Waiting on NTGYK reactions to the pilot

Ask and ye shall receive!

Rejoice! For that was fucking awesome! Except I think Veelk did not like it.

Random smattering of thoughts:

Loving Gustin as Barry. He's hilarious and sweet. I can buy this kid will be a hero. Also, he's like my age? so I dunno why I'm calling him a kid.

Wow, Iris friendzoned him so hard that it almost approached Agents of SHIELD levels. The Fastest Man Alive cannot outrun the Friendzone.

Danielle Panabaker is fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine.

I loved Joe being total angry cop and then realizing that superpowers are real, and I felt like he's like "fuuuuuuuuuu- now I gotta apologize for all that shit." I mean, Barry and Iris were just walking around in a random street, how the heck was Barry supposed to know that Weather Wizard (I dunno his name) was gonna come barreling down in an '04 'Stang?

"WHY WOULD GOD NEED TO ROB BANKS"

Cisco is eh.

Okay, so is professor guy good... or bad...? He can't be Reverse Flash, right? Unless he is!

Detective Pretty Boy seems like a nice guy.

I liked Shipp as Barry's dad. That scene at the end was great.

Can't wait for the Rogues.

Iris is definitely the weak link so far. I hope this doesn't become a Clark/Lana thing ala Smallville.

For TV, the effects were great, I think. They really got Flash's speed perfect for a television budget. It looks good. I hope this can be maintained week-to-week.

Clunky dialogue and pacing asides, a great opener. Honestly, I was vehemently against superpowers in the Arrowverse, but done like this, I find it pretty awesome. I guess I just don't like magic. But yeah, great stuff.

Also, I thought the Arrow meets Flash scene was great. The dialogue was clunky, but I liked the sentiment of Barry's hero inspiring him to become an even better hero. Good stuff. When Ollie said 'Cool', I liked that cause it felt like Pre-Island Ollie for a second, just seeing something cool.

LOL MICHAEL WESTON FROM PRISON BREAK IS A BAD GUY ON FLASH

Michael Scofield lol

Michael Scofield lol

You mean him?

Loved the pilot and looking forward to this season and it's crossovers It's better than Gotham already and maybe up there with AoS and Arrow but gotta give it time to see. It appears that DC is running it with the TV show and Marvel's running it with the movies.
To be honest...DC always bas been doing good on TV. They now just moving from good to insanely good

Superheroes just work better in a serialised format.

I mean Arrow spent one full season and eight episodes setting up a tone for Oliver, and then two episodes setting up Barry Allen before he got superpowers. Then has Barry's appearance change things. They didn't meet once, fight, and then part ways until the next team-up film. There's an actual friendship there.

Plus it doesn't hurt that instead of being annoyed by the Trinity restrictions, they've just made their own TV Trinity. Arrow is the dark, mostly non-powered rogues Batman style character, Flash is the lighter, gorilla fighting guy, and I'd guess down the line they'll have a more magically themed female.

Heck, Mary Marvel would be beyond perfect.

Am i the only one getting a distinct Infamous vibe from the story.

Time traveler kills loved female figure of Protagonist, in order to shape him psychologically.
Time Traveler is probably older version of the Protagonist.
Time traveler advances science that gives his younger self a similar power set but at a younger age than he when received them in order to prepare the protagonist for what is coming.
The same event that gives the Protagonist powers, gives other people powers

I'm afraid any love scenes will end in a flash. Poor Barry. ;)
The guy can vibrate through molecules.

I think he'll be okay.

Barry Allen, human symbian.

What were the extra three minutes of footage?

Like I expected, there wasn't really three minutes of extra footage, the pilot just runs a little longer than a typical hour long show these days. They slightly tweaked a few scenes though as shown in the link above.

It's inspired by Flash Rebirth, first issue was published a month or two before Infamous came out but was likely planned out well before that. The person who killed Barry's mother
wasn't an older version of him and certainly won't be in this series
.

I like how it mostly followed Barry. I feel like most shows introduce too many characters at once and split screen time up too much.

Yes and no just for heroes, serialized works a lot better for villains too. There's a reason why majority of superhero movies have weak villains. Heck, the only good one in Marvel is Loki, which we've seen for 3 movies already. Which just shows you need more time than one movie can provide.

Neither Merlyn and especially Slade would work anywhere near as good without so many episodes. And considering how colorful yet well developed Rogues are, it will propably become even more evident in Flash.

I also expect that at least one of Netflix shows will become the best thing Marvel did.

It works even better for villains, you're right.

