The E3 '08 Sony Prediction and Discussion Thread

I can't believe that some of you guys takes this as if FF13 no longer is a PS3 game.

Sorry but I have a really hard time understanding your reasoning behind dropping off the PS3 boat just because there now will be more people to enjoy this new Final Fantasy game.

Seems like it.

Ugh, why the hell is everyone making a big deal out of a game TWO YEARS FROM NOW?

If you bought a PS3 in expectation for the game...well, you have two years to be disappointed, I guess. :lol

Sony needs HOME to come offically this year. And it needs to be 100% connected and pushed with trophies.

IMO, FFXIII is a big deal in the puiblic eyes, yes, but long term Sony has to come up with an answer for the NetFlix deal that MS has. The one thing that frustrates me about the PS3 is that there isnt a movie/tv marketplace.. unless im completely missing something int he PSstore.. Seems like they should have had a service like this over a year ago...

From IGN's Live Blog (others say the same thing)

1:01 - They are "ready to start" developing FF XIII. So first they will complete the PS3 version in Japan, then start a localization for the US and Europe while they start development on the 360 version.

What have they been doing for the past 3 years ?

Other than the FFXIII announcement, did any of the predictable haters in this thread actually see the embarrassment that was Microsoft's conference?

A toaster peripheral could make up the entirety of Sony's conference and people would walk away with the same impact.

This is true. No Alan Wake and no announcements of anything new or previously unknown. The FFXIII megaton blinded most people to what was otherwise a very predictable and not particularly groundbreaking conference.

They'll have it tomorrow. Sony announced at a financial analyst's meeting earlier that they'd be introducing their video store in the US this summer.

Wouldn't they want to sell BD's instead?

There was Portal, and some XBLA games. And that eyetoy movie thing.

Sony can't compete on shock value tomrrow, but they can sure as heck compete on content (and then some). That's what I think you'll see from them tomorrow. But barring Sony being the one to pull a 'mote out of their back pockets, don't expect nearly the same shock value.

They would be stubborn to say "we're only going to offer movies/tv shows on BRD". I think BLuRays are good for gifts and picking up in the store ona whim, but man, when you're at home with your boxers and works socks on, you dont want to get your ass up and go outside to just get a movie. They HAVE to do this, its the future. THIS IS LIVING.

Seriously.

Though this is a bit of a blow to morale it really doesn't change things as dramatically as people seem to think.

Ps3 owners are still playing all the games they were planning on playing.
FFXIII will still be a system seller in Japan where it is most needed.
After GTAIV, the ability of FFXIII to move consoles in europe and the us must be questioned.

The big downer as I see it, is the potential for the game itself to be compromised due to being multiplatform. Though that of course is far from a sure thing anyway.

This isn't necessarily a case of Sony dropping the ball, this is a case of the economic reality of HD game development.

If Sony has a poor showing of 1st party titles, then they have dropped the ball and are fucked. We shall see.

Initially it looked really bad for Sony and a great win for MS, but it looks like Sony still has a timed exclusive on their hands if the localized PS3 versions will be released before the 360 versions.

Seriously.

You can play it on both platforms people. Though according to recent comments, if you have a PS3, you'll be playing it a year early.

Not to mention based on that sorry excuse for a conference Microsoft held today, it won't take much for Sony to top it. Other than a couple of high profile titles we've already known Microsoft would be releasing this year (and the "casual" movie game drivel shown for XBL), they don't exactly have much content revealed for the long haul.

Sony has 40 something unannounced titles, you can be we'll be hearing about a few of them tomorrow. There's a whole lot left in Sony's bag.

1:03 - The PS3 and the 360 versions will be released simultaneously in the US and Europe, but not Japan.

Why would it take 18-24 months to localize the japanese verision of FFXIII for the PS3 to english?

Shouldn't it take longer to port the game to the 360?

It just pisses me off. What the fuck is the point of having multiple systems if they all have the same fucking games? There is none! It might not be so bad since they're finishing the PS3 version before they even start porting, but how long will people in the US have to wait because of that?
It's being made on PC...

Yeah, heaven forbid MS goes all out on the only major North American gaming conference & expo of the year. Wouldn't want to see all that content at once!

sweet!

2 more years of e3 awesomeness!

You save some announcements for later. :)

Plenty to talk about at E3 this year already.

It's just an expression. But yeah, there's other stuff to look forward to.

Whee!

