Hell yes it was. Really hope they got a lot of positive feedback from it because it's something that I think most permanent venues could benefit from.

I wish that camera was used at more circuits. It was badass.

Well it was an initial test at Silverstone, so I think we can expect to see it at other tracks this year :)

I'm bummed that nobody seems to use the composite camera that Magny-Cours used to have.

I loved seeing overlapped footage to compare each driver's line.

I thought Korea was a great success by Tilke's standards.

Also, without trying to be rude, I wonder whether this image might be a bit more appropriate :)

I want Ferrari to go winless for the next 10 seasons. I actually want them to fail more than I want any other team to win.
That's the same way I feel about mclaren, I would rather see vettel win every race then a mclaren driver win

Initial test ? Such a camera has been used many times before, as early as I think 2002 at Hockenheim.

I dunno, I'll believe it when I see it but I don't expect to see him on the grid come 2012 if he is I doubt he'll be back to the standards he was before the accident but we'll see.

Racing drivers heal at totally unnatural rates. Kubica only missed one race [?] after his horrific crash at Montreal in 2007.

I fully expect to see him back on the grid in 2012.

That's damned well impressive.

I'm all for canopy F1 cars, sure it sort of stops becoming open-wheel racing, but it's one step closer the to X2010 in GT5 ;)

It can still be open wheel racing if there are canopies. If the wheels are covered then its no longer open wheel racing. At least in my book.

It's still open-wheeled :p and it's still a single seater, it just looks a bit different. Plus it gives the aero guys something new to play with. And yeah, it's a step closer to X2010/Wipeout ;)

They should implement this in the lower formulas as well, I'm surprised they didn't take a closer look at this after Henry Surtees's death a couple years back.

Oh herpa derpa, of course it's still open wheeled racing >_< My bad :p

Surtee's death was devastating, and so, so unlucky. It's still an incredible miracle that Massa survived his accident in 2009.

Although how would the drivers cool themselves with a closed cockpit? There would be no consistent rush of air.

F-duct.

We'd also have faster cars with shrouded wheels. I'm all for pushing the limits of the cars but there are a few things I see as integral to the identity of an F1 car, and unshrouded wheels and cockpit are part of that.

Just like front mounted engines were integral to the identity of F1 back in the 50's, right?

F1 has to continue evolving. There's a reason it's a forefront of technology.

Covered wheels and cockpits aren't new technology yet their exclusion has been part of the cars since the beginning, that's why I say they're important to the image of an F1 car. If the goal were to produce the absolute fastest cars possible they would've been covered up decades ago, but F1 is about creating the absolute fastest cars within the bounds of a set of regulations which I hope to always include open wheels and cockpits.

I kinda agree, the design of the F1 car as we know it is very defined and part of what makes the sport so excited. It doesn't feel as... I don't, safe I suppose as other car designs?

I'm all for safety, of course, but I wouldn't like the look of F1 cars to change too much.

I just had an awesome idea!

How about we change those regulations in the middle of the season, to make things a bit more exciting!

The design of the F1 car is very defined because the regulations don't allow even the smallest of bodywork changes. The cars have only looked the same since 2009, to me each generation of F1 cars look completely different.

Look at Le Mans this year, the R18 & 908 looked totally different yet they were within a second of each other.

I'll forward it to Charlie.

I dunno, the designs have changed in various ways over the years, but when you show me cars from 50 years ago they still look pretty similar and just as unique as the cars we have today.

The wheels being far out from the car and driver being in an uncovered cockpit is what makes F1 so cool, in a lot of ways. That's the whole image.
