Unbreakable has the best DVD cover. Still can't decide though, I need to go back and watch Mask of the Phantasm again.

in a lot of ways i have to give the crown to Unbreakable. Spidey2 and X2 are tied and get their own award seperate from Unbreakable.

... I'll put you down for Unbreakable until then!

THE SCORE

Spider-Man 2 = 2
X2: X-Men United = n/a
Unbreakable = 3
Superman = 1
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm = 1
Darkman = n/a

Oh well, great choices, you haven't forgotten anything, IMO.

1. Spiderman 2
2. X-Men 2
3. Darkman
4. Unbreakable (damn shitty ending, it would end up higher on the list with a climax)
5. Batman : Mask of the Phantasm
6. Superman (Superman is a boring superhero to me, but the movie was still good)

All good movies, though.

Limiting it to those 6 is tough. I'm leanig toward Batman: MOTP for having the best plot.

I'd rank them

Batman: MOTP
Spiderman 2
Superman The Movie
X2: X-Men United
Darkman
Unbreakable

Unbreakable was OK, and Darkman was a little too corny (though quite enjoyable).

If Superman II were on the list, that'd be #1

increadibles or no increadibles I would still have voted for unbreakable.

but I maintain that this is the sort of thread wilco would have cooked up six months ago but waited untill now for his pet spiderman 2 to hit DVD. TEH FIX IS IN. don't mind the few month break since it was actually released...

EDIT: It seems like for every vote Spider-Man 2 gets, Unbreakable gets one more!

Just so you all know, there is no surprise, and I went and voted for Spider-Man 2. Only because I felt that the movie was as close to having a page-for-page adaptation of Amazing Spider-Man on the big screen as you can get. It was like living in the Marvel universe, if just for two hours, and one of the most fun, fulfilling summer blockbusters in recent memory.

That said, I think M. Night's Unbreakable is an amazing film. It has so much care put into to it, from its characters, to all the symbolization, the cinematography, the way the story progresses (for awhile, you're wondering if Bruce Willis is just a normal guy) and everything. It's a benchmark for the genre, especially if you attempt to be serious.

Both films feature art by Alex Ross, so that's why they're awesome.

1 vote for Superman 1 (though Willco has to know that it he'd put Superman 2 in that spot instead, it'd murder all these other, lesser movies).

Honorable mention for Darkman. "See the dancing freak! Just five bucks!"

Superman II hasn't aged too well. It's fun for comic book nerds, I think, but not many else. I enjoy it, but I think Superman is a better flick.

... but Superman II does have Zod!

Your habit of disputing every post I make in a movie thread is rather creepy.

In general, your posts in film threads are like Shogmaster's posts in Mac threads, minus the entertainment value.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is clearly best. It gets to the heart of the character without a lot of really repetitive filler material (unlike Spider-Man 2) and its music is at least the second best out of everything listed. I'm not sure if it can beat out the Superman theme, but the chorus version of the Batman theme at the start sure is great. It's got two great villains, a nice mystery, some gorgeous animation....I think the only really bad thing about it is the awful love theme that plays over the closing credits.

Unbreakable, like all Shamymalan films, is an extended episode of the Twilight Zone. Nice, but I'm never really that impressed. X2 was just mediocrity incarnate, aside from the cool opening sequence. I really never understood why it was so loved. Just because they didn't totally destroy the franchise? "Fun for comic book nerds, but not much else" would be an apt descriptor.

I can't comment on Darkman since it's probably been a decade since I've seen it.

I also agree that Superman 2 would perhaps be a better choice than the first Superman.

I didn't see Batman:MOTP, and I don't remember Darkman well enough, so those two are eliminated right off the bat.

I loved the other four listed, but only one gets more of my love than others and that one is Superman.

Unbreakable especially if u hadn't seen any of the other films the director had made at the time

at the end "They called me Mr.Glass" brilliance

Notice that this habit I have is generally oriented towards YOUR tastes, and not the tastes of others. This is weird, I know, but I can't help it if you have really bad taste. Well, let's just say "completely opposite of my tastes". Ah, fuck it, it means the same, you have really bad taste in movies.

And by the way, don't forget to show up in my COOLER thread about Kubrick's The Killing! Seeing how you looked like a Kubrick fanboy when you defended FMJ against Apocalypse Now, I'd be happy to know what you think about it. Who knows, maybe it will stir up the debate a bit.

Batman, not the shitty cartoon, the movie with Michael Keaton. That rocked. Why the hell is that not on the list? Beh.

Spider-Man 2? Garbage.

I'd say Hulk since it's the nice median between Unbreakable and X2. If just between those 6 though:

Spiderman 2: rather enjoyable but don't care rewatch
X2: pretty action packed but again, don't care rewatch
Batman-MotP: rewatched and it lost the cool factor I saw as a kid
Darkman: not too memorable for me
Superman: haven't watched in entirety
Unbreakable: great idea, slow execution

So I'll go with Mask of the Phantasm since it'll be the most likely movie I'll want to rewatch (again).

My ranking:

1. Spider-Man 2 - best superhero movie ever behind Batman (1989)
2. Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm
3. Unbreakable
4. Darkman
5. Superman
6. X2

Exactly. If that was on the list, I'm afraid it would win by a mile. Which is why I think The Fede didn't put it on there.

Because it's not that great. Eliminated by awesomness of the other six movies.

Spider-Man 2? Garbage.

I knew you had bad taste, but this bad? C'mon!
