He was two times on the podium last year, and made second on the Williams the first race in Singapore, when Alonso won with the crashgate.
He's a good driver and certainly showed potential in his rookie season, but his progress has stagnated. He seems stuck in the second tier of drivers and hasn't really shown enough to make the kind of leap Jenson made after his world title.

A bit like Nick Heidfeld, imo.

But we should talk a bit about Felipe.

I know he had a hard time and the car isn't perfect, but he is currently 6th in the WDC, with a huge gap behind his best friend Hamilton (90 vs 178 points). After 15 races, his best position was 5th place and he managed to out-qualify his teammate only three times.

Why is he still driving this car? Why is he getting paid €10M to drive this car? Why is he allowed to drive in a Ferrari for another year? It's just ridiculous.

Because he'll play lap dog to Alonso, whereas another driver would be far less willing to make that sacrifice. Ferrari also think they can recapture the glory of the Schumacher/Barrichello era by replicating that ideal (dominant driver/subservient driver). It's not really the drivers that are the issue though, it's the whole team, starting at the very top with Stefano.

It's depressing to see Massa let Alonso fly by, be used as a way of slingshotting him in qualifying etc.

Ferarri have broken his spirit.

They're basically the complete opposite of McLaren at this point. Just utter cretins.

You nailed my thoughts.

It will be interesting to see how 'different' will be their 2012 car.
I still think that they made mistake with sacking Aldo Costa aka next Rory Byrne

I think it was Brundle that highlighted the issue quite well a few races back; because Ferrari is situated in Italy, there's a much smaller 'pool' of engineering talent to chose from in comparison to the nine teams based in the UK. If Ferrari wanted Sam Michaels for example, he would have had to move to Italy, whereas his move to McLaren probably just means he'll buy a second house/move/hotel.

Their driver line-up is almost perfect. Alonso is still without doubt still in the top three drivers (this year the top three being Vettel, Button & Alonso imo) with a car that can only be described as lacklustre. Massa is a problem though, maybe once or twice a season he'll have a half-decent race, otherwise it would appear he's more dead weight than Reubens was. At least Reubens could win races.

Same with DC & Mika, at least DC could win races. Heck, even Fisi got pole & won Monaco in 2005 or 2006.

Maybe I got the wrong impression this season, but shouldn't a lap dog always be there to defend his master? After Turkey, he always finished way behind Alonso and didn't do much to help him, unlike the Schumacher/Barichello or the Mika/David duo.

e: Kinda beaten by a Pony. Damn.

Webber and Michael at Mercedes... that's actually a very good driver pairing. They would compliment each other very well.
This is something I could see working. I guess it's possible that 2012 may not have to be his last year in F1.

Finally got around to watching the BBC Forum. Vettel is such a great guy it is ridiculous. When he got emotional when they showed the video of the previous back to back world champions that was great.

Rumour: Lazenby lined-up to be Sky F1 anchor

tWDaB.jpg

With just four races left this term Sky Sports are busy putting together their F1 team for 2012.

Although Martin Brundle has been non-committal on his whereabouts next year, Sky Sports’ Formula One executive producer Martin Turner is very keen to tie BBC's lead commentator down to a mega-bucks deal.

Turner also wants Simon Lazenby to front the network’s coverage.

While Sky Sports News presenter Georgie Thompson has been mooted as a possible option, Turner, who worked with Lazenby during his time in rugby, wants to take him across to F1.

It is also worth noting that Lazenby has recently changed his alias on Twitter from @LazenbyRugby to @SimonLazenbySky.

Absolutely amazing opinion.
Alonso went for a race pace set up. he was right on the back of Massa, was going to pass anyways and Massa left the door open for him. Alonso then dissappeared up the road.
Its not like Massa was stuck on his gearbox matching him for pace.

Massa IS the number 2 driver and not because he is contracted to be so, he just didnt make up the numbers at the decision point in the season, he is simply MUCH slower than Alonso.
So yes, he should be helping the lead driver as a tow truck and leaving him to enjoy his much faster pace, if he is behind.

I didnt see anyone screaming their heads off at Force India when they made a leading driver move over for the faster driver....

On my server I just uploaded the latest Racecar Engineering magazine. For non Engineers or car guys some of it might be a hard read. But I highly recommend reading it, very good issue. 2012 F1 stuff in it too.

I was under the impression (based on what a BBC exec said months ago), that the commentary team would be shared between Sky and BBC, so quite how Sky could get a 'mega bucks' exclusivity deal with Brundle, I'm not sure.

Unless that's all changed, of course. A shared team certainly would complicate things.

I have no fucking clue. My google-fu is weak as hell today.
Maybe they mean drivers who drove for RBR at some stage in their career. Is it possible that two of those drivers listed could've scored a DNF in the same race while only one was racing for RBR?

Official RBR site mentions that Korea 2010 is their only double DNF... weird.
Yep

Maybe.

I haven't looked at more recent cars/years, but this indicates one for Klein and Coulthard.

Edit: Found it. You'll need to double-check, but doesn't look like there were any more dual DNFs for RBR after Melbourne in '08 until Korea. Coulthard and Webber driving.

Nah. Just better than you ;)

I should actually enter that F1 league thingy wherever it's run... next year. Looks like a fair whack of fun.
Hey, you just calm down there son. You may be better than me at a few select things, but that by no means leads to a presumption of general superiority!! ;)

But yeah, it is pretty fun, even if I suck at it.
