Microsoft's launch plans flat out baffle me.
No Africa at all. No Asia until late 2014. No big countries like Argentina, Portugal, Japan, China, etc.
It's almost like people are new to console releases.
Consoles always have staggered releases. Look at the launches of the Xbox 360 (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_launch#Regional_sales) and Playstation 3 (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3_launch). Notice how both console manufacturers released in key territories first, and then subsequently launched in other territories
years later? Want to know why? Because it's par for the course as far as system releases are concerned.
These companies struggle to manufacture enough consoles to keep up with the demand of the few territories they actually do release in, so it's not surprising that they focus in on territories that are proven bread winners, while pushing every other territory to the back burner. It's good business. And neither the Playstation 3 or the Xbox 360 have officially launched in China, and I think you guys can come up for a few reasons why.
And the Xbox One is coming to Japan. Microsoft isn't going to drop money on a development studio in Osaka, and bankroll a Japan-centric title like D4, and then skip out on the region. Whether it releases this year is a legitimate question, but it's definitely going to release at some point. We'll probably hear something in the coming months considering TGS is around the corner.
As for restricting games outside of officially sanctioned countries, that's some of the most bone headed shit imaginable.