That load was already blown. But hey, at least the two-disc thing isn't an issue anymore :D

Sony could make me marginally happy by announcing they're putting a stop to forced installs from here out. Otherwise I'll never own the real GT5 cause ya know that will have an install. -_-

netflix and the avatar crap was rumored, but a new portal exclusively on xbla with most of there AAA games being slated this year is reason enough to be hype.

Yeah, the leaks didn't help. :lol

But I'm glad we don't show/announce everything at E3.

The damage has been done.

Alan Wake constitutes as MS' whole 'wad'?

Exclusive wise? Just about. And even then it's a new IP that no one really knows about. I think the wad he's talking about would be the one thrown out to high profile games to buy exclusive time launch windows (like RB2) or just so the game shows up on their machine (FFXIII). But, it works.

Sony does need to have a big show tomorrow. They more likely than not knew about the FFXIII debacle, so they had more than enough time to put their eggs in a row. They still have the best exclusive first-party titles on their hands yet, which is a plus in this day and age of port-o-rama's. They need to show them off like no tomorrow. GT5 in it's updated form, KZ2 is the most remarkable looking game seen to date, Uncharted 2 would go over well, R2 will do nothing but good for them, maybe a Twisted Metal PSN game, LBP... They show off God of War 3, and if this MAG is made by Zipper, and it's all it's supposed to be, that will be HUGE with the hardcore. Question is, is that game the "big surprise" that people are saying will be at the show, or is it something else?

They're getting hammered with RPG's though, considering last gen they were king. It's not surprising for SE to jump ship though, nintendo fans will tell you about that. Though, this time it's not from hardware capabilities as the reason, it's hardware sales.

If they didn't already, you can bet that someone at Sony is phoning Rockstar right now asking for them to send something, anything of their PS3 exclusive over for them to show tomorrow.

Apart from their R* exclusive being white hot super cool I don't really see what else Sony have with the same headline grabbing sensationalism.

But let's put aside this talk of 'winning E3' for now. I'm sure Sony are going to have a great conference tomorrow.

Especially as they have no choice now.

I can imagine MS really gunning for Sony this year. In fact, if MS were smart they would time their HALO... whatever and Forza 3 announcements to coincide with Sony's press conference.

MS looking to choke out Sony and E3 has barely begun. Who'd have thunk it?

MS going after Sony aggressively could have been predicted a long time ago.

Sony said no to MS developing the PS2 OS.

Sony selling 100+ million PS2's and detailing plans for PS3.

Sony putting Linux on the PS3.

Now Sony seems to be integrating Google into the system.

The PS3 is the biggest middle finger to Microsoft's platform that ever existed. No wonder they want it wiped off the map.

this will never happen, especially since they won in that "matter" over microsoft - look at their "new features" full installations as well. for the future - console gaming will marry pc gaming
and becoming the same shit

Live gameplay demo? Possible release date? OMFG?

No.

"We're ready to start making it now."

Wow, even mods are geeking out right now.

It's over, period. Sony lost their last ace, and that's the end of their PS3 hopes and dreams.

It's not hyperbole, it's not fanboy drivel. It is LITERALLY it for PS3. Sony has nothing left, nothing they can reveal tomorrow would fix the hole now created. There is no reason left for any one, hardcore or casual, to substantively invest in a PS3. Except if they want to play MGS4. Which will also come to 360 at some point.

The age of Sony is done.

:lol :lol :lol :lol

Wow, the only thing that Sony can up against MS is probably FF7remake announcement....

Why do people keep posting this? Where is the logic in this?

If Square didn't think FF13 was financially viable on just the PS3, why would they do another exclusive? How is FF7 more viable than 13?

If whoever is talking say something along the lines of "Its all about the game" I hope the audience boos them or just give them the silent treatment. It happened for Microsoft's conference too until the FFXIII stuff :lol

anyways. Imagine Wada being there tomorrow for Sony :lol

FF13's a bit of a bummer, Sony need to learn how to LOCK SHIT UP, but eh, i havnt completed a FF since 9 :lol and i have grown out of RPG's me thinks...... but yeh having the exclusive would have been good for the system, sucks for fans that now they have to wait till the 360 version of the game is made before they can play it on any system.

Better be some fireworks, most the of MS stuff seems pretty cool until you read into it so it should be to hard to trump.

Hi Bryan.

So the biggest announcement was something that I as a PS3 will have also.? No I am absolutely not crying. I would be crying if they showed new IP's That I would not be able to play. If multiplatform is the biggest news then as a PS3 I am ok with that.

Do not want. FF7 was for the most part a pretty light-hearted game. Now look at its prequels/sequels. Nothing but grimdark crap! Square does not know what made FF7 great.
