Violence and destruction happen in every protest that's ever happened. You get a large group of angry, frustrated people together, it's going to end up with some problems.

Despite that, protests still work and are still effective.

Now we have some protest footage from near a checkpoint. A large group of protesters, many dressed all in black, some with faces covered, some carrying umbrellas, are crossing a boulevard and taking over a street, led by a large banner reading “Make Racists Afraid Again.” Police with batons and face shields have just appeared to confront them. Police on motorcycles are trying to corral them.

Like most destructive protests or riots, it's a mixture of people expressing frustration in a supremely negative way and people who just want to start shit. Can't ever tell the difference, end result is the same.

There will be more as the day goes on, but those who are destructive will be dwarfed by those peacefully protesting.

Originally presidents had protection for life. But then a law passed in the late 90s changed that for future presidents to only be a decade. I'm not sure what the point of the law was, but it was passed.

Obama repealed that law, and gave W and himself life time Secret Service coverage for life (along with Clinton, HW and Carter who already had coverage).
