http://www.vox.com/2015/7/20/9005855/black-twitter-bernie-sandersSaw the Sanders fans piling on you in that thread. Yeesh.
I haven't done a great job of keeping up with politics and the various candidates' plans for tackling racism, but the reactions of Sanders' supporters toward people who dare question his commitment to black issues is really fucking off-putting. If these are the types of people who are going to be influencing the direction Sanders takes his campaign in, then I question whether Sanders really would be the best candidate to address racial issues.
That said, I'll give Sanders some credit; some of the quotes I've seen attributed to him do make me think he "gets it" to an extent. However, he's completely failed to demonstrate that in the BLM confrontations. Frankly, he's just come across as kind of incompetent both times.
Bernie Supports do him a disservice
The funny thing is, after the Bernie protest a few weeks ago, he talked about how much black lives mattered for about a week straight. This stuff works, and it gets candidates talking about our issues. Why are his supporters so angered by this? I don't get it.
And they get really angry...
