Indeed it does. Typing them out doesn't help as much when you don't know the persons accent.

Some of these phonetics only sound right according to the usual American accent.

I also say Snez/Sness because hell, a lot of initials are pronounced as words/acronyms. (BUPA, DARPA, FEMA, etc.) Basically most initials over 3 letters.

And my main peeve relating to pronunciation: IT IS LA (Like singing) -RA (Like the Egyptian sun god)
It is not Lair - Ah, and it is certainly not Laura because that is a different name entirely!

No, but do you pronounce NASA as en-ey-es-ey or NATO as en-ey-tee-oh? There are some differences between acronyms and initialisms but as far as I know, there's no clear rule about it. The wiki page on acronyms also shows some nice examples of combinations like MS-DOS where the usual pronunciation is ehm-es-dohs.

I've been saying SNES and NES as whole words instead of initialisms my whole life and I suspect a large part of Europe does also, but I'm probably pulling that out of my ass right now.

It's funny all this talk about 'Laura' being pronounced as "Lore-ah' when I have an aunt named 'Laura' and we all pronounce it as 'Lah-rah.'

This whole Lara Laura thing just confuses me. I've only thought the name had one pronunciation- 'Lah-rah.'

I'm pretty sure that's the common way to say it in the Netherlands as well. I've always pronounced it "ness" and "sness". Didn't even know until recently that it's pronounced differently in other regions.

Probably the same people who ride the buzz and not the buss or even basss. Ooop north in UK it was always a snez unless you were either a bit camp, somewhat affected or the type of person who didn't lower themselves to ride on buzzes or busses, but then Daddy probably bought you a Neo Geo anyway.

Find it odd that Mario's name causes confusion considering it is a real name. Though the big difference seems to be how long you decide to hold the 'a'. Despite the games having a short 'a' sound people still insist of calling him Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaario. Same problem with Yoshi. People agree it is Yo-shi, but while the games say Yo-shi some people insist of calling him Yoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo-shi.

I always hold the "a" in Mario for at least twenty seconds. Is that incorrect?

They changed it to Cif in 2001. It will forever be Jif to me. (Even though the lemon juice is Jif too)

Both are delicious on pancakes, but the cleaning products have more flavours.

The soft R in Ryo from Shenmue has always been difficult for people I think. It sounds almost like Dio to me.

Yeah, a lot of the English actors accidentally went for the hard 'D' sound, when it's actually in between 'd' and 'r'. Difficult for English speakers. It's more like a roll on the tongue, but I'm sure that's hard to portray to actors if they are trying it for the first time.

I dont know if this counts but I used to work in games retail & the best mis-pronunciation I've heard was when somebody asked for 'Lenor' pronounced as in the fabric softener. Me & my colleagues were dumfounded until the customer brought the pre-order case to the counter..........LA Noire
 
So what is the correct pronunciation for Ubisoft?

Please don't say ooh-bee-soft.

I want video proof of a Ubisoft PR or developer saying it.

SNES... Abbreviations w four or more letters usually get said like a world. OSHA, PETA, FIFA vs NFL, FBI CIA

MARIO: my uncles name is mario... Mare-io, hates when people say mawrio

I always pronounce it "Ma-ri-o" (with a short a), not "Maw-ri-o" or "Mah-ri-o". :D

"you-be-soft" because it short for "Ubiquitous Software" at least that's what I heard a rep say on one of the old 1-up podcasts.

Much like Teedus/Tide-us I actually started to adhere to it, to change the way I spoke so that it was correct to the J-pronounciation.

And then I just thought fuck it, I'm British, I should stick to the dialect that feels natural. So chock-obos and Tide-us it is.
 
I thought UbiSoft is derived from the words "ubiquitous" and "software"

So that would mean Yu-be-soft.

Though I have been in the Ubi HQ and heard it said Oo-bi-soft. :D
