The First Descendant Is Ending Support For Last Gen Consoles (PS4/XBO) After Less Than A Year

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

  • The First Descendant is ending support for PS4 and Xbox One to focus on player satisfaction.
  • Last-generation consoles will no longer have access to the game after June 19.
  • Players can continue their progress on other consoles with cross-save functionality.

In a recent developer livestream, The First Descendant team confirmed that support for The First Descendant would be discontinued on PS4 and Xbox One from June 19, two weeks before the game's first anniversary.

It cited the fact that it had "increased the scale" of the game and that the team was spending "a lot of effort and difficulty maintaining the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One builds," for the discontinuation. The team continued by saying, "Since season 3 is a 'mega season' update for us, so we wanted to focus our development team on increasing player satisfaction."

The end-of-life support doesn't just mean that the PS4 version and Xbox One version of the game will receive no further updates; instead, the game will be completely delisted from those platforms, and players will no longer be able to play the game on those consoles. Thankfully, dedicated players on those platforms will be able to take their progress to other consoles with The First Descendant's cross-save functionality.

Why even bother developing that version in the first place? Seems like a waste of resources.

Something that I wisher gamers understood better.

Games take years to develop. You don't know what the circumstances will be especially on a game like this by the time it releases. You have the least amount of information at the beginning of development and the most at the end.

You learn this in agile.

It might not have cost a significant amount to make a previous gen version, but updating the game from now on with the userbase on those systems is probably proving to not be worth it.

I bet 80% or more of their userbase is on current gen.

Lost interest in that game. They seem more interest in releasing one kinky costume after another than developing the game beyond it's scope. Maybe dropping last gen will help, but I fancy it just means more detailed tit physics than anything else. If it's still going in another year, I might give it a look in.

Too bad.
Don't have a PS5/Pro because ridiculous pricing, and won't play on PC because dual spyware DRM.

Nintendo Switch too or just more bullshit about 'performance will get better because we excluse last gen in favor of next gen'.

Its always good to have the last gen version because most of the current gen version runs like shit.
