Public and private pressure from sponsors has forced the FIA's hand and the Bahrain GP has been cancelled for 2011.

The FIA inspection report was leaked this morning so that probably also played a part.

Paul Ricard to alternate with Spa from 2013 onwards according to this.

Alternating bewteen a GP of Belgium and a GP of France is ridiculous, stupid middle east races no one gives 2 shits about.

Fuck sake!! Probably going to be more common from now on as the FIA push towards more races in "emerging markets"

I think it's more of a case that the Spa organisers are almost making loses from each GP. No body turns up to Spa compared to the likes of Silverstone.

It's a shame either way, but at least the Bah'rain GP is cancelled! Woot! :D

Downside : No Spa every year
Upside : Paul Ricard is 2h30min away from my town

I see you speak about RU, mclaren. Anybody would have an invite by any chance ?

So now that bahrain is gone, is the indian gp going back to its original slot?

Yeah looks like. It could look like South Korea last year with barely finished track and unfinished landscaping & facilities.

Ridiculous it took sponsors to ensure the right decision was reached.

Paul Ricard is owned by Excelis, a company owned by Greedy. Also it has artificial rain system already installed on some parts of the track (Paul Ricard is mainly test track, so they are playing with stuff like that).

Yeah, I know. I actually don't mind Ricard as a circuit, but any calendar without Spa is a travesty. Make Valencia alternate.

I wonder if that means the FIA will have to pay a fee or give Bahrain its money back.

I'm fine with that, though I'd have rather seen Paul Ricard simply replace a circuit like Monza or Spain.

Speed. Last year the Canadian GP was broadcast on whatever your local Fox affiliate was but I don't know if they're doing that this year.

I thought that was a great interview and I found his joke to be quite funny.

Refreshing to hear someone talk straight from the heart is what I thought when watching that interview

Can anyone explain why the Murray Walker documentary isn't on the iPlayer?

God dammit BBC!
The FOM are picky with their archive footage, the same thing happened with that Top Gear episode featuring the Senna segment. That part was cut for the subsequent repeats apart from the first repeat showing.

Just back from seeing the Senna film. Absolutely stunning film, you HAVE to see it.
Doesn't matter if you aren't a fan of motorsport, everyone HAS to see this.
Not afraid to say I shed a few tears at the end of the film.

They are so many people to love & hate in this film:
Ron Dennis is a hero in my eyes after seeing this.
Professor Sid Watkins is a hero & friend/confidant of Senna
Alain Prost is a meh.
Jean-Marie Balestre, head of FIA, is absolute scum.

The video cuts, music & on-board footage work really well.
The film shows a huge amount of video from the Imola weekend I had never seen from the history of the 1994 Williams car & its balance issues to the the tension that Senna was under & then the Rubens & Roland crashes.
It has on-board footage of the Imola race after the safety car pulls off until the moment Senna crashed into the wall. Sid Watkins describing the scene is heart-breaking stuff.

Probably not great news for those wanting to see the Red Bull hauled back in though. I'm imagining the lower speeds will suit them.

Thank you for the review, was eager to see it, more so now.

Still interesting to see Aston Martin sticking with the open-cockpit design when Audi basically said it was pointless now.

I loved the Audi R10 TDI, but basically because I really liked the open cockpit design. Was there a benefit to it before?

Benefits to the open cockpit design? Sure. It's easier for the driver to see everything, the driver doesn't have to worry about the windscreen getting dirty (tearoffs ftw) and driver changes are much quicker.

I don't know anything about actual performance benefits though.
