The 24 Hours of Le Mans 2014 |OT| Audi, Porsche, Toyota. One Winner.

So how's Porsche coming along? I'm a big Porsche-phile so it's a little disheartening seeing them holding in 4th and 5th place.
They've had enough reliability issues that the only way they'll get a podium is if something happens to the remaining Audis/Toyota.

OTOH, chances of that are pretty good, since there are only 3 left.

That 20% fuel efficiency gain in one year for the Audi diesels is insane.

Yeah, just goes to show how rapidly these LMPs are advancing. Basically, as Martin on Eurosport said, energy recovery systems will be common on regular cars in ten years time thanks to these cars

I've never actually had the chance to sit down and watch an actual night session of 24 hours of Le Mans. How does the speed compare to a day sessions? This looks terrifying to me as a viewer.

I can't find the damn timing information, but Eurovision said Tom Kristensen just ran a 3:27 a few laps ago.

The top times during qualifying and practice were in the 3:21 range.

So that's, at worst, 6 seconds off hotlap pace in the pitch dark. Except I don't know that the Audis were faster than 3:23 or 3:24, so arguably it's closer than that.'

e: lol at the taped body outline for the sleeping crew member on the official Le Mans web stream

Wow. That is significantly quicker than I expected. I imagine a lot of track memorization has to come into play there.

So the Audi's only have KERS at the front axle but use a e-turbo which compensates for turbine lag?

Interesting that they did not go with the exhaust ERS or a 2nd energy recovery system when other teams picked that up pretty quickly.

Do any cars use the Exhaust ERS and an E-Turbo?

Audi actually explored running an exhaust-based ERS, but dropped it before the start of the season in favor of maximizing engine efficiency.

Porsche has ERS on both the front-axle and exhaust.

Racecar Engineering has some excellent technical analyses of the three factory LMP1s:

Audi R18

Toyota TS040

Porsche 919

Disappointed to see TK's shot at a tenth win die in the garage, although the odds were stacked against the #1 as soon as Duval had that massive off earlier this week. Oh well.

*high five*

My introduction to Le Mans.

*high five*

Still one of the best racing games around, in my opinion. I wish Forza did proper endurance and night racing. Would've been great. It actually sucks they are moving away from endurance racing because people don't like em. (Did Forza 5 have nice endurance racing?)

So the #1 Audi had a fuel injection issue. Yeah, that'd do it

Haven't played 5 (after the sour taste from 4 I'm not in any hurry), but I have high hopes for Project CARS. Got the impression they are Le Mans fanboys.

Although I haven't actually tried La Sarthe, I do enjoy the endurance ALMS mods for GTR2. Closest thing I'll get to a real Le Mans type race with classes and everything in a "modern" game I think.

I knew it didn't sound good...I love it when the Audi's are upfront. The drivers are a cool group of guys - like em a lot.

I would love to play Project CARS, but I don't have a high-end PC =/

Definitely try La Sarthe - one of the most exhilarating tracks out there. Right up there with Spa and Monza.

Ah, I meant in GTR2. I've raced La Sarthe in tons of other sims and yeah, it's a super fun track in the right car.

I normally do at least a few laps of Le Sarte in Gran Turismo either during or after the 24 hours. The day/night transition in GT6 is awesome and the track at night is terrifying.

Picked up a GT500RS wheel a few months ago so have to try it with that

Fox Sports Go app on iPad will play through the AppleTV! So I get it on the big TV and amp in the main room rather than on my iPad!!!

I think the sun is coming soon...night racing is my favorite, but excited for sun rise.

Dawn is always my favourite time of the race

Edit: did I hear earlier that Nissan will have an LMP1 car next year? Four factory teams will be amazing!
