I'm not sure if it's just because he's a bit frazzled after the race, but he sounds like a non-native English speaker in places there. Very strange.

as an australian, he sounds like an australian trying to speak to a non-english speaker, try and not speak with any short cuts or slang.

edit, he has a little bit of an English accent as well...

Yeah, his accent is quite muddled here; it sounds mostly Aussie + a splash of something English & South African. I've never heard him speak like this before.

Yeah, that was weird... I was picking up on Seth Eflickan too, bru. Perhaps it's that thing where you slowly mimic the accent of the person you're speaking to? I do that sometimes :(

Hamilton questions RBR front wing

Lewis Hamilton insists Red Bull's controversial front wing flexes more than the rules allow.

The Milton Keynes team's wing caused a major storm at last year's German Grand Prix and the FIA was forced introduced heavier flex tests. Red Bull's cars passed the deflection tests and they've had no problems since then.

However, Hamilton has brought the issue back into the spotlight after Sebastian Vettel put in a dominant display at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.

"Did you see Vettel's front wing?" he is quoted by Bild "It bends down to the ground and gives him about half a second. Either we [FIA] close this loophole or we [McLaren] copy it."

According to German paper, McLaren are considering lodging a protest with motor sport's governing body over the issue.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko hit back at accusations that their front wing is illegal, saying the whole saga is becoming "boring".

"They try it again and again.. And we pass each test."

Look at the flex on McLaren!! Makes me so happy after last year.
All wings flex under load. The really fascinating thing is watching the tires expand. :)

Wasn't Raikkonnen in the juinior WRC championship or something? I don't think he competed with the likes of Loeb and Hirvonnen.

The McLaren and Mercedes front wings seem to flex differently compared to the RBR wing. On the Red Bull, it looks like the ends flex further down compared to the nose while the other two look like the entire nose and wing flexes as one assembly.

Last year he was in the Citroen Junior team, but it was pretty much the same car Loeb drives and the same car that his then team mate Ogier took to victory in a rally or two. So yeah, he was on their level of competition but not on their level of skill. No remarkable results this year so far, but I'm willing to wait until some asphalt rallies before passing judgment since he seemed to be stronger in those.

I really do think that HRT should have been allowed to participate in this race.

they are both easily within 107% of vettels fastest race lap,
D'Amb is easily within the 107% of the overal fastest race lap, Glock slightly over it
thou comparing race laps is kinda pointless with different strategies and all

I would like to see HRT steering wheel :D

Also, Mclaren used rear diffusor made from titanium in Australia. They are now already working on carbon based, heat resistant part - carbon is much lighter.

I'm guessing the HRT wheel looks like last year's model...

And I know that a commentator made that titanium claim during the race, but it's definitely ceramic-coated carbon fiber.

Mclaren chose to coat it because they only had time to manufacture two and they weren't sure how their experimental exhaust setup was going to affect it.

On the times above, Timo Glock doesn't think Virgin or HRT will be within the 107% rule after qualifying in Malaysia.
The times that the top teams go for in Q1 is faster than last year so far. The Pirellis have a one lap grip thats even better than the Bridgestones.

I think Timo is right to be concerned about Virgin's performance.

Rumours going around on Twitter that James Key has been sacked over the Melbourne wing-gate controversy for Sauber.

If its true its THE worst thing Sauber could do, he is responsible for turning them around.
Before he joined, Sauber didn't last 10 laps in a race without blowing up a Ferrari engine. By the end of the season they were scoring regularly.
This year they have shown really solid pace; the best of the midfield teams.

With Force India, he had them as the best midfield team who regularly challenged the top teams at certain tracks.

McLaren should jump in for him.

I'd highly doubt it, not even EJ would be stupid enough to sack their lead designer because of a design glitch.

I hope so.

Speaking of Nascar, how's Montoya doing? He's kind of a douche, but the fights with Schumacher were fun to watch.

AFAIK Montoya is actually doing reasonably well, he came 6th in the Daytona 500, almost 4th or 2nd after Kyle Busch decided to go up top around the last bend.

Some of my favorite pictures of the Australian GP, including my absolute favorite at the bottom (even though I'm bummed that Petrov ruined Jenson's race)...

As a diehard Mclaren fan, I actually think it's tied for the ugliest car with Mercedes GP.

Are you crazy? :O

The livery & the body design on the '26 is just pure awesome!
