but don't worry, Sony have something up their sleeve and yes like the FFXIII exclusive, it will also be an illusion.
time for sony to do a nintendo and announce a ram expansion pack since they just lost their square exclusives and have just released rumble for their controller. oh and a ps3dd while they are at it. maybe a virtualpsp in full 3d but only displays in one colour (probably brown)to top things off.
PS3 is the new nintendo64

They've gotta at least us throw us PS3 jRPG fans a bone. I'm not even talking about being butthurt about losing FFXIII exclusivity. I just wanna get at least ONE freakin' decent jRPG on the PS3 this year.
Valkyria looks cool on all, but I've always preferred jRPG's with the classical turn based combat.

I'm sure Square put the pricetag on the exclusive, and Sony didn't see it viable enough to go for it.

kevm3 said:They really should just change the name to Disappointmentstation 3. I've sat and put up with Sony enough. Still bought it despite the 500 price tag. Stuck with it despite no real compelling games at the beginning of its life cycle. Stuck with it when 'once exclusives' like DMC and Assassins Creed released on the same time as the 360.
They've lost virtually every big 3rd party exclusive except MGS4, and I'm pretty sure that, as well as Tekken, will be headed towards 360 eventually. In their stead, we get awesome 3rd party exclusives such as Genji and Lair. Oh yeah, great use of cash in developing a garden simulator and a tech demo with a flying dog Sony! Awesome business moves Sony... and we're still getting delayed ports which are either inferior or barely superior over a year into the PS3's lifecycle. Delaystation 3! This is incompetence!

jonabbey said:That's not an analogous case, though. MS advanced (not paid) Rockstar $50 million for DLC coming "some time down the road". The analogous case is the sales boost that Sony will have to show in June for MGS4 exclusively on their platform.
Fingers crossed for Sony tomorrow. They just got to the point with XMB and Trophies that they were close to what Microsoft had at the launch of the 360, and now Microsoft is completely revamping their interface and adding Miis.
Sony has to put pressure on if they ever want to do anything more than play catch up on anything other than Blu-Ray movie playback.
Nowhere that bad (would be if they completely lost FFXIII like Toshiba lost Warner) but it does put them in an awkward position as far as their presentation goes - especially if they didn't know about this beforehand.Azrael said:Sony E3 '08 = Toshiba CES '08.

I think marketing plays big role. If MS let go FF13 release like GTA IV, nothing will change.chubigans said:I honestly wonder if GTAIV had a hand in this. jonabbey said:Not tomorrow, it won't. They'd have to have done like Microsoft and got the word out into the channel for a price cut stat, or else announcing it at E3 will kill sales.
Sony needs to keep cost reducing the PS3, and an announcement of a PS3 slim(er) would go great, but I can't imagine how they'd be able to keep that a secret.
I'd hope so, for Sony's conference sake. It would be pretty bad if they had FFXIII planned prominently on their conference for example.chubigans said:Oh, they absolutely knew beforehand. You better believe Square took this to Sony to see what they'd do about it. Apparently, nothing.![]()
Both of those game have had minimal impact on hardware sales, if any. DQ is a tossup as it's on a totally different platform. So, I'm not exactly understanding your point.kevm3 said:So you wouldn't expect more after spending half a grand on a videogame machine? Yeah, let's just lower our expectations more after dealing with constant disappointment from Sony this generation.
These are some of the bigger exclusives that Sony either lost full or time exclusivity on:
DMC4
Star Ocean
Final Fantasy 13
GTA 4
Dragon Quest 9
and this is no big deal to you?

andydumi said:Incorrect. They said they wont start working on the 360 until the US localization of the game is done. In other words, finish it on PS3 in Japan and US and EU, then do a straight port of a finished product.
Which is how the 360 version will be released simultaneously in US/EU, as the localizations will be finished. But not the same day as on the PS3 versions.

1:01 - They are "ready to start" developing FF XIII. So first they will complete the PS3 version in Japan, then start a localization for the US and Europe while they start development on the 360 version.
1:03 - The PS3 and the 360 versions will be released simultaneously in the US and Europe, but not Japan.
I think they will always be behind in some of the features, and they always can have being a free service as an excuse. In case of X360 interface revamp, I think PS3 already has that kind of clean look going on with XMB and they shouldn't bother changing it - and they also have Avatar/Community aspect well covered with Home.jonabbey said:Fingers crossed for Sony tomorrow. A toaster peripheral could make up the entirety of Sony's conference and people would walk away with the same impact.
