The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim |OT2| Team Edward's Revenge

Would you guys say this game has much replay value?

The Storm Cloaks seem like a generally xenophobic, unlikable bunch so I'm not sure how appealing it is to go down that path, and would probably side with the Imperials anyway.

Similarly the character race I've chosen doesn't seem to have much impact? Maybe it's because I stupidly chose to play as a (very ugly) Wood Elf (with a terrible name, why can't I change these things? agh!) but I don't find the race specific stuff to really effect the gameplay that much, nor the storyline.

Cheers

It only has minor impact. I think the bulk of the replay value would be in using different characters to do different stuff, but for people who try to do everything with one character I can see how that wouldn't work.

For instance, I still haven't even touched the Companions yet, been too busy with other games. I'm going to roll a new character soon just to get that out of the way and then probably wait for DLC.

So I have not updated this game yet. I was wondering if the game is now more stable fully updated than it is out of the box. Went back to college and could not keep up with the whole low-FPS dilemma. Any advice?

The 1.4 update is pretty good and if you have a decent CPU you'll get a fairly large increase in perf. Avoid the 1.5 patch though.

I think it depends largely on how you play the game the first time. If you roleplay it pretty hard, don't attempt to do everything, and stick to a gameplay-style archetype (warrior, caster, or thief) then I think it could support a great replay. If you're into exploring and completionism, though, I'd lean towards no.

I think an interesting goal for a mod-creator would be an archetype mod where at the start of the game you pick your class and alignment (good or evil) and any quests that conflict with that choice are stripped out of the game. Like a Good Wizard couldn't join the thieves guild, Companions, or Dark Brotherhood, couldn't start some of the Daedra quests, etc. Add in a Bash Lock and Unlock spell so that wizards and warriors aren't using lockpicks. Maybe make regions of the map class/alignment deadly, so parts of the map would be completely off limits unless you got shuttled in.

Yeah I would definitely appreciate something like this. Being able to "turn off" being Dragonborn for a thief character, or being able to explicitly keep my character "good" would be very nice. On my main questline, Nord character I have already accidentally stolen an "unusual gem" that I can't take out of my inventory without joining the Thieves Guild, and I also joined the Mages College during one of the main missions when I don't think I had to.

Thanks for the responses guys, I'm certainly trying to do practically every single quest I can, and even the ones I'd rather not do (ie a certain quest relating to a lighthouse!) I do anyway simply because I want to experience everything.

Ahh, you're getting my hopes up...

They need to get a move on. They need at least a very large, or a couple medium sized DLC's for the GOTY edition...

I was really hoping for a nice big one. I'd be quite willing to put down $30 for a proper expansion similar to Shivering Isles.

That seems to be the direction they're going in. IIRC we had horse armor and other smaller bits of nothing at this point in Oblivion's life-cycle, but they're still working on the big chunks. I'll be shocked if we get anything substantial any earlier than late summer, IIRC Shivering Isles took a full year.

At least the DLC teams aren't fragmented like before and can focus.

Why avoid the 1.5 patch? I just updated the other night when I played for the first time in a month or so, seemed to work fine to me?

When is this game getting some DLC? I need it! I haven't played in a while, but am itching to get back into the world.

Same for me. It was an amazing experience, doing all the quest lines. Dark Brotherhood trumped all. That was like one of the most crazy awesome gaming experiences in my life. The actual main quest is crap in a toilet compared to it.

If they make a new content package, it would be amazing if you got to see new lands(cyrodil, morrowind, daggerfall.. or something else) but then be able to go back into skyrim world, but not be the dragonborn. just a regular guy who can explore the world without having that main quest.

the world is humongus and there are lots of side quests i didnt do that i perhaps could have fun doing if i had initiative to go back. but all the main stuff has little replay value.

is it true that they added the kill cam feature from fallout 3 in a recent patch?

