Is Koba 100% out or are they trying to fix the car?

McLaren is looking fast. Petrov is really impressive this season.

So, of course the new teams all out, but Kovalainen only .5s away from Barrichello, so that Lotus is getting closer, slowly but surely. Once they get those power steering issues sorted they'll be up there.

Anyway, Where did Alonso get some pace from? Nowhere all weekend then almost on pace on the hard tyres? Interesting.

no time -> no race due to the 107% rule i'd think
Officially, but he'll be allowed in because it was a mechanical failure, not a pace issue.

isn't that a bit of a weird loophole for teams that know they won't make the 107 ?

That would be a dick move if they didn't let him start considering it was a technical issue.

Don't they go back to the practice times to see if he was competitive or something? Or am I either remembering incorrectly or making it up?

No, because if a car was clearly wasn't going to qualify, but fails, then the decision may well be different. In this case Kobayashi will easily get that in that 107% rule.

As Martin Brundle explained on the BBC just now, he'll be allowed in because his car has done practice laps that were well within the 107% time. The system will catch out the slower cars, not the unfortunate ones.

So, run 1 of Q2 and aside from the Mercedes, all were on soft's weren't they?

Anyway, Alonso quick again, Button slower than he should be, and Vettel is epic...again. Will be interesting to see what round 2 brings. Will the Mercedes team finally gatecrash the front 2 rows of the grid?

Race Engineer to Schumacher: "Magic paddle latched"...

Wow, I mean, what can you say to that other than er...wat? I want a magic paddle, but how does it latch, and what does it latch to?

The FIs have really lifted their game this season. Really impressed. Di Resta doing a good job, too... can't be far off being a #2 for a big-league team.

Feeling sorry for Reubens :(

Probably end up at Mercedes after Schumacher calls it a day.

Wow, you can actually see the change in the left tyre during that Turn 8 Analysis. Never seen such a visible change in a tyre while going roud a corner before

This is getting beyond a joke now. Vettel, you absolute MONSTER. 1:25.049 and a class apart, again.

Webber 2nd, Hamilton 3rd, Alonso 4th, Button 5th, Petrov 6th. The Mercs, Massa and Heidfeld still to go out.

Nice drive by Rosberg, the difference between him and Schumacher seems to be getting bigger every race. Impressive that he is ahead of McLarens.

SO, I was right, Mercedes (Via Rosberg) does gatecrash the 2nd row, 3rd place.

The RBR cars were so confident they didn't even bother with a 2nd run, Vettel 1st Webber 2nd. Hamilton 4th, Alonso 5th (again!) and Button 6th. Petrov 7th, Schumacher 9th, Heidfeld 9th and Massa didn't set a lap time.

Tomorrow again will be epic I'm sure, we now know that Vettel isn't unbeatable, but it wont be easy. 4 poles in a row for Vettel though, this is getting a bit too predictable...

Vettel is just too good on those one lap runs. Well done to Rosberg for getting himself up there in 3rd, hopefully the Merc is strong in the race and can mix it up with the Red Bulls and McLarens.

This.

Webber must have been shitting himself for a bit there, Britney coming close.

But for some reason, I have a feeling that Vettel might not be able to keep it together during the race proper. Here's hoping.

i think there is a fairly good chance that Rosberg will catch Webber at the start. But i doubt he can maintain p2 with his racepace.

Mercedes is very good at starts this year, probably the best team out there with Renault. Alonso will have difficult time tommorow, Button, Petrov and Schumacher are behind his back.
Massa used one of his softer sets in Q1, a lot of people missed that.

Even if he can, I am sure Webber has already lined up 15 technical problems to use as excuses for being the snail he is right now.

Eh, do not be afraid for Webber

There is 75% chance that he will waste his start AGAIN.
