Hey what do y'all think of this article?
http://boingboing.net/2015/10/09/black-characters-in-video-game.html

I actually remember seeing that character in oblivion and kind of thinking that it was it hit home kind of culturally, there were so many racial analogues to blackness in the form of the redguard and other races in oblivion (adrenaline rush....really?) that when I ran into Trayvond, I automatically knew something was amiss because I was raised in the vein that magic was wrong and satanic.

Been lurking in this thread for the past few months (made a few posts here and there), but I think I'll finally do a formal introduction. Hi, everyone:

Where you're from - Brooklyn
Where you live - Atlanta
What is your age? - 22
Your cultural heritage, lineage and genealogy - My family hails from Jamaica, but everyone in my generation was born in the U.S. I identify as black, but I'm technically mixed (dad is black/white, mom had a black father and a black/white jewish mother)
Do you know your roots - Aside from Jamaica, I think we had some dudes from Germany and England?
Favorite musical genre - Punk and alternative rock. I'm dipping my toes into rap and synthpop.
Your profession/major/career interest - Student looking to major in graphic design. The dream is to make comics or direct an animated series though.
Your religious affiliation - Agnostic
Hobbies - Drawing, working on my story ideas, watching anime/cartoons. Did some independent study in Japanese over the Summer. Wanna get back into that soon.
KFC, Popeye's, Churches, or Bojangles? - Popeye's. There's one on my way home from work at a pretty busy intersection. Every time there's a red light I always have to stop myself from just turning in and going ham every day. The biscuits are lit, but I do wish they'd bring back the waffle tenders.
Fun fact - I was an extra in Captain America: Civil War. Didn't get to see Black Panther though.

Fan of Mafia 2 so just glad there is another one in the works. Like that they are shaking up the characters and people getting salty about it lol. Gameplay has too much cover shooting for my liking from what i saw in the first trailer but those brutal excutions were tight.
Looking forward to it.

I don't see a problem. Did they change something since the reveal that conflicts with the story?

Played the first one, never played the second, will most likely check out the third. Amused by but not surprised by the reaction to the protagonist.

The one drop rule only really applies if a person actually looks black. If they can pass, than no one would think twice about considering them white.
A perfect example is the woman from Little White Lie. She was raised by two white people and she believed that she was white, yet everyone who met her assumed she was black because she looks black.

Mafia 3 will be my first Mafia game as I never paid attention to the others thinking they were gta clones. That trailer got me so hype cause I've been waiting for a game with a black protagonist that takes place in that era forever.

The design of the protagonist is just ok. I'm not sure what they could have done to make Clay stand out more but he's kinda bland tbh.

The one drop rule is a reality in America and it's as simple as that. I mean hell, look how they treat the president and that's the highest position of power in the nation. I know a lot of biracial people hate choosing a side of whatever but it wasn't long ago where there wasn't even a choice . Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the responses guys. I've been trying to explain the one drop thing to a coworker of mine whose biracial and doesn't believe in it.

Punk and alt rock. I used to listen those primarily for a fair while. What's your favourite band?

Welcome and also I'm trying to look out for you, unless the school you're attending has a lot of connections with the industry, I'd say get the fuck out of that major. My friend has a degree in the same thing and the only job he's managed to get is at Home Depot. Also, did you get anyone's autograph?

My "favorites" tend to switch every few months, but recently I've been digging Weezer's first two albums pretty hard. And just last week I learned about this Japanese band White Ash. Been listening to them pretty much exclusively for the past few days.

Yeah, art degrees in general aren't the easiest to get by with. I started on the path to other majors in the past but realized that my heart just wasn't in it and my work suffered. I'm just gonna give it my all and take the good or bad consequences that come with the degree. For what's it's worth, Atlanta has solid opportunities for graphic designers, my school's program is pretty rigorous, and the latter years of the major require me to go out and actually work with a firm in order to graduate, so hopefully I'll be able to make some decent connections through that.

RE: autographs: Nope! The actors barely interacted with us, haha. Chris Evans would scurry into his tent as soon as his shots were done. Scarlett Johansson literally told the guys who were directing all the extras that she didn't want us looking at her. The only one who acknowledged the extras was Crossbones, but everyone in the group I was in was so surprised when he came over to talk that we all just kind of stood there awkwardly and didn't respond. He seemed like a really nice guy though.

Edit: One person did ask one of the stars for a photo. Don't know who it was, but the actor/actress "told on them" and the next day, the dude who was directing us had to tell us all (there were like 500 of us) over a mic not to do shit like that. So I don't think they were trying to have us fuck around with autographs and stuff lmao.

Alt-rock, graphic design and Popeye's?

I'm not joking.

Tell me this isn't a joke.

English is kind of a bullshit langauge, yeah? I mean:

"James while John had had had had had had had had had had had a better effect on the teacher"

Actually a sentence that makes sense. People who have English as their second language are impressive as fuck.

I mean, Beef, JC, and Duck still post in here, so I think you're still well above what could be considered a shitty post.

i dont think we can call JC showing up every blue moon posting in here

What happened to porn? It used to be about the sex. I don't know what's going on anymore. I feel old

Between this and the focus on incest, porn has lost itself
There's this one porn I was going to link to (and thought better of) that was a big sausage pizza with a heart attack plot twist.

A telling thing about DOAX3 is that KT actually DID localize it. The Asian version will have English language support. They just don't wanna ship it in western territories.

Really? Usually look for the english but in asia(mostly hong kong) stuff on PSN since they cost less and come out way earlier than whenever they decide to bring it over. Higher chance on finding english ones on china stores than Japanese

all the talk in the gods of Egypt thread about being a "true" Egyptian has got thinking, i really want to find out how far back my roots go in Egypt. (i'm a Arabic, not Coptic) But my father is a cunt, and i haven't spoken to him for at least a few years. So i can't :(

I don't live that life but I always wonder if those folks ahve to give so much of themselves and be "on" so often that when they get private moments they guard them like assholes.

Me personally I would be love to hang with the friends and do crazy shit like show up at folks wedding.

And the groupies 2 for every day of the week.

I bought Masterpiece Convoy for $145.52 shipped. Never thought I would see it at that price.

I thought they did that because DOAX2 was a bigger bomb than the new Fantastic 4 movie.

Yeah but they aren't even gonna admit that. It's much easier to lie about their publishing hurdles and scapegoat the audience that they'll never have than to admit that they produce a shit product that most people won't buy.
