This upsets the establishment. They hate the fact that some uppity black woman is stealing their sport and making the rest of them irrelevant, even though they're still being paid millions, sometimes prestige comes with its own thrills, even in spite of monetary compensation.

They don't have the balls to say "We hate that this fucking nigger is taking over a sport built for white people, and our players aren't as popular or as talented." so what do they do? They attack her feminine features, despite the fact that if Serena were a blonde haired blue eyed white girl from Beverly Hills she'd have almost a Kate Upton level of worship if she had Serena's body. They compare her to a man. They try to bring her down anyway they can.

They hate her because she's the embodiment of everything they think of black women and she uses her talents to beat them at their own game. What does Serena do in respond? She shrugs that shit off like a champ and continues to win, year after year after year.

That my friends, is the mark of a true champion and their salty tears seemingly only fuel her desire to win.

Frankly, it does for me too.

I always see commentary about women, usually PoC, with larger thighs/butts are not as attractive because they look overweight or masculine if they pack muscle.

But they would be all over some malnourished looking chick who ass is flatter than a brick wall. But hey! At least she has some nice tits!

The Serena thing almost comes at no surprise to me, but its still annoying as fuck to hear about. Especially anyone saying they feel like a women by being skinny. Ugh.

I forgot to reply to that thread after being quoted several times.

They are downplaying the boos of Venus. Venus wasn't as dominant as Serena, but you better believe she was booed when she was the world number 1. I remember distinctly my mother and I watching the Wimbledon and the boos happening when she was winning.

Here's the deal with that- keep in mind that I've been drinking so this MAY not be coherent.

The establishment LOVES (or LOVED- until he fucked up) Tiger Woods. Loved him. Tiger expanded the game so drastically everyone benefited- from national TV ratings right on down to your local Golf Galaxy. From the jump Tiger was treated like every other black athlete, and that's pretty much like royalty. His competitors weren't all that happy about getting dominated, but then again, who is? Since Tiger started fucking up and his life went completely off the rails the golf establishment has STRUGGLED to find anyone with half his appeal. Golf equipment is piling up unsold. TV ratings are in the toilet. Local memberships to country clubs are down drastically since the peak. the establishment is DESPERATE to find someone else on this level and they don't care who it is, minority or not.

Serena and Venus good as they are never did for tennis what Tiger did for Golf. Not really their fault- whether it was the lack of novelty (arthur ashe broke the color barrier in tennis long before any of us were alive) or simply a gender issue we could argue about that all day. Tennis memberships didn't explode after Venus and Serena started winning.
As for endorsements? yeah, I'll agree that's some bullshit- but none of us are blind. That's entirely down to "sex appeal" and not much else. Wasn't there a tennis pro that couldn't win a singles game to save her life but was racking up endorsements anyway?
Oh yeah There was

The establishment- or actually I should say western culture as a whole doesn't value black women as sex objects as much as it does white women, or hispanic women, OR asian women. That's a very deep rooted problem that goes beyond the influence of the "tennis establishment."

Also, where are you getting your information? Tennis blew up with the success of Venus and Serena, especially at inner-city schools. It certainly became more popular than golf.

wow. personally if she was a guy i was attracted to that said that i would be turned off. I remember downloading a gay porn because the bottom guy was a cute black guy and in the video the top guy who was white and the black guy and the camera guy were all very very verbal and then it happened, the white guy almost said nig... then laughed it off and so did the camera guy. i deleted that video so fast.

Golf is in a full on panic

At every level

Since Tiger crashed and burned.

The peak coincides with his win streak

And the decline coincides almost exactly with his fall from grace.

Golf as an industry expanded to match the new players Woods was bringing in at all levels. when woods screwed up, those players and eyeballs all left en masse leaving the industry in crisis. There is no indication the williams sisters are that influential to tennis. I don't think ANYBODY has been that important to a single sport, outside of maybe Jordan during his heyday.

raw ratings numbers are hard to find, but I did come across a 2010 article (right around when tiger was peaking) that points out that tiger missing tournaments dropped ratings for the masters in half- he was singlehandedly doubling ratings. tournaments where he participated but failed to make the finals saw a drop of 20%.

I don't think we'd see that kind of correlation for serena's participation.
