the delivery of "you could've had everything you've ever wanted!" was pretty amazing. The one time he's shown just absolute rage

This is my take. I don't get the praise here. I can only assume this is sticking close to the comics or something and it's all some sort of big fan service. But to me this episode was just....dumb. Barry is dumb for every decision he made in this episode. Everyone else is dumb for allowing it.
Supporting this. Maybe one DCTV in Communtiy where all spoilers and news can get posted freely and one in Off-Topic so newbies can enter and communicate safely. So we have this discussion in the Arrow thread, but The Flash seems to be nearing it sooner
What do you folks want to do for an off-shoot/off-season thread?
I think the working theory right now is probably a DCTV Thread that would be in OT Community.

Also a ban on Olicity in the open Off-Topic Thread, so newbies don't run away or get punched in the daily brawl.
Fantastic finale and an amazing season overall. Will be interesting to see how the show copes without Cavanaugh going forward.
Just subscribe to it. And you could still use the OT one with propler spoiler tagging.idk man, I tend to forget about Community threada quickly. Maybe a DCTV News thread for Off Topic would be better.

Yep Cavanagh killed it just like he has the entire season. He's gotten to play many different variations of the same character and it seems he'll get to do another next season.
Because things just happen. And it could be terrible to mess with time in any way. You know the saying: the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few and the needs of the few outweighs the needs of the french. When he went back, why did older Flash shake his head as if to say "Let mom die" ?
Because when he was younger he saw himself do that. So he's just repeating what he saw. Basically, he can't think for himself. When he went back, why did older Flash shake his head as if to say "Let mom die" ?

I just finished it on DVR and I want to address some plotholes I caught and if they can be answered.
1. Eobard is now imprisoned in STAR Lab's all-purpose, all-superpower-proof cells even though he can phase through any matter. I assume the cells are made of this universe's unobtanium? Can't it be used to defeat metahumans without the Flash learning a new ability every episode?
2. Eobard has screwed with the past at least 3 times to make things right for him even though the only reason is because he becomes enemies with the Flash. Why not just never travel back in time and never meet Barry? Do they become enemies in the near future (circa 2024) or Eobard's future (2100s)?
3. Apparently Mach 2 is the confirmed speed Barry needs to travel to go back in time by creating a wormhole. Where to begin? That makes about as much sense as a plutonium-powered DeLorean having to go a mere 88 MPH to time travel. I don't know what properties Barry has that gives him this magic ability at that particular speed, but we've had aircraft capable of greater than Mach 2 for decades and you don't see space shuttles opening up wormholes.
3.5. Continuing from the last point, Barry must have traveled M2 before since he's already time traveled, so either Caitlin is mistaken or the circumstances of that way of TTing were different from the new way.
4. So how did they invent Wells' time machine? Did Cisco build it in their spare time of, what, 3 days? That kid is an underrated supergenius.
Not a plothole but my DVR stopped right when Barry's dad saw the building collapse. What happened next? Judging from reactions that basically was the end.
What was the helmet/ metal thing that came out of the wormhole which prompted Wells/Eobard to say"that's my cue to leave"?
I'm not sure those cells could hold him. I think part of the reason the crew decided to let him go back to his own time was because they weren't sure if they could hold him either1. They said that Eobard already built the parts and they just need to assemble it4. So how did they invent Wells' time machine? Did Cisco build it in their spare time of, what, 3 days? That kid is an underrated supergenius. What happened next? Judging from reactions that basically was the end.

Easy answer: because that's not Original Timeline Flash, that's "Barry saves his mom" timeline Flash, and things go badly sideways for some reason. So he's like "just no, man."

I assume it was the injection of the hydrogen particle and the subsequent collision at Mach 2 that triggered the wormhole opening, maybe we'll see Barry enter the speedforce later on by himself when he travels at light speed.
God, I hope.

I could see Eddie returning as The Black Flash, a shadowy specter of death ejected from... beyond.

I can half accept that. But, even the speed force(that doesn't have to explain anything) adheres to simple sci-fi time logic.
There's no such thing as time paradoxes in The Flash. Just speed force explanations.
Again if he's anything like Tommy I don't see them sabotaging his heroic character moment by making him a villain later. They'll respect his actions.
They'll respect Eddie's actions, but if forces beyond our reality twist what's left of him into a shadowy specter, how is that sabotaging his character?
Either he could come back as a new Reverse Flash who is 'dedicated' to making Flash a better hero or he comes back as a grim reaper sort who is haunting Flash.
I mean maybe Black Flash but I don't think they'd make him conscious of what he's doing.
Really don't see him going the Zoom route either at this point. There's no precedent for it. Unlike Hunter he willing chose to die. There's no resentment there.
Maybe some nefarious force possesses his body to become the Black Flash. That'd be cool, allows Cosnett to play something else.
I found it oddly endearing that Reverse Flash asked CIsco for help when Eddie shot himself.
