I'm all screwed up. I thought there was a race every 2 weeks? I watched the Germany one and figured there would be a race today, I go and check and realized there was one last week? and now there's not one until the 28th??

There's always a summer break during this period and the factories have to shut down for two weeks.

u missed a wonderful race.. and make sure you don't miss Spa, always one of the best races on the calendar

Martin Brundle said on the forum that 9 out of the 11 races have been brilliant this season. I know that he means the European GP by one of them, but which is the other? I can't think of any.

So I've downloaded the whole 2009 season because I never saw it.

... now I'm downloading the entire 2008 season because I decided I wanted to watch that as well (ITV - ick!)

...

... I'm also downloading the official FIA yearly reviews for 2000 - 2007

Well, I need something to watch after this season is over, right?

>_>

I downloaded (the only other F1 stuff on Usenet) some yearly summaries by ESPN from '70-'76. Only watched the first one, but holy hell 1970 was a fucked up year.

Great to see an Aussie represent as well _b

Where is the best place to get everything? I'm pretty much exclusively a Usenet guy but if there am torrents, I'm in.

I Googled for the 2009 and 2008 full year collection, they're on public trackers. Very fast too considering they were 60gb each.

You can grab the yearly reviews from most public trackers too if you Google, but I used Piranha for them because they had a nice collection all in one torrent (1970-2010, I think it was). I just picked the years I wanted out of them.

Dude, last time I was heart-broken, I spent literally the entire fall drinking smoothies and watching 1998-2004 season. Loved it, though.

Awesome. Really enjoyed my motorsport-dedicated day yesterday (though it was mostly passive) and could easily line-up some more.

6 seasons? Holy hell!

My girlfriend and I were thinking of doing one race a weekend or something to pass the time. Maybe two a week if we want to get through both years :p

I've seen a couple races this year and bought F1 2010 during the Steam Sale, and want to see some of the previous great seasons, any suggestions? Hopefully some with great championship battles all the way to the end.

My favourite Championships for that are; 1997, 1999, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010. (Must watch)

Alright thanks, I only know that Vettel won last year and Hamilton I think was in 08, and I'm guessing 97/99/03/05/06 may all be Schumacher but I will try my best not to spoil them before I watch.

I also, somehow, completely forgot to say 2007 as well.

Where do you guys recommend finding these old races to watch? Amazon only seems to sell season reviews which I don't care for, and I went looking at torrents/direct downloads since I have seen those mentioned a few times before in this thread so I guess not bannable from the pirating angle, but I can't seem to find any full season packs. :/

It's like +200 hours. It would've taken me 100 days if I watched one race a day. Suffice it to say, I did not spend 100 days watching them all.

I was really hoping Mercedes would pull it together this year, but it's just looking worse and worse :( I'm starting to hope Schumacher will stay for the 2013 season, too - maybe then he can get some pay-off for Mercedes pumping money into the team. And Mr Brawn better do something awesome!

The first season I heavily watched was the 2005 season. Ever since then I've never missed a race weekend apart from a couple of races here and there. My favourite seasons have to be 2006, 2007 and 2008. 2010 is also one season I really enjoyed because of the points and the situation with the top 5 drivers always within a win of each other and also Alonso's second half of the season.

2000 was a great season as well; Schumacher prime versus Häkkinen was a joy to watch.

I dont think we've had a single bad race this year. Australia and Valencia may seem like two that weren't quite as good as the rest, but by any other standard, they were good races.

For the person asking about which seasons to watch - watch THIS season. Every race has been pretty much action-packed from start to finish. Never have F1 races been so entertaining. As good as the 1st half of the season was, where Red Bull were largely dominant pace-wise, the 2nd half is looking to be even better, with all three top teams being very closely matched now.

Yes both 1998 and 2000 are right up there, the fight between hakkinen and shumi was amazing. Its one of those rivalries you dont see that often any more. I mean the last one we had was kimi and hamilton, now its just vettel against the rest. Or red bull against the rest.

This weeks country-that's-looking-into-hosting-a-grand-prix: Mexico

Mexican entertainment company CIE is working in conjunction with Carlos Slim Domit, the son of Carlos Slim, the world's richest man, to get Mexico back on the Formula 1 calendar.

"It's being studied," Slim Domit told the Reuters news agency.

Mexico has hosted 15 world championship grands prix, first from 1963 to 1970 and then again from 1986 to 1992.

The Hermanos Rodriguez circuit, which hosted all the Formula 1 races and is operated by CIE, is being considered as one of the possible venues, although it would need an upgrade to be up to GP standards.

According to Reuters, another option could be a new street circuit in Guadalajara.

I'm surprised with all these f1 circuits supposedly running at a loss that anyone would want to host one. Maybe the "running at a loss" doesn't take into account tourism and the like?

just read a dutch article that the french grand prix and spa might change every year like the german grand prix, that fucking sucks.
i dont want to wait a whole year before i can see a spa grand prix again, this is horrible.
how can you keep valencia on there but do this to spa.

Because Valencia generates more revenue than Spa.

It usually does not. The running at a loss refers to the individual owners of the track, or the local government who is putting up money for the track.

I am sure businesses prosper.

Yeah I read this rumour a while back. (Think it was posted here)

Every year there are rumours about Spa being dropped completely, so if there is a deal to rotate between Franch & Spa then I suppose it is much better than loosing it completely

Fixed. Next time, use your own shift key.

Anyway, Etienne Davignon, the circuit director, confirmed there are talks with the French authorities and Ecclestone. But nothing final.

''Nous avons constaté que c'était avec la France que les perspectives les plus positives pouvaient s'engager, ce qui voudrait dire que les Grands-Prix continueraient à Francorchamps après 2012.''

http://www.rtbf.be/info/regions/det...pour-garder-le-gp-sur-le-sol-belge?id=6577913

He also said the circuit is not for sale, as there were rumors Genii wanted to buy the track.

Meh, I don't like qualifying tires. I like it now, they have a set amount, so they have to manage race vs. quali somewhat. If they bring back quali tires, I hope they also have a limited amount, maybe 1-2 sets at most in addition to regular tires.

The system they have now is beyond stupid. There are drivers willingly not participating in qualifying so that they can have more tyres in the race, the sport shouldn't have come to this.

I don't know if I'd like tires that are only good for one hot lap. How about just allocating a set or two of options for qualifying only so they don't have to worry about saving them for the race?

I don't see what's wrong with this. They're not necessarily at an advantage by choosing to do so, it's a gamble, and the rules are better off for allowing for such differences in strategy.

Qualifying tyres will do nothing to shake up the grid or improve the spectacle.
