Ichiro has been struggling lately. A lot of 0 for 4s, 1 for 4s lately...

He's going to have to get it together and string a couple of multi-hit games together if he has any shot.

"Ortiz, the Red Sox slugger, was quoted recently as saying, "I betcha they're very worried about us. They know our pitching's doing well and our hitting's doing well. Their pitching is not doing very good. I know almost 100% they're thinking about (the series). We're in good shape right now."

"We're up four games and we've got no pitching," Mussina said. "Write that down."

"Everything is on the line," Sheffield said. Of that incident and Varitek, Sheffield noted on Tuesday, "If he wants to be a tough guy, we'll take that challenge. I don't care if these guys hit us or throw at us. We ain't gonna stand for it and it definitely ain't going to turn out the way it did the last time."

"You [take care of business] on the baseball field, you would hope players don't react till the situation and try to harm the other team," Sheffield began when he was asked about Varitek's infamous catcher's mitt slap to Alex Rodriguez' face seven weeks ago in Boston. "But if it came down to it, you've got to do what you've got to do."

"Everything has to go through New York as far as Boston is concerned," Damon said. "We're ready for it. We feel like we have a better team."

Bonds, who will be chasing Babe Ruth (714) and Hank Aaron (755) the next two years, said on Wednesday night that he'd like to extend his contract with the San Francisco Giants through 2007. He'll be 43 years old by the end of that season.

Bonds is under contract for next year with a vesting option for 2006 based on plate appearances.

"I'd probably want to extend my contract one extra year; that way, if anything should change, I wouldn't have to worry about free agency," Bonds said before the Giants whipped the Brewers, 8-1, at Miller Park on a night when he went 0-for-4 with a walk. "But 2007 will definitely be it for me, no matter what.

"Next year is really going to dictate what I do after the 2006 season. Even if I sign an extension, if I feel like it's time for me to move on after 2006, I'll know after the 2005 season. At that point, I'll let everybody know whether 2006 will be my last or whether I plan to move on to 2007."

if he plays thru 2007, he'll have more than 800....insane.

The only way to stop Bonds from hitting homers is to actually hit him with the ball on purpose everytime at the plate...

That would some funny shit... I can just imagine what the league would do.

"Due to unfortunate events following Barry Bonds recent injury, I have but no choice to suspend play for the rest of the season."

I would just like to see how many he would hit if they actually pitched to him an entire season. I really would love to see that.

He did play before the 2001 season.

Four errors in four innings for the Cards? LaRussa you bitch lay down for the Stros. That's fine. I hope it puts your Cards team into a tailspin they can't get out of and will be perfect picking for the Cubs in the playoffs!

Aramis with 3 HR and the Cubs are still only winning by one run.

Newsflash: You only need to win by one run. :p

no kidding. Newsflash: even if hawkins doesn't blow this game, you're still behind in the wildcard.

Not in the loss column. :D Giants got 6 games with LA, 3 with San Diego, and 3 with Houston left. PUHHHHLEEEEAAZZZEEE if you think they will hang with the Cubs.

just curious, how many times are you gonna flip flop from "god the cubs suck" to "we already won the wildcard" ?

because this has to be about 15 or so by now.

Cubs have finally forgone all that extra offield BS to go out and win! I'm finally confident enough in this team to say they are gonna win this wild card!

Poor White Sox fan. I remember years when the Cubs were bad. The only thing you have left is to hope the Cubs choke since your team couldn't get the job done.

Cubs are 2 wins away from back-2-back winning seasons

Yup. Lol, that is really sad.....

BTW, don't want to jinx this team, but I think they may finally be heating up.

The Cubs fans are loony tunes just like the Cubs players, their comments and predictions should be expected at this point.

:lol I gave up on the season 3 weeks after the all-star break. Any team's two best hitters go down and you know it's over. And If the Sox were in first by 12.5 games I'd still be pulling for the Cubs to choke this hard. I always do.

But seriously, answer the question. Why must you continually flip flop? I mean...pretty much every main poster in this thread's team has had a really bad run. No one even comes close to you. You seem to take losses just like the cubs players.

I'm not even going to complain about what you just wrote...the Cubs invented chocking and losing.

Oops, make that any.

Yeah, I just don't think Oswalt deserves it this year. He has the talent to get one someday, just not this year. His ERA is out of character for him, along with other things...If Clemens and Oswalt each end up with the same # of wins, I'd have to give it to Clemens.

And Pavano could have 3 masterful starts, who knows.

Cards hitters just got owned in the 7th

Jason Schimidt was my pick about a month ago... but since then he has fell apart. So I have to go with Clemens or the Johnson... they've both have had amazing seasons for being over 40.
