When I was 12-13, I went with my mom to Palermo to visit her dying Grandfather who had moved back to Italy years prior. We straight up got pulled aside and grilled at the airport since they refused to believe that I was her son (my mom is white).

this was one idea of many i had back when i was in college and it worked adjacent to my other life goals. now its a legit option
its crazy how people don't even consider it though. like - why not even look? what's the harm in that shit? you can plan out what you want to do for spring break but can't look at semester abroad? little shit like that is what keeps you stuck
everyone here does have the opportunity though. everyone reading this. its not overnight and it shouldn't be an all or nothing goal but to not even consider the option is limiting yourself for what's really no reason at all

I agree that it comes down to what you can make work and what you can personally put up with. I don't blame anyone for deciding that means leaving the country, but by that same token I don't want people to be made out to be fools for staying or deciding not to move. I'm not saying that's happening but there is an undercurrent to the discussion where people are getting mad and that might be part of it.
If you can travel, definitely do it and broaden your horizons on with some personal experience in other places. I lived in the UK for four years and wouldn't trade that experience for anything, it really opened my eyes and I feel like changed the person I was in a lot of ways. But if you can't or you are staying and holding it down for your and your family I respect that as well.
