I'll just leave this here:

djudr.jpg

It wasn't raining yet
But it was definitely a little misty on
That warm November night
And my heart was pounding
My inner voice resounding
Begging me to turn away
But I just had to see your face
To feel alive

And then you casually walked in the room
And I was twisted in the web
Of my desire for you
And I was twisted
My apprehension blew away
I only wanted you
To taste my sadness
As you kissed me in the dark

Every time I feel the need
I envision you caressing me
And go back in time
To relieve the splendor of you and I
On the rooftop that rainy night

And so we finished the Moet and
Started feeling liberated
And I surrendered as you took me
In your arms
I was so caught up in the moment
I couldn't bear to let you go yet
So I threw caution to the wind
And started listening to my longing heart

I hate those twitpics/Youtube comments that compare the good ol' days of music to today's music. There was shit being made back then that no one remembers because it was shit and there are classics being made today that will be remembered in 50 years. Not that I'm implying that Run the World is one of those classics but...they didn't even put the right lyrics in. If they're gonna shade, it should at least be accurate shade.

Mariah's songwriting skills really should get more credit than they do. I love that song.

It's sad, because she hit her prime at a time when the Grammy committee didn't just give out awards like candy in order to get people to tune in.

You just know that if Mariah was a new artist debuting in the 2000s she'd be swimming in Grammys...;__;

Well, it's not like the rest of the song exhibits more lyrical depth, tbh...

yup, they just put the chorus.

Probably because the rest of the song is even more embarrassing

Girls, we run this motha (yeah!) [x4]
GIRLS!

[Chorus:]
Who run the world? Girls! [x4]
Who run this motha? Girls! [x4]
Who run the world? Girls! [x4]

[Verse 1:]
Some of them men think they freak this like we do
But no they don't
Make your check come at they neck,
Disrespect us no they won't

Boy don't even try to touch this
Boy this beat is crazy
This is how they made me
Houston Texas baby
This goes out to all my girls
That's in the club rocking the latest
Who will buy it for themselves and get more money later
I think I need a barber
None of these niggas can fade me
I'm so good with this,
I remind you I'm so hood with this
Boy I'm just playing
Come here baby
Hope you still like me
F- you pay me

My persuasion can build a nation
Endless power, with our love we can devour
You'll do anything for me

[Chorus:]
Who run the world? Girls! [x4]
Who run this motha? Girls! [x4]
Who run the world? Girls! [x4]

[Verse 2:]
It's hot up in here
DJ don't be scared to run this, run this back
I'm reppin' for the girls who taking over the world
Help me raise a glass for the college grads

41 rollin' to let you know what time it is, check
You can't hold me
I work my 9 to 5, better cut my check
This goes out to all the women getting it in,
You're on your grind
To other men that respect what I do
Please accept my shine
Boy I know you love it
How we're smart enough to make these millions
Strong enough to bear the children
Then get back to business
See, you better not play me
Oh, come here baby
Hope you still like me
F- you hate me

My persuasion can build a nation
Endless power
With our love we can devour
You'll do anything for me

[Chorus:]
Who run the world? Girls! [x4]
Who run this motha? Girls! [x4]
Who run the world? Girls! [x4]

Who are we? What we run? The world (who run this motha, yeah)
Who are we? What we run? The world (who run this motha, yeah)
Who are we? What do we run? We run the world! (who run this motha, yeah)
Who are we? What we run? We run the world
Who run the world? Girls

It's so hypnotic
The way he pulls on me
It's like the force of gravity
Right up under my feet
It's so erotic
This feeling can't be beat
It's coursing through my whole body
Feel the heat

I got that burnin' hot desi-i-i-re
And no one can put out my fi-i-i-re
It's coming right down through the wi-i-i-re
Here it comes
When I hear them 808 drums
It's got me singing

Hey, ey, ey, ey
Like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild
I'm like, hey, ey, ey, ey
Like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild

Girls they just wanna have some fun
Get fired up like smokin' gun
On the floor til the daylight comes
Girls they just wanna have some fun

A girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild
I'm like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild

The room is spinning
It must be the tanqueray
I'm about to go astray
My inhibition's gone away
I feel like sinning
You got me in the zone
DJ play my favorite song
Turn me on

I got that burnin' hot desi-i-i-re
And no one can put out my fi-i-i-re
It's coming right down through the wi-i-i-re
Here it comes
When I hear them 808 drums
It's got me singing

Hey, ey, ey, ey
Like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild
I'm like, hey, ey, ey, ey
Like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild

Girls they just wanna have some fun
Get fired up like smokin' gun
On the floor til the daylight comes
Girls they just wanna have some fun

I know, I know, I know
I shouldn't act this way
I know, I know, I know
Good girls don't misbehave
Misbehave
But I'm a bad girl, anyway
Forgive me

Hey, ey, ey, ey
Like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild
I'm like, hey, ey, ey, ey
Like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild

Girls they just wanna have some fun
Get fired up like smokin' gun
On the floor til the daylight comes
Girls they just wanna have some fun

A girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild
I'm like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild

No one writes GOOD LYRICS anymore

You just know that if Mariah was a new artist debuting in the 2000s she'd be swimming in Grammys...;__;

She really doesn't get enough credit for her songwriting at all, at least among the 'general public.' She has gotten plenty of credit from the industry, Grammy committee and reviewers aside (which have always, always snubbed her).

Breakdown:

You call yesterday to basically say
That you care for me but that you're just not in love
Immediately I pretended to be feelin similarly
And led you to believe I was O.K.
To just walk away from the one thing
That's unyielding and sacred to me

Well I guess I'm trying to be nonchalant about it
And I'm going to extremes to prove I'm fine without you
But in reality I'm slowly losing my mind
Underneath the guise of a smile gradually I'm dying inside
Friends ask me how I feel and I lie convincingly
'Cause I don't want to reveal the fact that I'm suffering
So I wear my disguise 'til I go home at night
And turn down all the lights and then I break down and cry

So what do you do when somebody you're so devoted to
Suddenly just stops loving you and it seems they haven't
got a clue
Of the pain that rejection is putting you through
Do you cling to your pride and sing "I will survive"
Do you lash out and say: "How dare you leave this way"
Do you hold on in vain as they just slip away

Well I guess I'm trying to be nonchalant about it
And I'm going to extremes to prove I'm fine without you
But in reality I'm slowly losing my mind
Underneath the guise of a smile gradually I'm dying inside
Friends ask me how I feel and I lie convincingly
'Cause I don't want to reveal that fact that I'm suffering
So I wear my disguise 'til I go home at night
And turn down all the lights and then I break down and cry

A MASTERPIECE

Yellow diamonds in the light
And we're standing side by side
As your shadow crosses mine
What it takes to come alive

It's the way I'm feeling I just can't deny
But I've gotta let it go

We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place

Shine a light through an open door
Love and life I will divide
Turn away cause I need you more
Feel the heartbeat in my mind

It's the way I'm feeling I just can't deny

It wouldn't really fit the atmosphere/production of the song if it was verbose

Yes, what the baboon failed to realize is that its a throwback to 90's edm music, which was very sparse in lyrics and relied more on production to create a certain atmosphere.

On that note, turns out Rih's label fought hard with Rih to NOT make WFL a single. They thought it was gonna flop.

I also thought it was gonna be a flop in the US but a hit in Europe. It smashed everywhere but it was a bigger hit in the US

RHENNA PLS

You love WFL tho

It's not fair that most of the Rihanna songs that I really like don't become big hits. =/

Te Amo and Man Down were so great, but didn't really make an impact.

They were hits somewhere lol.

Actually Man Down was the biggest english song in France in 2011. Te Amo went #1 (I think?) in Brazil when it leaked in demo form like a year before Rated R came out.

I did hear Man Down a lot in the BBC Radio 1Xtra. Urban radio did like that song.
