Exciting to see Justine Henin in action again!

Edit: And also Sharapova! I guess I missed the news that she was going to play again...

Every freaking year there's a bunch of high profile pull-outs or a disappointing list of seeds out in the first round.

Who is it/will it be this year? :/

I'll be rooting for Federer and Sharapova. They're so pretty. I mean, Sharapova is.

Is Dementieva still playing btw? I always had a thing for her.

Hopefully Federer =p People need to stop choking against this man.

Anyway, he's how I think the favorites go:

1. Federer (because he's Federer)
2. Del Potro
3. Djokovic
4. Nadal
5. Murray

(with Davydenko, Tsonga, Soderling and.......GULBIS, I mean Roddick floating around)

Lleyton Hewitt is a fucking twat.
Everything's always Lleyton's fault...

PS. Bernard Tomic bowed out in first round of Brisbane International to Ukrainian qualifier Oleksandr Dolgopolov Jr.

Even if Lleyton Hewitt himself is behind all the conspiracies to upend the career of his 16-year-old compatriot, Tomic's performances are kind of vindicating him.

you people are missing the real action: fan violence.

or basically Serbian fans v Croatian fans.

My money is on the Serbians.

Always the tag bridesmaid, never the tag bride.
I'm curious as to how well Nadal will do in this tournament. I'll root for Federer, but I get the feeling he's going to lose.

I don't understand how Murray is up there. Played some rather disappointing matches as of late. I like Djokovic alot but he is hit or miss in some of his matches.

Roddick's resurgence has come at the right time. I built momentum in 09 and I think 10 is the year I gets a major. He took Fed to 5 sets and a heartbreakingly close tiebreak...he can do it again and win I think.

James Black just ousted a fellow American. (Brisbane International)

And Blake did too!

What a coincidence!

Not that excited about Henin coming back, she played wonderful tennis but I always "hated" everything else about here. She never seemed to have any fun playing, hate players like that.

I'm eager to see which dog makes the final this year(If Gulbis finally gets his shit together he could get to the semis), and of course hope that both Williams sister lose in the early stages(At least Serena, Venus is not so bad..)

Personal favorites beside Fed are Hewitt, Melzer, Koellerer, Monfils.

In womens tennis, Carla Suarez-Navarro(she reminds me of Arantxa Sanchez), Kirilenko, Sharapova, Bondarenko and Kim.

And any other cute girl..

EDIT: Forgot about Wozzy, shame on me. She got a bit chubby at the end of the year though..

Murray is like the wild card of the top seeds. I really can't find the words to describe his situation. I'll just say that he doesn't win the right matches. =p

And I agree about Djokovic. I think his main problem is his conditioning. If the point goes over 25+ shots, 1) watch out for an inevitable drop shot and 2) make him run corner to corner because he's going to run out of gas. That's what Nadal did to him in Madrid.

His forehand is definitely a lot better than last year though.

I hope he wins :D

My predictions:

Del Potro & Clijsters.

I can't wait to see Henin back playing. Such a spirited athlete with the most amazing backhand.

I honestly don't see how Hewitt's inexcusable arrogance and Tomic's poor on-court performance are related. Tomic could be playing like a fucking champ and Hewitt would still be demanding for him to kneel down and kiss his shoes.

Hewitt carries himself around as though the world owes him a favor, and his self-congratulatory fist-pumping antics are downright embarrassing and lacking in dignity. I don't care how highly ranked he is - if I've got a chance to practice with someone else, I'll practice with someone else.

What a fucking tournament!

So many storylines!!!

Pointless to list them all. I'm cheering for Sharapova but I have zero idea how this one will go. Zero.

That goes for both men and women, actually.

Indeed :) Such a nice guy, so soft-spoken and kindhearted, his interviews are modesty personified. The wrap he gets is absolutely ridiculous.

Hewitt's supposed arrogance (not that I've actually seen any genuine evidence for it as it seems mainly to be media spin) is directly based on Tomic's performances... that is, if you actually do take stock in what the tabloids say.

I ignore the tabloids, though.

Agreed. Totally cheering him on to get a nice easy path to at-least the semis.

COME ON AUSSIE COME ON!

I hope Roddick gets this tournament though. He needs something to make up for Wimbledon :(

Davydenko beat Nadal and Federer to take the Doha title. Although a best of 5 is a totally different thing, Davy could be one to look out for at the Aussie Open.

Seeds have been released (and OPs updated). I didn't know this until a few days ago, but Del Potro has surpassed Murray and is the new No. 4 (and thus is seeded 4th).

So Michelle Larcher De Brito lost her qualifyers match. I guess this Australian open will be quiet without her :(

At least we have Sharapova.

Donald Young is 1 qualies round away from qualifying though!

Any reason you didn't post the seeds for the women?

Five hours 'till draw! This is a party waiting to happen.

I find it interesting that the draw ceremony is being done by John McEnroe and....Ana Ivanovic.

Is Ana just going into modeling now for tennis? She sure as hell can't play well anymore

edit: btw am I the only one following the qualifiers right now? It's pretty interesting. I know we have one fan of Laura Robson on here. The 15 year old from Great Britain, but today she's facing this bombshel Michaella Krajicek. I'm going to have to root for Michaella on this one.

Are you following the results or watching it live anywhere?

I have been scoreboard watching the matches. I wish they broadcasted them. The qualifyers are where it's at. If the player doesn't win, they may not eat! It's gritty out there!

They are doing the draw right now but I can't find a stream. it's probably somewhere on twitter

Cuz the women suck.

But seriously, when I posted, women's seed list wasn't in a list form that I could find when I posted; I could only find an article that listed only the top seeds for the women. It wasn't even on the official site at that time.

But I'm about to update everything now.

I agree with this. Not only is there nothing special about any of the players but they are all very weak compared to Serena and Venus. The only time Serena loses is if she gets pissed off at the linesman or the umpire and then womens Tennis resumes being boring.

too bad that one more misconduct by Serena disqualifies her from the next US Open. She has to be on good behavior. It's time for Venus to raise hell.

Well, to be fair, I wouldn't say that they "suck" (I was kidding, of course); it's just not as fast-paced as men's tennis due to the power disparity. It's still fun to watch....albeit a little slower. :)

But seriously....I was watching some of the Australian Open classic matches on the Tennis Channel the other day and they showed Navratilova and Evert. I could NOT watch that. ALL tennis back then was slow and women's tennis was like in slow(er) motion.

ETA: The seeds have been updated. I'll update more but I gotta get something to eat!

I hope Ferrero doesn't have to pull out with that ankle injury he had in Auckland. His season almost always starts off on a bad note.

Another Grand Slam, another loss by Hewitt to Federer (this time in the 4th round) or the eventual champion, whomever he meets first. :,(

Meanwhile, could Tomic's draw been that much easier?

qualifier, Cilic(14), Wawrinka(19), defending Champion del Potro(4), Roddick(7), Nadal(2), Federer(1)?

Biggest names towards the end... if he wins his first three matches (granted, not likely), he'll be on a roll and could put up a great fight against del Potro... and then... but yeah. It's a pretty good draw for him, all things considered.
