I also finally managed to sync horizontal and vertical mouse sensitivity, things are starting to look much better here.
How? Just please dont tell that via 'interval' command :P

man, I am seeing some nasty texture / geometry issues in the opening scene. If i slowly look down toward the ground, the whole ground switches between 3 texture layers, back again if i look up. entire world objects (ie a banner on a pole) will pop in and out as I look around. there's an event during the intro that causes a lot of post-processing effects / blur, and i don't believe they got properly removed cause my vision stayed messed up a long time. and one time, a dude had a transparent torso.

2500k 4.7 ghz
2x 6950s
4 GB RAM

WTF Bethesda? I'm giving this game a rest until they sort some shit out. Back to Uncharted.

Edit: frame rate is quite good though at 1080p...
Can you disable Crossfire to see if that helps for now?

Make sure your driver is updated and force the oblivion crossfire profile with Radeon Pro and you will be fine.

Thanks a lot; I will try this.

Just one thing... my google skills are failing hard. I got Radeon Pro... where can I get the Oblivion profile?

I added to following lines to the SkyrimPrefs file at the bottom of the controls section:

fMouseHeadingYScale=0.0200
fMouseHeadingXScale=0.0200

works like a charm.

^ will that fix anything if im using the 360 pad

i dunno what it is exactly but it feels weird, changing sensitivity helps a little
but there is still something there making the control feel funny

We have the same systems (8gigs ram though [not that it matters] and my 6950s are @ 880/1300). Have you tried RadeonPro with forcing the Oblivion profile? I find that, plus dropping the shadows to "high," and using 4xSSAA are giving me the best results so far.

Disabled crossfire: no change. I have a save right before the
dragon attack
at the beginning and
its wings
keep popping in and out of existence

I've been trying to find out where to get that profile... I downloaded Radeon pro but i don't see it on their site or in the tool.

Nothing yet about disabling hdr? Google didn't turn up anything.

I've discovered i'm being cpu limited (all four cores around ~95%), but it's still disappointing, given that BF3 generally had similar performance or better while looking far better. Skryim is fluctuating very wildly for me as far as fps is concerned, with probably the least consistent framerate of anything i've played all year.

Also people messing with uGrids, are you having flickering shadows/textures on mountains far in the distance? Any fix to this?

I have this and I haven't even messed with uGrids. Luckily it's only really happening with one set of mountains in particular, in the East.

Within radeonpeo, click on "add new profile," point it towards TESV.exe in the install folder, with the new profile selected, click on the "tweaks" tab, then, in "crossfirex profile," use the drop down box to select "The Elder Scrolls IV:Oblivion." I would then suggest going to the "Visual Tab" and forcing 4xSAA.

Anybody have any discoveries in regards to disabling HDR? Anything that is supposedly shone on by light is blinding.

I am getting some weird flickering of distant objects, textures maybe, when moving in any direction. Any fix for this.
GTX 480

On default ultra settings, fresh ini files with no tweaking.

Hrmm, I'm putting the FOV setting in the General section of Skyrim.ini, but it's not taking effect in game. Anything else I should try that doesn't involve the console?

This game is so weird, when I go outside and need the GPU the most, it only uses 30% of the GPU and game runs at 20fps, so frustrating, forcing the Elder Scrolls 4 CrossfireX profile in RadeonPro does nothing :(

Doesn't work via ini settings yet. Console is your only option.

MrBelmontvedere said:
so, can someone with the game tell me if it takes advantage of quad cores or just dual?

Skyrim's

X:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim

with "x" being whatever drive you installed Steam on, likely C or D.

I have the object fade settings maxed and the object fade or something seems weird.

fTreesMidLODSwitchDist=10000000.0000

Changed a few other things from then OP, but nothing has worked.

An example of what I am having. Walk toward area where I know a bridge is there, get close enough and birdge pops in along with the house's roof changing near it and other rocks mountainside, trees pop in or just flash, hard to tell. But the objects dont fade out when I go backwards they stay no matter how far I go away. Annoying when complete geometry (like a bridge) just pop in.

GTX 480, latest drivers from OP. Ultra default, AA=2, AF=8, distant object detail= ultra

I am getting around 45-55 outdoors so I would take a hit in FPS if I could get this object pop in gone.

Holy crap, for Crossfire users, in radeon pro leave the Force CrossfireX Profile empty and select Alternate Frame REndering as the MVPU mode, DRAMATIC increase in performance.

Breaks ENB series and my characters face flashes a bit but its completly worth it!

I can definitely confirm you still get achievements after changing the FOV in the console. I've changed it multiple times, including minutes before completing a quest and still got the achievement.

Anyone else crashing straight to desktop a lot? It's as if I'm pressing Alt + F4. No lag or freeze up, just game closes immediately. Seems to happen mainly during loads, but I have had it happen twice just standing there.

I cant decide what setting should I use.

2x2 OGSSAA and a lower performance [not that much, but spikes down harder]
http://i.minus.com/1321110203/EZj9J4VI9bObX-EzM8uuRg/ibt7YkAuMCvBjW.png

or 1920x1536@1280x1024 + 4x MSAA and stable 50+ [with rare downs in heavy fucked up dungeons to 40's]
http://i.minus.com/1321110201/GjQS5zRLpfIK_yfFL5NgUg/iVXNiKV6n647o.png

If there was motion blur i would probably go with second option + uGrid mod + some spare resources for texture mods+shadows+god rays in locked 30fps ;p

I went with 9, good compromise and not as hungry
How many FPS did it eat?
Is it affecting dungeons at all? It shouldnt, but we know Bethesda's engines ...

