Since we are talking about the shape of the cars, I much enjoyed the early 90's models. I just loved the straightforward, flowing rounded lines they had.

Don't be surprised this is my favorite of them all:

Also, I'd like to see Imola back. The butchering of the track was an overreaction (who could be blamed) to that tragic weekend in '94, but the course had far more positive aspects to it than negatives.
I actually love its spiritual predecessor, which was also from the mind of the great Gordon Murray. One of the most beautiful F1 cars ever designed.

The BT55.

It'll be interesting to see where F1 design goes from here.

I wonder if in 25 years they'll even look remotely the same.

Some Googleing tells me that a marshall was killed in 2000 by flying debris, so I presume that's the correct answer.

I don't know what the question was, but was that the one with the flying wheel from Villeneuve's car that found it's way between a gap in the fencing in Melbourne? That was tragic :(

Oh, I wasn't pointing out your post, just correcting mine :) I'm actually thinking that the question is relating to Monza (given this weekend) and in 2000 a marshal did die there, but I'm not sure of the specifics.

Well since there's no general motorsport thread (anymore): Tony Kanaan trying to pull a Webber. Scary stuff. The cause was a stuck throttle, that's probably the scariest thing that can happen when you're in a (racing) car.

Edit: Not a stuck throttle, but the cause was the #2 scariest thing that can happen when in a racing car, losing your brakes.

Other than hitting the other car that was probably not a bad place for it to happen with the run off and tires there. Pretty scary.

Yep. The wheels flying off the Torro Rosso last year was far more scary looking to me. Because there is 0 control.

Oh I know :)

And there were quite a few marshall deaths back in the day it seems. There were definitely 3/4 in the reviews I watched.

Here we go:

More Murray Walker quotes:

BTCC at Donington, Derek Warwick's Alfa hits a BBC camera - "He's broken our camera lens that'll be six grand please Derek"

"The two McLaren drivers are so hot they look like 2 fried lobsters in silver suits"

"First man out is Marques in the Arrows. Of course he's going out early to generate some media interest"
Martin - "I'm sure he would generate some interest if he went out in the Arrows because Marques drives for Minardi"

"Well he's world champion, and we only get one of those a year."

'and thats one of the mechanics using a feeler guage to measure the depth of tread in the slick'.

"They're now on lap 68, which means there's one, two, three, four, five laps to go before the end of the Hungarian Grand Prix" (hey, kids, learn to count withMurray.....)

'Nigel Mansell had a problem with the wheel-nut on his Williams, then he went on to win brilliantly for Ferrari!'

"This race will actually develop into a Grand prix"

"Andrea de Cesaris...the man who has won more Grands Prix than anyone else without actually winning one of them."

Murray: "And there are flames coming from the back of Prost's car as he enters the swimming pool."
James: "Well, that should put them out then."

"And Alesi spins there...spins out of the race, surely... "Yes!...NO! Alesi manages to keep the engine, does not stall, but of course he will have lost the place I think. No! he's kept the place"

"...the lead is now 6.9 seconds. In fact it's just under 7 seconds"

"Tambay's hopes , which were nil before, are absolutely zero now."

"You can't see a digital clock because there isn't one."

"This is an interesting circuit because it has inclines, and not just up, but down as well."

Q: Monza is another well-respected circuit - what is your experience of it?
Bruno Senna said:
I’ve known Monza since 2005, so I have been there every year apart from 2009. It’s a circuit where I’ve had a mixed bag of results. When I was younger, there were a few occasions when I didn’t have the right car set-up but I now understand the circuit much better. I’m a more mature driver now, and I’m confident we can achieve another top 10 qualifying and score more points.

Top 10 finish would be sweet. I'm not sure of the Renault's strengths (top speed, cornering, etc) as I haven't followed them much this year. Monza would seem to cater to the top speed cars. I am interested to see how the Mercedes run. They looked very quick full on at Spa.

Mercedes should do well. As I understand it, they've got a very effective DRS on their car.

Speaking of Renault, they've just secured four substantial sponsors, with at least one of them being a Brazilian company. That should sort out their money troubles for a while.

Mercedes could probably benefit from puling a Button from last year and run some more wing to make it through the corners.

Speed isn't everything, Button only lost Monza by a second or two.

Here's what I was trying to find. Well I know McLaren had it at one point.

Gotta' love the bunny ears J.B.!

Also, who's idiotic idea at Honda said "I know, to help with a $150million budget let's say no to any sponsors!" ?

Because they knew they were pulling out, so might as well advertise yourselves to the most.

Didn't Honda change their livery almost every race in 2008?
