Not with bondage whips and chains, a good old fashioned bare knuckle beatdown:

I wonder if teams will just do their own independent turbo development. Will they get thrown in with exhaust design, and some of the other ancillary engine bits that engine manufacturers currently leave up to the teams? They're obviously not part of the sealed engine block, so I'd expect lots of ongoing development either way. Provided the rules allow for it of course.

That's a really good point. If the turbos aren't a sealed portion of the engine then they could undergo massive amounts of development. I think renault was already trying to develop an electrically assisted anti-lag system. That much money focused on turbine design and development could translate really well to road cars with regards to turbine efficiency, solutions like electrically assisted anti-lag, turbine design, cooling, heat dissipation.

It really could pay dividends for road cars and fuel efficiency.

The BBC have a bit detailing some of the problems hosting a race at the a1 ring.

There are, however, a number of potential problems with the Red Bull Ring hosting a grand prix.
These include the shortage of hotel accommodation in the mountainous Styrian region, an agreement between Red Bull and the regional government to host no event with a crowd of more than 40,000, and the lack of facilities and organisation to run an event of such magnitude.

And he said that the media centre, which struggled to cope with the capacity required by a German Touring Car race this year, could be extended, and an organisation to run the event imported.

It's going to be fun to see turbos get the full Formula 1 treatment where the whole system gets hyper-analyzed, and innovation sprouts up.

I love rule changes.

His self-admiration is reaching critical levels, lol.

Even team bosses know that webber isn't a top 5 driver.

Alonso's self love is the most impressive performance of 2012.

Another reason my Kobayashi has to drive next year. We clearly need slimmer and lighter drivers.

That´s not how it works. F1 uses ballast weight to fill up the requirements, so that everyone is on the same level playing field. If that wasn´t the case, F1 would be only Prost´s and Koba´s, no chance for guys like Mansell and Wurz.

Bummed that Norby is setting sail. Loved that guy. Loved him more with the stash.

Driver weight is still a factor. Not because of how much they weigh, but because of where that weight is stored. Ballast is used in the very lowest points of the car keeping the center of gravity down. Giant mustaches and enormous front teeth raise that c.g., and limit the distribution of ballast to help with handling.

It's like a couple of years ago a lot of the drivers were told to thin down as much as possible. Kubica showed up utterly emaciated. It wasn't a good look.

So ballast stays in one spot but the drivers might help the car roll in one direction?

Essentially, yes. Everything in an F1 car is placed as low as possible. The weight of the driver is quite high in comparison. The higher the center of gravity, the worse the car handles (in basic terms).

Well, yes and no. The lighter the driver, the more freedom the teams have to put the ballast exactly where they need it. The shorter the driver(s), the more freedom they have to design the car.

And ironically enough, your two test cases have both had their careers hampered by their size. Mansell missed two races in 1995 because he couldn't fit in the car, and Wurz's height pretty much fucked his chances staying on the grid.

Hamilton am fucked.

He's fucked with Ross Brawn running the team.

Honda - Total failure.
Brawn - Super Aguri and Dome gift wrapped him the championship by designing the double deck diffuser. Without it - Total failure.
Mercedes - Total failure.

Him and his super team are shit, Lauda will have him out next season.

Driver rumours from twatter:

Bianchi to Force India, announcement next week

Grosjean staying at Lotus, announcement tomorrow

Indeed, after Richards left the team went to complete shit.

Brawn has been there since 2007 and look at the state of Mercedes - lol, there's no hope for them with him running things.

With the people leaving.

So, no Di Resta or Kamui next year?

I'm sad about one of them.

Does Kamui get to keep his money he got from his fans? Sad to see him go but it was to be expected once he lost his seat at sauber. What especially makes it sad is the fact that drivers like him don't have high chances of making come back.

At least he had a chance to win races, if the team let him. At Mercedes he's hoping for podiums.

Clearly a step back, but it seems he wants the same what Fernando has at Ferrari.
Yeah, but with Ferrari there's some heritage and somewhat proven track record. There's really not much of that at all with Mercedes.

On Kamui: Was the money from his website straight out of pocket or was it a la Kickstarter where it's only withdrawn *if* he gets a seat? I'd like to think it's the latter, but I dunno.

I was thinking more of owning the team, getting #1 status and Mercedes building the team around him.

While it's great that McLaren lets their drivers race, I think Lewis deserved better than that. Button is a great driver and he has his moments, but to me he's like Hill or Villeneuve. But maybe for Lewis it's like moving out of his parents home. He was his whole life with McLaren and probably wants to experience something new. Both him and Whitmarsh never ruled out a comeback.

Great points. Although I didn't realise the prospect of owning the team was there for Lewis (unless you meant "owning" in that he would "own" the focus of it, so to speak).

Yeah, I meant "owning the team" in the sense of getting the full attention, just like Fernando "owns" Ferrari. Which is why I made the reference earlier.

Alonso is a great driver, but as I've always thought, he's a bit of a dick.

A bit? Hes a total dick, if you lookup dick in the dictionary you'll see his face in the difinition

Very sad to see haug go. Mercedes are rearranging their cards, rightfully so, thats what ferrari need to do as well

Whether haug was squeezed out or it was his own decision doesnt really matter. The team needed a shuffle

Every team is an Adrian Newey away from being competitive, problem is there is only one AN (and a retired Rory).

Looks like there has been kind of a GE vs UK fallout. Stuttgart wants more control over the english based team, and NH was seen as too soft on RB.

So why were McLaren so fast this year? Who is their Adrian Newey?

I say Adrian Newey specifically because he's well known for making rocketships that don't have reliability... which is exactly what McLaren had this year.

I dont think you are following what I am saying. In the context of Mercedes, every team is one important cog away from a competitive team so it's foolish to write them off.

For what it's worth I really don't think it's that simple. I think you need an entire team of specialists to get it right, it's just that the media loves to point at one person and say they're the maestro.
