The Bold Statement thread....

Simple concept, make a statement that you figure most would disagree with it, and if you can please explain why you belive it.

The Chronicles of Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay is the BEST FPS on the current generation consoles. When I say best FPS I'm talking mostly from a design standpoint, so it doesn't lose or gain anypoints for novelty features that have nothing to due with the CORE design such as online play. So with that said, the game bitch slaps the hell out of Halo 2, and IMO is just noticeably better than Halo. Metroid Prime gets close in many areas but its horrible pacing, and gided gameplay put it behind Riddick. From a visual standpoint I dare not put any console game ahead of it, in the FPS genre or otherwise. Amazing story, presentation and pacing thats borderline perfection, multiple paths, varied gameplay, and tight gameplay Riddick is a masterpeice that even though it recieved it's share of acclaim, would no doubt be rated even higher if it was a highly hyped 2nd or 3rd party exclusive that didn't have a movie license.

Dreamcast was the best console this generation -- better than PS2.

While PS2 had amazing games and much more awesome games than DC, that was only because DC died. I still had a more fun and unique feeling experience playing Dreamcast than any other system this generation.

FFX was actually...dare I say it???...quite good.

FFX was shit and Square hasn't made a good Final Fantasy game since FFVII. Also the graphics in FFVII were terrible and although everyone was going bonkers about them at the time, I think they were terrible, even for the period.

Super Mario Land 2 is a better followup to Super Mario World than Yoshi's Island is. SML2 was one of the great examples of how design was more important than technology. With a controller equal to that of the NES and technical capabilities quite below it (stereo sound excepted), it was able to give a similar graphical look, adequate controls, and a nonlinear world. Yoshi's Island is fun, but a totally different beast. One I wouldn't consider a "Super Mario" title if Nintendo themselves hadn't called it one.

Devil May Cry 3 is the best action game ever made. People who complain about it only do so because they don't take the time to understand how to play it.

Okay, well you're just dumb (for the FFVII graphics comment).

Anyway yeah, FFX was great. Haters be damned.

The Wonderswan Color was better than the GBA.

Because I had it first, and spent $200 on it, would be why. :)
Plus FF1 and 2 were better on it than the gameshark versions the GBA got.

...isn't this topic just about statements? Not for people to go apeshit with replies. Go hate thread of the gaming forum?

God of War is not a great game.Yeah, I said it. It isn't even one of the 10 best games to be released this year. Kratos smolders with generic rage and the combat is boring. It's like Ico and Ninja Gaiden, only nowhere near as beautiful as the former and nowhere near as visceral as the latter.

quote Andrew Whittaker (of Alien V. Predator) who was working on the 3DO M2 RPG called Power Crystal:

"M2 really is the single finest piece of hardware we've worked with. Its
power will hit the world of entertainment software like a tidal wave."

Handheld Gaming is the future direction of gaming. Console gaming will soon hit a plateau despite dreams of VR and "jacking" into a game universe. As handheld gaming catches up and with the general trend of smaller gadgets with more features it will be the more popular choice with gamers. Handhelds will continue to communicate with each other for multiplayer and will eventually include AV out to connect to TV's if necessary (or maybe just wireless AV eventually). HDD's will soon be built in along with PDA style functionaility, web browser, cellphone or VOIP.

A new broadband which is in our Jacksonville area here and looks to be growing is Clearwire. It's a wireless broadband thats about as fast or a little faster than DSL. You get a modem which just plugs into an electrical socket then either a computer or router and picks up the broadband signal wireless. They have cellphone type towers all over the city and are making deals with intel to put their tech into newer chipsets for laptops and PDA's. So at somepoint you will be able to walk around the town or more as they continue to grow out and pick up a broadband signal anywhere. Putting this technology into the next generation of Handhelds would be phenominal. Wireless multiplayer anywhere, web browsing anywhere, streaming music or TV.

Nintendo is incredibly overrated as a developer and has not done jack squat this generation to earn the pathetic loyalty of its followers. None of the Nintendo (Japan) games have been epic, none have even been borderline great... merely average follow-ups to a more successful past, still eons behind the rest of the industry regarding production values. Here's a suggestion, Nintendo: voice acting. Everyone else does it.... many even manage to do it exceptionally well. Get on board. Here's another suggestion, Nintendo. Story. As in craft one that you haven't already done a million times before. I can only speak for myself here, but I just don't care to rescue Zelda from Ganon for the umpteenth time. Same for Peach. If this was 1995, I'd give Nintendo a bit more credit. But it's not, it's 2005, and their midi soundtracks, text dialog, repetitive stories, and collectathon gaming adventures are a thing of the past.

I see this is becoming another one of those excuse to troll threads :lol

Every thread is an excuse to troll for some people. On the plus side, it's an easy way for me to keep my ignore list up to date :lol

WoW is one of the worst things to happen to the gaming industry. Not because it's popular, but because it's TOO popular amongst Western game designers.

Transformers: The Movie is garbage. I make this assertion after recently watching it a few times, and realizing that even on a bad day, Beast Wars' dialogue and pacing for a 22 minute episode was leagues above what that movie was capable of doing in 90.

Castlevania 64 wasn't a bad game, in fact it was a good game that people just trashed because it was the popular thing to do. I doubt half of these haters even played through it, and those who did probably already had such a bad view of it from the press and message boards. It didn't live up to many of the previous Castlevanias, but it was a fun 3D platform/adventure.

Oblivion will be the best rpg of the next generation

BET ON IT

Best PC RPG yes without question. That is unless Planscape Torment gets a sequel.

"Wireless Lan Gaming is the Future of console gaming."

Nintendo are in BIG trouble next-gen unless they sort out more 3rd party support. I'd probably buy a console just for their 1st party stuff but it'll just end up sat there collecting dust for 3 months at a time unless it gets more quality releases from 2nd/3rd parties

At the same time, its scary to think anyone would think it was good that played it. It's a 7.0 out of 10 at the very best

hahaha EALA designers hahahaha

Also, all games have been in a steady downhill decline since the realese of Final Fantasy VI. It was the plateau.

The PSP has the worst ergonomics of a handheld ever.

The PS2 is going to outsell the Xbox 360 this holiday season (trust me).

The PSP will have less than 20% of the Japanese gaming market share by the end of 2005.

Sony is going to unveil more PS3 details including next gen GTA footage shortly in late October (less than a month before the 360's launch).

Perfect Dark 0 will be the second best game of 2005.

Nintendo is going to buy a majority of Sega's shares.

Final Fantasy 12 is going to be released in the US this year.

Nintendo is using its baffling gaming profits to fund terrorism.

Aries will reveal himself next month.

What also makes Castlevania 64 stand out in my mind was how Zelda:OoT robbed it of "best N64 soundtrack" awards that year. The only thing I thought was "None of you fuckers played Castlevania." >:(

Yes, I think we all remember that day. I couldn't even speak to my family

Sony's PlayStation 2 was a historic, mass-market appliance that fundamentally changed society in the way the printing press did.
