Well the wind blows in almost as much as it blows out so I guess it balances out over time. But wind out is not good for power pitchers like Wood and Oswalt. Those fly balls become home runs with the wind.

Damn! I didn't get to see the 9th inning on TV! That 6 run inning would have been worth it if I would have seen that! :lol

They probably won't replay that part on ESPN....

I wanted the sweep, but we'll only get 3 out of 4 now.

I'm surprised the camera crew showed the jersey and someone come take it away.

Stone: And there's....aaaaaaaa piece of cub memorabilia on the field.

and it was only after giving up 2 of the 6 runs. I hope that started a trend...I'd love to see some Sosa jerseys flying the field soon =p

it was hilarious too, I was watching the game with two cub fans. right when beltran came up, the first thing one of them said is "watch this, beltran's gonna crush one. i can see it from here."

then right after the ball left the bat on the 3-2 HR swing, everyone is in quiet amusement and looks at him. he just nods and says "yep"

Damn friggin' Alvarez! Sheesh! I can understand how he could have screwed up a couple of days ago when he gave up 8 runs in the 2nd inning to the Braves, but 6 runs in his next start in the 1st inning to the Mets???!?!?!?! The Mets just got whipped by the the Padres. That and the Giants are playing the Braves, so this weekend should (in theory) help the Dodgers to increase or at least maintain their current slim 4 game lead in the NL West. But, hand it to Dodger pitching imploding early and making it yet another uphill climb for the offense. Maybe Green and Beltre can somehow make it close but even if they do it'll probably come down to the Mets winning in the 9th inning like that Montreal game since the bullpen/closer situation has been a bit dire of late. If the game does get close I sure hope Gagne can help out. Please hurry up and get better Nomo, Penny, and Jackson. I think it was Peter Gammons on ESPN's Baseball Tonight who said Nomo was pitching up in the 90 MPH range in the minor leagues so hopefully Nomo has his stuff back (he sure as hell didn't the last time he pitched for the Dodgers, when he pitching like in the 80 MPH range and getting hammered). Argh!!!!

At least the Cubs got man-handled today by the almighty Astros and the Padres are behind 2-0 to the Expos. Misery loves company ;-)

I agree, Loaiza has been awful. However, Contreras just couldn't bear down in NY. Though, it's not like Loaser is doing any better.

Any Yankee fans remember the good old days when the Yanks would win by more than 1 fucking run way back when 3 weeks ago.

Eminem

goddamit, Griese!
I'm willing to bet Loaiza is hoping he stays on the Yanks long enough to make the postseason/win a world series. He better get to work.

All he wants is to be traded to Texas =p

The Yankees didn't/won't lose too badly on the deal. The key was to unload Contreras, who clearly wasn't going to work in New York. If Loaiza could return to form, great. If he didn't, no big deal since he would be a free agent at season's end.

wow, Cubs murdered. Ah well, cant have things go your way every day. Oh, and the Farns performance was nothing short of embarassing. Its like a horrible comedic act except you're not allowed off the stage because there are deadly lions waiting for you to step off. Honestly, that was horrible, and looking at Mercker who was pretty bad, he was completely overshadowed as far as pen performances go.

I have a feeling he'll hit another this game. I said he'd hit 50 when he was at like 30-something and now I wonder if he can even hit 60? At the pace he's going, it isnt out of the question. I expect he'll end up around 53-54 though.

Well he didnt end up hitting another HR but he did go a whopping 5-5 today with 2 RBI's. Beltre is hitting .342 now and is up to 97 RBI's. Not the MVP? Please! Lead is now back to 5 also. :D

Oh, and is Jason Bay a total stud in the making or what? Damn! Hard to imagine Beltre has been in the bigs for 5 years longer and is actually younger than Bay.

Please, is for sure.

