What do you MEAN, how do you pronounce Deus Ex?
You don't pronounce it like Deus Ex, you know. That makes you sound dumb.
You're supposed to say Deus Ex. Deus. Ex. Got it?

Hum no :p. Written that way in german would be "Ubiseuft" in french. So it's übisoft. Although the french "o" can sound differently. It's either like the german O or english O in "pose" fo instance, or like the english O in clock, depending on words. But it doesn't sound at all like ö
 
An odd one, but in Guild Wars 2 it really bugged me that everyone was talking about minotaur spirits.

Being British, I say Mine-O-Tar, but the game uses some (American?) dialect of Min-Uh-Tar.

And fuck choke-o-bos.

I interchange Ma-ree-o and Mar-ee-oh.
Mawrio sounds silly, but it fits the Noo Joysee accent and Mario is an italian-american plumber for Brooklyn.

And Neogaf has some awesome gifs in its threads.
Neojaf does not have any jifs.
 
SNES is pronounced as a single word snes/snez in the UK at least, mainland Europe friends have all said that too. It is correct.

I'm honestly confused as to where people are getting ooh-be-soft from. Bizarre.

Yeah, your friend is right, you're saying it wrong.
Japanese has equal stress on each syllable unless it's an extended vowel,
so; ya-ku-za - balanced and said together, not 'ya-koo-za', there's too much stress in the middle.

The only heathens here are the people who go around calling people heathens for using the correct pronunciation, instead of opening a dictionary and seeing that "giblets" is clearly pronounced \ˈjib-ləts\ (i.e.: soft G).

The ones who are open-minded about it, though, are fine by me.
 
italian and japanese have pretty much the same pronunciation for the vowels so i have almost zero problem with their titles

btw, plus doesn't have the U of "Us" but the "oo" like "fool"

so, psn ploos.
 
If Ico is pronounced eeco, then how do people who say it this way, say the word "eco". Two words spelled differently should not have the same sound

I say it like "Icon" minus the n at the end

I've been arguing lately with a coworker whether it's spelled Dr. Wily, as in "wah-eeh-lee", whereas he argues that it should be pronounced "Whee-lee".

I mean, it's pretty obvious it's the first one. We're in Mexico tho, so that may be a factor.
 
Growing up with FFVII/VIII, I heard lots of variations of these names;
Sephiroth (seh-fi-roth/ros, seh-fear-oth)
Ellone (eh-lone, ell-i-oun)
Edea (ee-dee-a, e-dee-a, ee-da)
Rinoa (ri-no-a, rye-no-a)
Seifer (see-fur, say-fur, sigh-fur)
Tifa (tee-fa, tiff-a)

His name gets spelt differently a few times. Should be Why-ly but is also Will-ly as well.
 
When Okage: Shadow King came out, I was working at Gamestop. The Assistant Manager would always pronounce it oh-kuh-jee and it drove me mad.
 
I don't care if it's not the "official" spelling, Aeris will always be Aeris. "Aerith" just sounds like you have a lisp.

So if they spelled out the the word Washington as Washingutonu and explicitly referenced it as Washington DC, you'd pronounce it as Washingutonu? That's what you're saying with this image. Evangelion is already a word, you can't just go by the way it's pronounced In Japanese because it's a Japanese series. That's stupid and factually incorrect.

Some dude was giving me a hard time about my pronounciation on one of my youtube videos. I feel like (a) sounds better but maybe (b) is right.

Japanese pronunciation of this word matches quite well with how the word is pronounced in Greek/Latin, its origin language.

That reminds me. While not as completely questionable as that, when Street Fighter 2 was releatively new at the arcade, there was a guy that would pronounce Guile as Gwee-lay.
 
Can someone upload a sound byte showing the difference between maw-rio and mah- rio? Different accents make people think these sound like different things so I'm not exactly sure what people are trying to convey

Yup I've always said SNES and NES as acronyms [snɛz] and [nɛz]. Not entirely sure why the /s/ is voiced into a /z/ probably something to do with being syllable coda. NES came first and then SNES was just adopted by default. I don't know anyone who pronounces either console as an initialism, think it's just a States thing.