Is patch 1.5 up on the PS3 yet? (can't check right now)

Me and the other half want to start a fresh game together. I've tried magic and stealth fairly far into the game (not completed the game, but at least done all magic school/all thief & assassin on respected chars), I guess it's now time to go brute force (1h/shield or 2h). Which is more satisfying?

Ahhh.... so excited to boot up the 360 and finally get back into this fantastic game world. After my projector exploded, these last few months have been difficult. :(

This might seem like an odd question. But are there any questlines in Skyrim that are considered "must play" for the game? I'm playing Skyrim and enjoying it (done the mages college quest line and half of so of the main story along with some random side quests), but it just too dang big and I know that I'm not going to have time for them all. Dark Brotherhood? Companions? The war? Thieves? Bards?

I'd say the most satisfying style is using nothing but fists. Look up "skyrim unarmed badass Viking" on YouTube

LOL, watched that.

Even although the stat min/max videos and what not show going light armour is better than heavy, I think I'll ignore the internet completely on my next playthrough, go Nord, get heavy armour/shield and just enjoy the game.

Most likely get some 2h action and bow on the go as well.

Think I'll keep magic strictly to alteration (at least perk wise).

I'd say the main quest and the Dark Brotherhood. There's no obvious standout questline as the DB was in Oblivion, though. But the main quest has some nice sequences, story elements and shouts tied to it, and takes you to Blackreach which alone makes it a must-play. Outside of the main quest, the only ones I found weak are the Bard's College and the Companions; the rest are okay, but not spectacular.

While not a formal questline, I suggest the Daedric quests. Some of the most entertaining in the game.

It depends.

Going Heavy Armor lets you ignore the left half of the Smithing tree. You lose out on glass weapons, but I never found very many of those and by the time they became viable I could easily make Daedric weapons instead.

Also, if you take the Steed Stone then you can ignore the left side of the Heavy Armor tree since the stone gives you the only useful perk on that side.

On one of your first visits to the city of Solitude, you will witness a seemingly random interaction between two people in the streets. The quest line that stems from that is easily my favorite in years. It isn't terribly long, but each section was genuinely interesting.

I read that, looks interesting.

I thought The Lord Stone would be another good choice if I'm playing a heavy/tank like character - http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/The_Lord_Stone

Magic damage packs one hell of a punch against you in Skyrim.

I alwasy pick heavy armor over light armor just because light armors in skyrim are dull looking, for female at least, I have no interest playing as a male character. I love ebony mail and armor.

I've been playing through the game again on PC and I can honestly say I'm not a huge fan of the dungeons in this game. Yet I can't stop playing. Still waiting for some DLC.

Fuck finding the roots of crimson nirnroot. I hate it down there.

Yeah but I just hate the location. Also, whenever I go to that entrance to get down to that area the door seems to be locked so I can't use the elevator. It's very aggrevating.

There are a few entrances and exits to that area but they have to be unlocked from the inside.

Well when I finished the quest that took me there, I ended up in that elevator but didn't find a lever or anything to open the gate so I fast traveled. I could be just blind. I'll have to do it again I guess.

Does anyone know of a mod or tweak that let's you see your characters shadow in 1st person mode?

Ever since I noticed you don't cast a shadow in 1st person I feel like I'm just like a walking ghost. It feels so weird and unnatural not having one. And it makes everything else look weird, like in a "There's something missing... oh wait it's my own shadow" kinda way.

I'm trying out a realistic lighting mod and it's pretty awesome so far. Night is truly fucking dark as it should be, and I need to use candlelight constantly when I'm exploring (or going through dungeons) to be able to (safely) find my way.

Adds some more fun elements to the game and makes me look forward to dungeon crawling a bit more.

Yep. First time I've turned on Skyrim in about a month and that's what greeted me. Disabled all mods and verified the game cache in Steam. No luck. I'm going to blame it on the 1.5 patch.

Oh well, back to KI:U I go...

What graphics hardware are you running, AMD or Nvidia?