Barry is hitting .367. Barry is sitting on 181 walks and just 25 strikeouts as we speak. Barry is on base more than six times out of every 10 plate appearances (200-plus points higher than either Beltre's or Rolen's on-base percentage). Barry strikes fear in the hearts of the heartiest pitchers and sends their managers screaming into therapy and begging for Xanax. Barry's OPS is 1.425, roughly 400 points higher than Beltre and Rolen, and higher than any of his previous MVP seasons. Barry has pulled a lineup made up of old men and young lightweights within a game of the wild-card lead. Barry hits .429 when there are runners in scoring position and two outs. Barry slugs .813 (150-odd points better than Beltre and almost 200 better than Rolen). Barry maintains his focus through a season-long intentional walkfest. Barry pokes balls up and out of his pitcher-friendly home ballpark. Barry has 35 home runs, 106 hits, 101 runs scored, and 22 doubles ... in just 287 at-bats.

BARRY IS THE MVP -- BY FAR

Yeah but he's playing on basically the same team that in 2003 beat the Dodgers by 15.5 games. This year the Dodgers are ahead by 5 games over the Giants.

That's a 20.5 game swing that can be attributed to Beltre.

CHICAGO (AP) -- Chicago Cubs reliever Kyle Farnsworth took out his frustrations by kicking an electric fan. Now he's expected to miss at least three weeks.

Farnsworth was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained and bruised right knee Saturday, one day after he gave up six runs in the ninth inning to the Houston Astros. Farnsworth, who'd been struggling, threw his glove in the stands as he left the field following the six-run ninth that helped the Astros to a 15-7 victory.

Then, as he went back to the Cubs clubhouse, he kicked an electric fan that sits in the runway from the dugout, manager Dusty Baker said. Farnsworth was on crutches Saturday and declined comment.

``He was rather upset after the game, You hate for it to happen. You wish things had been handled better,'' Baker said. ``You know everybody has done something similar at some time in their career. There's a valuable lesson here, an expensive one.''

Farnsworth, whose fastball sometimes hits 100 mph, has been booed at Wrigley Field while he's struggled the last month. That pattern continued Friday, when he gave up six hits, including a homer to Carlos Beltran.

``He's obviously had a rough go the last month or so. He pitched really well the first half. Obviously, he was frustrated yesterday and it got the better of him,'' Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said Saturday.

``You wish you could have handled your frustration differently because it affects not just yourself but everyone else. This game is tough enough to keep everybody healthy and you hate to have injuries that cost DL time that weren't done on the field.''

Farnsworth is 4-4 with a 5.12 ERA in a team-high 65 games and had 69 strikeouts in 58 innings. The Cubs recalled right-hander Todd Wellemeyer from Triple-A Iowa. Wellemeyer is in his second stint with the Cubs and is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in 12 games.

Cubs trainer Dave Groeschner said Farnsworth had an MRI exam, which ruled out ligament damage, but he does have a lot inflammation in his knee.

``From what he did, he almost hyperextended it,'' Groeschner said, estimating it be three-to-four weeks until Farnsworth can pitch.

It's ok. Giants lost today. Cubs still leading the wild card! Plus as long as the Cubbies win tommorrow it's all for naught.

This was the typical Cubs loss though.

1) One run loss

2) Stupid errors that cost them runs and the game.

3) Swinging at bad pitches in key situations.

They way they played early on by giving up 3 runs on an error they deserved to lose the game.

What if the Cubbies lose tomorrow....Stros would be back in this thing and the fear oh yes the fear would set in...the Cubs would have the fear of choke in them...again.

Lol. Even if by an act of God the Stros win tommorrow they are finished for the year. Don't delude yourself. They have too many injuries right now.

LMFAO! Yankees with a 9-run 9th inning and take an 18-6 lead over the Jays. Menechino actually got the last out for the Jays.

Scary play with Sheffield, though. Hope the injury isn't serious. After that, and a 12 run lead, why do you leave Rivera in there? WTF?

The next 15 games should be really interesting... during the same stretch the Cubs play the Marlins and the Expos. Two teams playing fairly well and spoiler crazy.

What was the point of leaving Rivera in there? That was just stupid. Hell, it would have given a bullpen chance for Mr. Loaiza. Not like he's pitched much lately.
