3, they pretty much showed that Ciri would likely be the next candidate to carry the torch in the series if they were to continue. As far as we knew (aside from rumors), Witcher 3 was going to be the last game. I understand that there are a lot of fans of Geralt and they want to see his journey continue, but I believe a lot of fans also feel that Ciri would be a natural choice too. Whether they pull a Metal Gear Solid like they did with Snake/Raiden (whether you liked it or not lol), who knows. I do recall the voice actor for Geralt was doing something with a project, so I would assume we'll probably see him return in some fashion in The Witcher 4. Whether they split roles or he is just a side character/NPC I have no idea. It's way too early to tell at this point, I just hope this game isn't like 3+ years away.
Regarding her design, I'll probably need to visit The Witcher 3 again. However, I think she looks very close to her original design. While I'm sure most of us would prefer her younger design that we remember, her most recent design in the trailer looks fine to me. Slight deviations/variations were apparent for sure, but I'm thinking we'll see a detailed look at what has happened to her (I hope so!) since The Witcher 3. I'm assuming she's been through a lot of shit both physically and emotionally, especially a time lapse. I assume she is probably 30+ years old at this point, if not older.
We also have to remember this was rendered in UE5 for the cinematic. These enable far more facial expressions than we'll likely get or are used to getting from Ciri, so it definitely gives her a lot more facial expressions we haven't seen. Like other users have mentioned, we'll have to see how her in-game model will look like. I'm assuming they will be different than what we see on this trailer versus what we get in the game. Might not be a huge difference, but it'll still be noticeable.
As far as why/how she is now a Witcher, we won't know anytime soon (aside from the recent interview that came out saying she went through the trials) - we'll have to wait till the game expands on the lore or they do additional minor PR/Developer Interviews. Given what we know of Ciri and how powerful she was, I wouldn't doubt it allowed her body to live through the trials. Unfortunately, I do see her power getting nerfed or restricted once the game comes out. Would be cool to do some crazy stuff with her, but I'm figuring she'll be restricted in some way and I'm sure her lore/story will likely center around it.

Oh, so it's a fantasy game. So in a fantasy game, a woman in her 40s has to look haggard because of the "harshness of years of being a Witcher" She can't look like she's young and beautiful (even though all the sorceresses in this very setting use magic to make themselves look young and beautiful) because of "realism". But I thought this was a fantasy game where the writers can make whatever work. So then they chose to make her look the way she does.

Ah, but I liked Ciri in TW3 because her role was basically secondary in the narrative. Here, it's different from Geralt. He was calmer and more level-headed, and when faced with threats, he kept his distance and inner strength. Ciri is the opposite. If she screams at every contract, it's going to be a bit redundant.
I'm waiting to see the dialogue dynamics with her.

Yes this is the issue. We will need to see some context on why Ciri took the Trial of Grasses. Could be she just wanted to avoid another Wild Hunt situation or maybe Geralt told her about what happened to another person that also was a "Source" who Geralt killed and used Witcher mutations to dilute her Elder Blood and essentially remove her source(heh) of Source magic.
Though that's a kick in the face for all the time spent with Yennefer to control her magic. On top of this both Geralt and especially Vesemir were against the ToG being used on Ciri whatsoever. Martial training, procuring and using Weapon Oils, and extensive knowledge on fighting and dealing with a variety of monsters was as far as they would go.
The issue isn't that Ciri is female but that it shouldn't work...but it did. And seemingly as a result it's altered her magic abilities, her voice and even her physical features(hence manface Ciri).
This whole drama club session where people hate female leads is objectively false when femme fatales like Bloodrayne, Bayonetta, Samus Aran, Ayane, Isabella Valentine, Lara Croft, KOS-MOS, Eve, Yorha 2B, Jill Valentine all exist. Just to name a few.
I think for Witcher purists they need to explicitly show the ToG transformation ingame and how Ciri became changed and more monstrous then she was before.
And given she is 21 in W3 I don't think much time has passed in starting her Witcher Journey with Geralt post W3.
I'm just curious how this will pan out and how it will be written. Though with the clear disregard of lore as it stands it is indeed an early red flag. We shall see.

You're digging too far, so far it was just a CG video, which does not reflect the state of the game, neither from a visual nor a technical point of view. Therefore, it is easier to wait for the first trailers on the game engine, to understand what's what. Although the fact that the game is on Unreal 5 does not inspire optimism. So far, the only thing that is clear is that they decided to completely spit on the lore and books and go into complete improvisation. For some, this will be a plus, for someone, a minus, this is an extremely bold plan, let's see where it leads them. When Netflix did something similar, everything ended badly.

I would point out she is never seen using her powers again after the end in the Witcher 3 (it wasn't some teleport when she got back or to Geralt's place in BW) so hypothetically; fulfilling or breaking the prophecy can possibly negate her powers altogether, it was technically a curse after all…Similar to Duny.
