The Gundam |OT2| Another 5 years of Gunpla, Origins, and GUNDAMUUUU!

Ive only liked two so far.

Peace Million and Archangel really.

So White Base everything from UC left me meh.

honest to goddess my mind went straght to KiraxLacus and HeeroxRelena....to much fan fiction for me lol
I'd rather watch what you put in spoiler text a million times over the unpolished year old turd that is Naruto shipping. I'm probably losing my collective shit on Corvo levels while he went nuts watching Victory Gundam.
I'm going to assert that Shinn X anyone is awful on the basis that Shinn deserves to die sad and alone
Yes I'll agree with this one that shit was bad. You're in for a fun ride JeffZero when you start up Destiny.

Hey to be fair to Naruto shipping base I've seen some that are equally as bad.

I've been apart of the Glee and Sailor Moon Shipping wars........scary stuff my friend.

I'm completely ignorant to those. I guess I should be lucky. My eyes must be red as fuck, I'm just laughing and crying at the same time over the course of easily 15 minutes.

A Dom 2.0 is well overdue.

Speaking of, I did finally finish snapbuilding the Dom Tropen. Still a pretty good kit, but it's starting to show its age. There are quite a few seam-lines, but they tend to be large and on parts that are the same color so they aren't that hard to fix. The moving trigger finger is a neat gimmick, though, and I wouldn't particularly mind seeing it on other kits.

The main appeal is that it's a bulky monster strapped with a crap ton of weapons and ammo. If you just want a HG Dom, I'd probably go for the Jetstream Attack set or the standard Dom/Rick Dom kits.

As for shipping wars, I tend to stay well clear of those.

Lol it can get super ugly.

Plus I was involved in Twilight Shipping.........excuse a girl for loving Rosalie Hale and her actress.

You got to tell me Jaded, which is the ship that drives you nuts the most in Naruto?

Also I take back those two as the two worst Gundam ships. It would be anybody XTiffa, single worst uncharasmatic female ever. I'd rather be a nun then around that black hole personality.

The way this show treats Hinata is a complete mindfuck mind you I hate Sakura and I haven't truly been exposed to Sakura x Sasuke lately. I know I'm due for something at some point with those two though.

Oh I'm pissed about Hinata as well, see is EASILY my favorite female in the show but the. I kinda look at her like I do Ginny Weasley, she had a lot that coulda been used and built on but the writer was like Nah, I got the female I want and I'm building her up.

Possibly why I'm I'm so into Hinata/Sakura.

One of my good friends is obsessed with Hinata/Gara so that or Hinata/Sasuke's are my least favorite pairing.

As far as the latest Episode of Thunderbolts, nah I'm skipping that ova.

I'm sad that the model is just a recolor of the HG and not a MG announcement when the colors are so similar.

I'm sorry, I just didn't think I'd need to vent this much. If a mod wants to clean it out I wouldn't even mind.

Enjoy Zeta man. This can't be your first time is it? If it is well it's a lot different than the first series and it's more on the dramatic side, expect more slapping than a telenovela.

Mobile Suit Gundam #23-30 Thoughts

Got back to good ol' MSG today with a wonderful string of episodes. I'll start with the one thing I want to complain about, because there was so much goodness here that I may as well. The crying in this show is done fairly pathetically. It really cheapened Ryu's funeral when everyone sounded like they were six. I'm all for the crew shedding tears and doing that Mobile Suit Gundam thing where they monologue to themselves loudly, but damn, that bawling sounded absurd.

Wait, wait, there's one more thing I need to bitch about. "Fraw's a girl, but Kikka is flat!"

Yeah, that was... we didn't need that scene.

RIP, though, Ryu. And Matilda. And Lieutenant Woody ( hehe >_>; ). And Crowley. And the Black Tri-Stars, whose voices would have been the funniest thing ever if it weren't for that weird-ass Arnold Schwarzenegger guy who flew in on the civilian plane. But most importantly, RIP Miharu.

I want to talk about Miharu. She was wonderful. I kinda-sorta remembered her dying in the movies, but only kinda-sorta. Still, it was enough that I figured she was as good as gone. But even so, when it happened I sobbed. I thought this chick's arc was splendid. She pulled Kai out of his funk, gave him real growth, and left behind two siblings we have to assume won't do so well in this harsh world unless they're really, really good at money management. Oh, and she grew, too. And her death, while it was about as telegraphed as any other, was still so sickly sudden. One moment she was happy to be helping Kai, the next she flew off the aircraft and perished in an explosion. That's war.

For a show that decides to give a retreating Zeon soldier a monkey impression for no reason other than "fuck it, this is a kids show and it's 1979," Mobile Suit Gundam doesn't flinch sometimes. It really doesn't.

I witnessed Odessa and I witnessed Jaburo. Surprisingly, I thought the toddlers dealing with the bombs was only a fifth as dumb as it could have been. Sure, it's inane that they just plucked 'em off and went on their merry way, but Amuro in a jeep racing against the clock was a fun finish.