Regarding FoV, this is what I read / tested:
- the .ini entry doesn't work
- the console command does, and it is stored when saving
- using a console command disables achievements for that session

Thus:
- set desired fov using the console
- save
- restart the game and load

Would be the required sequence to get a larger FoV and still earn achievements.

I've tried a) disabling CF, b) using the Oblivion CF profile, and c) using Alternate Frame Rendering as you suggest. In all 3 cases, I load up my save and immediately see the
dargon's wings
flickering in and out.

Surely it's not somehow tied to my save, right? I'm wondering why I have these issues and others with similar setups are not seeing anything so game-breaking...

This has not been my experience. Unless maybe it also counts as a new session when you load a new room? I changed my fov, walked into a room, and completed a quest and got an achievement.

Low end spec represent!

AMD Opteron 165 @ 2.2Ghz (Socket 939!)
4GB Corsair XMS DDR 1
ATI Radeon 4850 512MB
Windows XP x64 / Windows Vista 64-Bit
Latest Drivers / Updates All Around

Ironically enough Skyrim detected my system specs as "Very High". I left all configuration options at this preset. Running with the following config...

1600x1200
No AA - 4X AF
Texture Quality = High
Radial Blur Quality = High
Shadow Detail = Medium
Decal Quantity = Medium
Distant Object Detail = High
iPresentInterval=0

Considering the majority of this system was put together in 2006 (Video Card was 08) I am amazed at how well this runs. I'm a few hours into the game and ive seen dips into the teens, but the majority of the outside adventuring has held a very steady 25-30+ FPS, The cave sections are really great when the game pegs itself around 50FPS! Ive found performance to be slightly better running in XP over Vista. All in all im very happy with how the game has been performing thus far on such low end hardware.

This is the first time since building my gaming PC in April that I've actually felt like there was some merit to the console peasants' arguments against the frustrations involved in PC gaming. I've played about a dozen different PC games since then and they have all been as plug-and-play as any console version.

I built my PC with Skyrim in mind, so this is a bummer. Hopefully ATI/Bethesda/the community will fix all this stuff soon...

Whats really frustrating me is walking around ingame, go into the first major town (Riversomething, want to Riverrun lol) - Bam 24 FPS.

Check how much of my pc is being utilized. Oh great;
Between 40-50% GPU (ati 6870)
Each Core (x4) is about 50-60% (q8300@2.9ghz)

So frustrating that I can run BF3 at a really nice high level and it pushes me to 90%+ on both.
Here I am stuck with a low fps, no matter what I do. Changing settings doesn't help much either. When I'm inside, my fps can be 80+ solidly - outdoors in spots, it gets destroyed.
Optimization seems so bad.

I'll test it again. (it's pretty hard to try it since once you have an achievement you can't just reload and get it again) In any case, it's clear that changing FoV via the console does not disable achievements forever, and that's the main point.

Wait the 'move item' key is still there? I thought I didn't see it in the controls, what is the default on PC?
It's holding the "activate" key (E by default).

Is there an .ini setting to only remove the enemy "red dots" and/or locations from the compass without removing the bare directional compass itself?

Got Skyrim loaded up and I think I'll mostly be sticking with the high settings the game has recommended for me; everything looks sharp and crisp enough for my tastes while the framerate seems to be averaging in the 40-50 fps range. The only gripe I have is that whenever I move my character (even just to look around) there's this visual... flickering? Stuttering? Not really sure what to call it but it's a rather annoying effect that happens whenever things are moving. Anyone had this problem?

Made some test for uGrid, totally not worth performance drop, especially for arenas that arent kilometers long.

Tested on: 1920x1536@1280x1024 + 4x MSAA

Here the difference is bigger, but still not worth the trade off, i'll wait for proper LOD enhance solution :P

--edit--
Added some shots for second comparison

Now talking about ugrid = 7
What is interesting that both give similar performance, lower resolution one has higher FPS spikes, but lows are same, still both in the scene from screen hold 60+ fps and lows goes to 40 rarely, its mostly 50+. I think its good performance tradeoff for gaining some geometry

I (and several others have reported the same thing in this thread) experienced where textures flicker in and out as you move. So in one step the moss texture on a wall will disappear, and the next step it comes back. This also happens on people so like half a person's body becomes see through for a second and then goes back to normal. For me it was REALLY bad during the first half hour of the game, but after I got out of the first area it rarely happened (but did still occasionally occur.)

Someone earlier mentioned he solved the problem by changing the AA from MSAA to SSAA (I assume via his GPU control panel or RadeonPro/Nvidia Inspector). What I did was turned off AA and turned on FXAA and it solved the problem for me (I don't have the power to do SSAA).

I think I'm also going to wait for a proper LOD mod. The Grid tweak is causing my game to crash to desktop whenever it attempts to load a big area, sucks but oh well. I need to play the game more and tweak it less I think!
