The Disney Blu-ray Thread: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Vault

The fact that 101 Dalmatians is not released on blu-ray yet is just insane.

Like these?

I find the American treatments do a better job with the covers and slipcases, tbh.

Incredibly superficial, I know, but I can't turn back now ;_;

Can't argue with that.

A few of my Disney Blu's have slipcases, and some do not. Now, this isn't something that bothers me too much, but I've been thinking of just getting rid of the slipcases. I know people value them highly, so instead of just binning them I was thinking of selling them on.

Also there's been an upgrade to Disney Movie Club.

It used to be that if you were not a member and you searched for something that you couldn't order as part of your sign-up package but that they had for members, you just got no results. Now you get "Members Only" results:

It'll be helpful for if you're considering signing up primarily to get new releases but you can't tell if they're available on the club or not. You get the same results for Mulan, for example.

You might be confused.

- Goof Troop can only be purchased through Disney Movie Club
- Goof Troop can be redeemed for points in Disney Movie Rewards, but cannot be purchased there

To find it on Disney Movie Club, just log in and scroll down. It's the banner image for "NEW Disney DVD exclusives". Or if you go through All -> DVD Exclusives, it's the top two items there.

Hmm. Is this the US store?

If I log in to DMR I don't see 'dvd exclusives' anywhere, even under the reward categories.

edit: still nothing searching for 'goof troop'

Sorry, there still seems to be confusion here:

- If you are a member of the Disney Movie Club (a Columbia House style club where you get cheap movies in exchange for agreeing to buy full-price movies within the next two years, located at http://disneymovieclub.go.com) you may purchase Goof Troop for 24.95 a volume (Canadian Prices). These Goof Troop DVDs are exclusive to members of the Disney Movie Club.

- Once you have purchased those, they come with pieces of paper (just like every other Disney movie) which can be redeemed for points on Disney Movie Rewards, a website located at http://www.disneymovierewards.go.com/ where you use redeemed points to receive DVDs or other items as rewards. The Goof Troop DVDs are not available for purchase at Disney Movie Rewards.

Every time this thread is bumped I think "Oh! Maybe Little Mermaid is out, I better check!" and it's always not out yet! October? Ffffffffff. >_<

:lol

Are you that excited? The blu-ray won't be out until after the 3D theater release, correct? But yeah, I'm also kinda pumped for it. Little Mermaid is going to cost me about $80 altogether: $35 BD release (the wife wants the soundtrack version) and probably ~$45 at the theaters

What's the opinion on Emperor's New Groove? Eyeing the sales at Amazon for the upcoming bunch.

It's a very un-Disney type of movie. Outside of the opening and ending, there are no musical numbers, the humor is great (David Spade, Patrick Warburton and Eartha Kitt do a fantastic job) but it's still touching. One of my favorite Disney movies, easily.

So, I'm thinking of doing the Disney Movie Club thing to get Goof Troop...and I see they don't have Monsters Inc on bluray.

Yes they do. Every Disney animated movie that's not in the vault is on the site. Only some titles can be used to sign up with, while other titles are members-only. They have the 5-disc 3D Combo Pack, the regular Blu+DVD, and the DVD+Blu pack.

Just call them on the phone if you are confused with the web sign-up process, which is confusing.

Weird...I searched for it and got no results. :(

I ended up signing up with Finding Nemo, Nausicaa, Whisper of the Heart and Hocus Pocus all on bluray.

I guess once I'm signed up, some of the ones I'll get to ~keep my contract~ will be the Goof Troop series and Monsters Inc.

ROBIN HOOD. :D

Sounds like you just did the normal sign-up offer instead of using a high-value code, and didn't take advantage of the ability to order some of your commitment titles at the same time as you signed up :/

Well the default offer is, what, 4 cheap-ass movies with a commitment to buy or 4 more? The better offer is 5 cheap-ass movies + 2 discounted movies, one of which counts towards your 3 movie commitment (leaving you 2 total full-price movies to buy)--so the total ends up being around $90 for 9 versus the default which is maybe $120 for 8 or so?

Upsetting...I guess I can't go back on it now?

That's the release list for North America, except that Jungle Book is not currently dated or scheduled for release in North America, and neither is The Sword in the Stone.

Edit: Also Howl's Moving Castle and My Neighbor Totoro are both next week (Studio Ghibli movies distributed by Disney)

Edit 2: Looks like Walmart is listing Sword in the Stone for August 6th as well, neat.

Yeah, I totally misunderstood, sorry. Thank you for clearing it up, I thought I was going blind.

Noticed Amazon was doing a Studio Ghibli sale today. Any suggestions as to which ones are worth picking up? I've only seen Kiki (and Mononoke, but that's DVD and I'm only getting Bluray stuff now).

I realized the OP is a little out of date so I made this:

full-listt7u4e.jpg

Not the prettiest graphic ever, but conveys what it needs to convey. No banner = buy it today. Vault banner = it's in the vault, if you still see it pick it up but you might not be able to find it. No Blu = No Blu-Ray available or dated. Green date banner = Release date upcoming. Feel free to repost somewhere else if you want to, I don't need any credit for it.

Great, useful graphic, but there are 2 duplicate titles on it (Rescuers & Fantasia).
Looking through, it's wild to think that I'm only 4 titles from finishing my personal Disney BD collection (Aladdin, Mermaid, Dalmatians, Jungle Book).

It might be worth checking and removing the repeated ones.

From what I can tell, he has them listed in the order of theatrical release. Therefore, some of the blu-rays (Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 an Resuers/Rescuers Down Under) would appear twice, as the original movie and its theatrical sequel were in the same package.