Of course, there are mecha battles to talk about as well. Amuro really has come a long way. (I'm actually enjoying his character a lot right now, too, which is cool.) Char is right, he's really improved. This is what makes MSG so gripping, despite its obvious age (I don't even mean in animation; I don't mind that as much as some of the very dated tonal issues). When the rival character says that, I truly feel it. Not so with Kira, who just godmodes left and right from the get-go. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying SEED and I hope that's been obvious in my posts, but I'm enjoying MSG on a slightly more cerebral level, which is a little shocking to me given that it's a series in which Zeon grunts sound like they recorded their lines for an episode of Scooby Doo.

Oh damn, I still haven't talked about the mecha battles.

Well, you know how I am. I'm not as good at describing my thoughts on this stuff. It's cool that the GMs are in it now; I remember those. Gundam has taken its fair share of beatings lately. I love that Sayla is out there! Y'know, this show is not as misogynistic as I recall Universal Century as being. Is it not until Zeta and beyond that the pretentious "you're a woman and you need love lol" dialogue really starts up? Because I definitely remember some dumb lines to that effect in some of these shows.

Aaaand I'm still not describing mecha battles.

They were cool, 'kay.

I honestly don't know how the G-Self one is possible?

Are they literally carving more detail onto the pieces?

I wouldn't say UC Gundam is misogynist at all. Tomino is noted as being a feminist. And if women are treated poorly in UC, its to show the suffering of women in such a world.

I find his style of feminism problematic. But he definitely isn't misogynist

Well, we'll see. It's possible I'm completely misremembering the other bits of UC I've seen, but I definitely think there was SOMETHING to that effect at some point.

They are scribing panel lines.

The Wing F/R is interesting as it looks like they stretched the upper body and made it longer. Also shared then lines and shaved back the center plates so the jewel is more visible.

shunneige and yoshi are very popular builders, both 2013 and 2014 first place winners.

How they do it is in their blog post last year. They modified the pieces by adding plastic plates and gluing them then sanding the pieces and carving more details.

They use the original kit as a base and they use extra plastic to add more detail.

New pics of Freedom 2.0 are out.

You can see them untransformed from a few angles and the new tips are most certainly visable from the top and are clearly built into the design at all times.

Really can't say I'm a fan of that design choice what so ever.

New Barbatos has a CHAINSAW.

Those new Freedom pics. Weird cannons or no, after seeing official images it looks great.

If they do a Strike Freedom 2.0 in that style...

Actually I really don't consider Zeta to be very misogynistic, granted I'm pretty sure Beth would fight me on this one, but I really don't think there are that many weak as women in Zeta, yeah sure Reccoa is just fucked beyond belief with her motivations, but I really think Emma and Fa are strong women in their own way. Emma knew what the world was about and stayed true to her emotions, morals and sense of character. Fa was naive and sweet, a bit bitchy too, but she wanted to chip in and make herself useful in any way that she could if I'm not mistaken she did save Kamille at least twice. Four always stuck up for Kamille. Granted Paptimus was well Mr. Bishie mode activate and knew exactly how to use women, but I think he just knew how to manipulate people in general (even Yazan liked him). Though I will admit Tomino can be a little on the sexist side, but I think his depiction of women is at least nicer in Zeta than it was in Victory. Victory is just fucked up.

JeffZero

You know, I... think it really might just be Reccoa I'm remembering. She was the single worst thing about what I saw of Zeta. It wasn't just what she said; it was how she said it with conviction enough that I wasn't totally convinced Tomino figured I would disagree with it.

Reccoa, man.

Yeah Reccoa's a clusterfuck, even Emma shook her head at her by the end. Reccoa just did shit under the excuse that she acted the way she was because she was a female, but Reccoa didn't know what the fuck was going to make her happy. She sought it in Char, she sought it in Paptimus but she never sought it in herself. Emma needed no man to make her happy, she stood on her own two feet and controlled her own destiny, she wasn't a tool. I honestly thought Reccoa just wanted to die already cause she volunteered for like every suicide mission in the book.

Grimgerde is really one of the coolest looking mobile suit in Gundam. it actually remind me more of ZoE than Gundam

not sure I like Barbatos new form though, the new chest and shoulder looks like it's gonna limit articulation a lot, same with the high heel feet design, I imagine it'll be harder to make him stand.

Amuro does gradually develop into a better pilot quite nicely, at least until a certain point. It's pretty obvious when the staff realized that they needed to needed to kick the pace into over-drive with newtype hax.
It's kinda silly how Amuro suddenly starts wrecking Char when he finally has a comparable mobile suit to the Gundam, but it's forgivable.

And Zeta's pretty good about its portrayal of women outside of Reccoa, yeah. Emma's one of my favorite characters in the entire series.

