Of course it's not 100% safe, they still take more safety precautions than most other autosports and that makes a lot of difference.

Massa's was a freak accident, and if it happened again today he would walk out fine. And that's because people looked at the old helmet and improved it, instead of simply accepting that this is a dangerous sport.
Yeah, I think Jake talked about the improvements that were made after the incident. I was a bit surprised that such a flaw existed, tbh.

Will they bring some cows on the track?

That'd make Jeremy Clarkson a very happy man.

Do you think you can find a video of it? I've looked on YouTube with no luck.

webber to mclaren, hamilton to red bull would be amazing to watch.

part of me wants vettel to dominate 2012, but id rather watch a season where they have to fight for each win in stead of dominating it from pole.

I'm sure they could get it small enough quite quickly if they wanted to.

Awesome camera. I want it ASAP too. I love the t-cam view and don't want it to go away, but that's equally as cool to see.

Looks finished. Only needs some finishing touches.

Enormous amount of smog though.

I did like 5 laps online, so it's hardly an indication of whether or not I would have more fun playing it if the game wasn't so broke!

The elevation changes were pretty cool. F1 needs more of that.

Brundle's thoughts on Korea. I completely agree with him - I was on the edge of my seat throughout. Shit track, great race.
I dont get this Korea hate. Do people mean the location & look of the track? or do you mean the actual layout?
On gaf all i hear is people complain about it.

But yet all weekend I was hearing about how much the drivers love this track + last years race was brilliant (because of the rain) and so was this years. Even Bundle said that its probably Tilke's best track.

So do you just hate it cause its in the middle of a swamp & looks a bit rubbish?

Personally, yeah. It has no personality. It's quite fun to drive, but a track needs more than a good layout IMO.

It's needs character.
But surely layout is the most important thing?
So many new tracks have terrible layouts (Valencia, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain) no amount of character can save those, I think we should be happy with Korea. In a few years it could be awesome as they got the most important part right.

For the future the layout means nothing, Korea needs to appeal to the locals in order to start earning back some money otherwise they won't be able to afford the fees to extend their contract, much like Turkey.

When the turbocharged V6 engines appear, how different will the speed of the vehicles be?

Obviously no one can say for sure yet, but I'm just curious to hear from someone who understands these things better than myself.

Terrible wreck in IndyCar. Very sad to see, RIP.

Korea race was good, I enjoyed watching Lewis and Mark battle. Awesome when Mark sprayed down the business men on the podium. They obviously didn't do their homework in watching other podiums when they all run off the stage quickly to avoid it.

They wont be much slower if at all. The engineers will use their mysterious powers to make the cars go even faster yet (The cars this year are quicker than last year, and that's without the double diffuser, mostly anyway) don't forget that the FIA is changing KERS and such so that drivers will get more power out of KERS than they do now.

RIP Dan Wheldon, that was a crazy, crazy crash.

India is actually looking pretty nice and finished at the moment. But what will happen if the track is covered in thick smog on the Sunday?

The cars may well be 5 seconds a lap slower than current cars, in GP2 territory. They're expecting to claw this back though so they may end up a few seconds off by 2015/2016.

If the racing is great, then I'm not too bothered with how quick the cars go.

Although I will never forget 2004.

Very interesting to hear what he had to say on the subject.

I'm pretty late on this but Mark said before Japan
By the time you've got through all that, it feels like you've done the equivalent of about eight laps of Bahrain before you've even done one sector of Suzuka.

Well, Spa is definitely a cool dude!

Monaco is the girl everyone wants to go out with.

Of course layout is important.

The tracks I like have a great layout AND character, though. Standards are high. Korea falls short of those standards.

I love the 80's where they were turning up their boost to 80PSI for qualifying. Engines could only last a few laps at that point.

So why do people love Monaco? Spa?

Yeah, they're great tracks to drive on, but it's more than that. In Monaco you're going through the streets, the buildings tower above you, the boats are parked alongside the track, you go through the amazing tunnel. Spa is a great trek through the forest with the Belgium vista in the background.

Having great corners and straights is one thing. Having great corners and straights in a beautiful location, with a passionate crowd, etc etc is something entirely different.

If you deny that then you're the fool, sir.

Well of course history has a lot to do with the personality/character/whatever you want to call it of a track, but it gained that history because it had unique/impreesive features to begin with (the streets of Monaco and natural beauty of Spa being two good examples of that).

And yes, challenge is part of a good track layout, among other things.

In time as they build up buildings etc Korea it could gain that character, of course.

Spa would be an amazing track no matter where it was built!
But Monaco would not be the same

Circuits NEED character to be successful in the eyes of the fans and the broadcasters. It's not hard to see really.

Look at Singapore. It's a shit circuit. We have all raced it on F1 2010/2011, the drivers moan about the triple chicane - but everyone loves it for the ambiance thrown by the organisers, and it shows with the excitement in the crowds and the pundits. Being a night race helps, but damn you can't deny the way the race is held raises it's elevation as a great addition to the F1 calendar.

If there is a single empty seat in India I'll be so angry. Pay some of the BILLION people in your country to come watch the race and fill a seat FFS.

So not too much of a difference then! I'm sure the F1 engineers will match (and maybe go beyond) what we have now, even if it takes a few years.

Also speaking of memorable tracks, it's such a huge shame what happened to Hockenheimring.

It's such a shame it'll never go back to how it was pre-2001. :(

I've just done 15 laps of India on 2011.

My opinion now?

I want to do 15 more. SO fun to drive. In fact, I might just run out the clock in this practice session I'm enjoying it so much. Reminds me a lot of Melbourne and Canada, two of my favourite tracks. Bit of Catalunya in there, as well.

I'm flying around now.

I just finished a couple laps of India in 2011 as well. I only did 3 laps so I didn't give it a proper go but I was actually rather indifferent to it. I was off the pace and missing some corners (T7 mostly).