I mean Deathstroke, for me, is one of the best villain representations ever. Instead of one film, we got one and a half seasons worth of story from him. And the potential of more. And word re: Daredevil...

Kingpin alone demands multiple seasons. Also so pumped that The Flash is all 'Rogues? Immediately.' My favourite supervillains of all time. Cold vs Flash is going to be beyond epic.

Am I the only one that wants to play DC Universe Online now due to hype? It works every time despite me never playing it for long.

I'm optimistic for this show. It was pretty cheesy, but I expected a lighter tone and I do like a lot of the cast and characters themselves, so I can't wait to see where this goes. I never write a show off over a pilot anyway and even Arrow started slow for me but got me hooked a few episodes in.

I'd love to play it again, but the whole 'can't play as DC characters' thing bugs me. Like if they were like Marvel Heroes and brought out a Flash TV show pack? I'd be in that like a shot. Alas.

I thought it was okay.
Fun to watch superpowers being used.

I kind of liked Gotham's unashamed dirty cheese more though. But maybe it's that I don't enjoy "slick" shows very much.

Absolutely.
Barring the quality of the acting and no big chase scenes, as a Batman fan Arrow was more enjoyable than the last 2 Nolan movies combined.
Love interests get the time of day even when dull like Laurel.
sidekicks can be set up.
villains get development, as well as their schemes.
And the hero can develop over years, so much better than all being squeezed into a single movie.

Exactly. It also means they can change tact quickly based on what's working. No way would Felicity/Diggle be key roles if Arrow was conceived as a film first.

23 episodes x 45 minutes = about 17 hours.

Ain't nobody got time for that

Yes, but time is relative. I'm sure you enjoy writing long posts. I enjoy reading your long posts. It doesn't seem like a chore.

I really don't see either Arrow, nor The Flash (after one episode) as a step back for female characters, as you imply. Felicity is more than a damsel in distress. In fact, the writers of Arrow even played with that trope in the Season 2 finale, turning it on its head a bit by having
Felicity pose as the damsel to be saved, only to have her be part of a trap for Slade.

I guess I can see where if you dislike Arrow, The Flash is already sending bad vibes, but I'm watching both shows, and enjoying them quite a bit.

Just watched the first episode. My younger, comic book geek self was doing cartwheels the entire way through. I seriously think this is the first time they've gotten a show with "super powers" right on TV. Heroes definitely wasn't it and neither was Smallville. It seriously kept giving me that same sense of awe, wonder and fun that the 2002 Spider-Man movie did.

That Green Arrow/Flash scene was extra corny.

I watched the show after reading this comment, and I was expecting some ultra cheese. It never happened. You do realize that Oliver is also supposed to be a human being as well right? He can't be all dark and broody 100% of the time. Come on. I felt like it was actually a great scene that showed a side you almost never get to see on Arrow.

Good pilot. I enjoyed it more than I did the pilot and most of season 1 of Arrow. I think Barry is great and most of the supporting cast is good too. I enjoy the cheese but the Arrow cross over was cheese overload.

The effects are completely terrible though. I like the flash running as an actual flash, I hate the close ups of him running and I thought most of the other effects just looked bad. That happens when you have super powers on live action tv though, I guess.

All in all, it was an enjoyable ep. Look forward to seeing how they improve it.

I interpreted the crossover scene as shown from Barry's viewpoint, who's totally Oliver's biggest fan. Taken like that it all makes perfect sense. :D

Hopefully we can see the scene from the opposite perspective.

DIGGLE: Oliver, Barry Allen called.
OLIVER: Why?
DIGGLE: He says he has super speed.
OLIVER: ...
DIGGLE: Oliver, what happened on the island this time?

Wells is a time traveller?

Well, it's obvious that he's Mazdan. Or Abra Cadabra. Or Booster Gold. Or Iris's real father from the 30th century come back to see how she's growing up in our time.

Going to rewatch the pilot today since I was at work while it was on yesterday and then Arrow is on later so today is going to be perfect.

seasons are 22 for hour long shows the only time they are 23 are for backdoor pilots.

Arrow was suppose to have a back door pilot for episode 17/18 but CW loved how grant was during the filming and just decided to turn him into the flash during arrow.

Vampire diaries in season 4 had the backdoor pilot for the originals

and supernatural had the failed spinoff

I've already seen the pilot but watched it again anyway.

I pretty much guessed who the professor fella is even before the reveal. But maybe it'll go in a different direction.

Other thoughts: It was an extremely well done pilot and I'm definitely sticking with the show.