The new HG Dom Prototype kit looks awesome. I don't normally like the design of the baddies, but I like this one.

It actually looks like it was developed out of a Zaku this time!

The color scheme is pretty cool as well.
rip giant baz though

Man, speaking of MSG... I've really blown through it! Just 14 more to go. I think I'll do some over the weekend.

After MSG, I should go:

08th -> IGLOO -> 0080 -> 0083, right? (And then Zeta, etc)

Yeah watching Zeta after MSG should really help you understand Zeta and how much the characters change from that show. I like how it's primarily focused on Char and Kamille. I mean yeah Amuro pops up be he doesn't really upstage Kamille that much, he's just there to help teach Kamille some stuff and talk to Char. I'm not sure but I also think Zeta goes more into the the earth politics than MSG did as well. It's got a weird tone, but the show is still very good. I've seen it at least 3 times. Or was it once dubbed and three times subbed I can never remember.

Gundam really needs to just go ahead and have a female lead who pilots the main Gundam. The biggest concern here is finding the right balance in the design of the Gundam, as I think there's merit in keeping the traditional masculine design (avoiding Nobel Gundam) but also merit in subverting the mainly masculine MS designs. The Gundam is normally inspired by a samurai, so perhaps go with a Onna-Bugeisha design complete with a beam-naginata? I feel like that'd be tasteful in touching upon woman's role in combat without going too far into gender stereotyping robots.

There's no logical reason a woman couldn't do it. Some might try and pull the "the real world military is overwhelmingly male!", but the fact the majority of main characters are young boys without any physical training shows that physical strength is no longer a barrier in a post-MS world.

I remember ZZ being pretty good at treating the girls in Judau's group as equally capable as the guys without dwelling on their place in the battlefield, whereas Zeta seems like it was trying to have a positive feminist message but the fact it seemed to dwell on men vs. women more than really necessary brought things down. The beginning of the show never struck me as having that theme play much of a part so it seemed weird when it began to pop up more and more towards the end-game.

Wing's probably the most straight up misogynist of all the Gundam considering the main girl falls in love with the hero after he threatens to kill her.

Why would they have to put any kind of effort into making the design for the gundam any less masculine? Even in Wing the Shenlong Gundam was in canon intended for a female pilot.

Watch Da Birdie

In canon, but I imagine the Gundam designs were created before they really settled on the exact story beats---and like most Gundam Shenlong was designed as the typical Gundam likely to be piloted by a guy.

I'm just saying I think it'd be interesting for a Gundam series to use less masculine-coded designs without going into obvious Nobel Gundam/Bearguy territory.

I'm not even debating that cause I've actually wanted a female gundam protagonist for a very long time to be honest with you. It would actually help the Gundam designs if they aimed for something different. I mean a gender flipped Wing crew actually wouldn't even be a bad idea. Basing the Gundam designs around something like these (I had to google image Onna-Bugeisha) would actually be pretty cool.

I disagree that makes Wing mysogynist in the least.

Women can be crazy and fall for idiots.

Wing also goes out if its way to tell us said Killer is far weaker then said woman, plus the amount of strong non sexualized women is among the highest in the meta franchise.

Don't get me wrong, I actually really liked Relena and found her far easier to stomach than the guys in Wing, but that was a really odd introduction for her lol.

Yeah, like I don't think Gundam need to have feminine body-shapes exactly, but if you consider the MS to be "gender-neutral" there's still a lot of them designed to resemble male armor, such as the Zaku having sort of a roman-style armor look to it with the tunic, and thus I think ones influenced by armor that woman wore would be a nice change to move towards a bit more gender representation in way the majority of fans would find digestible, which is probably the best we can hope from a money-minded franchise. Now, of course, there's less examples considering women traditionally having less combat roles than men but through art and mythology one could easily drum up a decent amount of armor designs to populate a whole series.

Noin, Une, Hilde, Sally, Dorothy and Catherine are god tier Gundam women. They're not propped up by some dude and they can hold their own in their own unique ways. The only one that I thought was really crazy was Releena. As I once stated earlier, "this isn't a cast full of Nina Purpleton's" I don't think this has been recreated in Gundam since. I mean sure there's the sole good female in a Gundam series, but the women in Wing are legit. No woman in this show is going to go to their ex boyfriends house and then drink herself stupid in the same way that Kujo did in 00.

You go through enough history and it's not too hard to find stories of females on the battlefield. Russia fielded female snipers in WWII to good success if I'm not mistaken.

I agree its odd, and it took until Glory for me to not Relena, but I just dont think that her loving a inept assassin is grounds for Misoginy lol.

She was one of the lesser problems though given the men I agree.

But in terms of armor you could give a Mobile Suit that's associated primarily with women, there's less examples to be found in history than men unfortunately. It'd be neat though to have Gundams themed after historic woman like "Gundam Pavlichenko", the most successful female sniper.
