Saw the Sanders fans piling on you in that thread. Yeesh.

I haven't done a great job of keeping up with politics and the various candidates' plans for tackling racism, but the reactions of Sanders' supporters toward people who dare question his commitment to black issues is really fucking off-putting. If these are the types of people who are going to be influencing the direction Sanders takes his campaign in, then I question whether Sanders really would be the best candidate to address racial issues.

That said, I'll give Sanders some credit; some of the quotes I've seen attributed to him do make me think he "gets it" to an extent. However, he's completely failed to demonstrate that in the BLM confrontations. Frankly, he's just come across as kind of incompetent both times.

Bernie Supports do him a disservice

The funny thing is, after the Bernie protest a few weeks ago, he talked about how much black lives mattered for about a week straight. This stuff works, and it gets candidates talking about our issues. Why are his supporters so angered by this? I don't get it.

And they get really angry...

I don't follow politics all that closely. Is the zealotry that follows Sanders normal around election time? His supporters get furious at people who say anything cross about him.

EDIT: Also, hi, everyone. This is my first time posting here.

It's because there really is no questioning his commitment. It's fabricated. Now his messaging might come across sloppy when it comes to responding to BLM, I agree but he certainly doesn't pander and then take huge amounts of money from prisons or the large financial institutions.

What Bernie do this time?

I hope BLM runs up on hillary like this, especially because she's gonna be the nominee, and the probable president.

So was I correct in thinking that they did that not because they're mad at him but because of his likelihood in getting the nomination?

Yeah, she's a former FLOTUS, senator and Secretary of State. And she's got millions upon millions in campaign money.

Basically, if she doesn't want you on her stage, you ain't getting the fuck up on her stage...

No they don't and many white liberals are just as ignorant about racial issues as conservatives.

Shit, we used to stay fighting on DailyKos. I've participated in at least 2 BlackKos boycotts of the site. And of course liberal stronghold NeoGAF is just full of cultural acceptance and understanding. We're gamers, that's part of what we're all about. Loving this cross-cultural art.

but way more patronizing about it

Truth. In a weird way, it's kind of refreshing that a lot of conservatives don't even pretend to give a shit about racial issues. They're way less frustrating to deal with than white liberals who talk over you to tell you how to achieve your own equality lol.

the opposites are semi-at it about T-Swifty's new video or something

"I don't get the violence revenge thing," Cyrus, who has been both celebrated and criticized for her own racy looks and antics, told the magazine. "That's supposed to be a good example?" the 22-year-old added. "And I'm a bad role model because I'm running around with my t-tties out? I'm not sure how t-tties are worse than guns."

well that's just yesterday's racist/moderate racist (in contrast to the go-fuck-yourself-and-die racist) with the bootstraps and ghetto youths not knowing better, being made that way by God. these things take time, messages need to evolve.

I know. So what's a true believer?

He's hardline on his fringe beliefs and policies. They are fundamental to him, whereas a politician like Obama and Hillary are more moderate, and have to "evolve" to the left.

It was a turn of phrase, I wasn't saying Sanders is some cult leader or something.

I'm enjoying the conspiracy theories about Soros in the BLM/Sanders thread. That is some seriously funny and out there shit.

I'm just curious because true believer sounds like a true liberal or at least thats what I inferred initially, meaning that they SHOULD be on Bernies side.

Yes his politics aren't centrist but neither was Obama's when he ran (he ended up being a centrist in office.) Anyway I think theres a lot the American people can get behind when it comes to Bernie and his crazy socialist ideas... Such as medical care reform, education, financial industry reform, etc. I personally don't think those things are that left to be honest but this is America where everything thats progressive seems to be left of center.

Heh, I know, I'm just reacting to that thread right now. Still holding on to some of that frustration.

The general, thinly-veiled insecurity re: Hillary in that thread is pretty entertaining, tbh.

So how do I get in on this #BlackLivesMatter conspiracy? If niggas is plotting that means somebody is getting paid...

Shit, next time Bernie is in Philly I'll hop on that stage and ask if he was #TeamBrandy or #TeamMonica in the 90s...

Put me on. Let's get this guap.

I haven't had a personal issue with Bernie or his policies (I actually agree that shrinking the wealth gap is the best course of action at this point in time), and I think the two times his rallies/debate have been hijacked were in poor form, but all the "what more do you people want???" in that thread is too funny.

But the thing with all protests is I can't fault people for protesting. The conditions legitimizes the protests. How much is a life worth? Can't you criticize all protests? Boston Tea Party was just a bunch of thugs wasting perfectly good tea until history fully evaluated it.

Protests are like presidents. Trying to evaluate it in the current time setting is futile. Only a year later can we start to appreciate Ferguson, after seeing the true nature of the municipal court system of Missouri and St Louis county.

I'm impressed with BLM because I never thought I would see something like that. They shut down a campaign event and sent the guy home. That's powerful and decreases my respect for Bernie. He seems like a good guy but incapable of adapting. He didn't have a late night meeting addressing this 3 weeks ago. You have to question his ambivalence to BLM. I could write him a speech right now that would counter and recognize BLM.

Him, running away, unprepared, looks soft and weak.

Cept this wasn't BLM... and did he run away? I mean he gave up the mic because you know why not let them scream their heads off and look like unprepared idiots. I believe he left when they refused to give the mic back and just kept trolling.

that's because guns don't kill people, t*tties do.
