The Gundam |OT2| Another 5 years of Gunpla, Origins, and GUNDAMUUUU!

Rome wasn't built in a day and neither is Gunpla, but this is fun so far. My method of standing over my bed over the box has been working and I've just been dumping out the nubs and shavings and shit occasionally wasn't too bad. I can tell I'm going to do another one and will eventually order HG Revive Mk II in Titans colors at some point. Go me I'm guilding Gunpla, I feel like Aila in GBF, maybe one day I'll do her Quebelay Papilion and Ms Sazabi.

Thought I was the only one who fucked my desthscythe up.
My center section of the wing back pack snapped.

Ugh so much hate for Hell EW.

And Shenlong is completed and posed.

Need to build the Sheild and dragon fang. Also those head fins are pure garbage.

Finished Gundam AGE. Those last episodes were a slog. Overall I think AGE was one of the worst Gundam series. I liked the idea of following a family across generations, but that led to a lot of problems. Having to introduce an almost entirely new cast of characters each generation meant most characters got little to no development. Other than a few stand out characters (Grodek, Zeheart, Asemu), most of the cast was bland. Asemu's arc was definitely the best and his interactions with Zeheart remained good into Kio's arc.

Kio was easily the worst protagonist. Asemu was the best with a great character arc and at least Flit was at least different being a racist old man and a shitty father. Kio on the other hand was just boring and his no-kill policy at the end felt weak. Say what you want about Kira, but it at least it was pretty badass when he started nonlethally taking out dozens of units at once.

The mech design was also pretty boring. The Federation suits were very bland. The Vagan suits were good as long as they weren't too monstrous. Gundam Legilis was definitely the stand out suit of the show. It reminded me if Jehuty crossed with a Gundam.

Now I'll be moving on to G-Reco. I'll have seen all of the Gundam series at that point, though I might rewatch 00 before officially calling it. It has been a really long time since I watched 00 and that was when it aired on SyFy.

So here's my progress for today:

Started G-Reco, you can tell this is a Tomino show because of the amount of times people get slapped. The pacing of these first two episodes is strange and I'm still trying to get a grasp of the tone and characters, but I'm enjoying it enough so far. This show definitely has a unique style for Gundam. The UC references are more blatant than I thought they would be. How far into the UC timeline is G-Reco supposed to be?

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Finished up Gundam X, gonna try and do a decent write-up of my thoughts.

What did those who watch it feel about the Frost Brother's ultimate fate? Does any other source expand on that, or is it just totally ambiguous.

That model is a huge piece of shit and I hate it. :/
I'm pretty sure everyone that has built it has fucked it up somehow.

Welp, finally made a list of all the kits I need to have my perfect display!
MGs: Exia Dark Matter, RX-78-2 Origin, and Sinanju.
HG: Revive Gouf, Gerbera Tetra
Then a new shelf! :D

I frankly don't remember exactly what happens to the Frost brothers. They didn't leave much of an impression on me. Post-apocalyptic Gundam is a great idea, but I don't feel like Gundam X capitalized on it to the fullest. Hell, I think Turn A Gundam does a better job of showing a post-apocalyptic (post-post?) world than X does. X kind of just washed over me. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't very memorable either.

You probably don't even need the instructions at this point.
I glance at it but really its pretty token at this point lol.

I spend more time looking at the CG shots of the model instead of the build instructions.

All of Shelong is now completed including the sheild. So the only thing left is the dragon fang, ill do that tomorrow after work and gym.

Far after UC ending and before Turn A
if you believe the production staff and marketing, or
500 years after Turn A
if you believe Tomino's wild post-show ramblings.

Either way, it's not worth thinking about too much since the references aren't really that important in the show itself.

A few pics of the build. Forgive my office, we need to clear it out.

Ill post up close shots tomorrow after the Fang is completed, but this will give a good size look at it and hoe ot scales with an RG and MP Transformer.
Wow that's a good looking Shenlong, they replaced the beam glaive with the trident? Maybe that'll be my third build. Looking at that makes me wonder if I fucked up the arms on mine.

Done with my SD Banshee. Took way more time than I expected and I have to say that I prefer making HG/MG models.

looking good!

Jaded, nice kit you got, hope you're enjoying it.

Yep.

The Ver Ka versions for Wufei all have Tridents (though Shenlong is one sided) including Epyon White.

Good, I guess? I'm glad it seems they got some sort of second chance and they don't seem to be up to any dastardly deeds any more.

I'm gonna go off on a tangent but it comes back to the question - I don't really like the Frost Brothers. Most people don't, I think. They're the weakest elements of a show I otherwise really like. They stick to an evil, bishounen archetype and don't really move much beyond that. We learn about their motivations midway through the series, but I don't feel anything until the very end, right when they're about to carry out the end of their plans and the Double X comes rising up in their monitors and Shagia just loses it. "Shoot the Double X!" "B... but, brother, it's not charged yet!" "I don't care!!"

Sure, he shows some emotion before that when that admiral in charge of the DX development project calls them failures but that feels forced by the script (at least the severity of the reaction). You'd think he'd have some harder skin at that point and this doesn't really feel in line with his imperturbable characterization up to that point. The bit at the end makes sense because the DX had been such a pain in the butt for them that it would be weirder to not react to it.

If it hadn't been for that scene at the end I don't think I would have cared that they survived and had a second chance.

Interesting, I guess the double sided thing is Altron exclusive. I wonder how hard Epyon is to build? It's got a great looking MG.
It's an amazing MG, and in my opinion the single best one to come out of the EW it's not the easiest though and because of things like the heat rod it is the one you have to put the most work into.

Still though, top 5 MGs of all time to me.

So pretty much that should be done when I'm better with MG's. I think HG Revive Mk II will be the last HG I do minus the odd Zeta sets that are only available in HG. Granted I might want to get better at not having wear marks on my pieces first.

Epyon is generally regarded as a good MG, but it's infamous for being loaded with tons of awful, awful nubs. It's not something I recommend to a newbie builder unless you're comfortable with all those marks on the kit.

Indeed.

The body isnt to bad, but the Wings, and accessories are HORRID as far as nubs go.

Ugh...thanks Jaded for giving me the heads up :)

That feeling when you get a hotly desired piece and its garbage do to QC :(

Well back to the build once gym is over, need to wash my mouth out to get rid of the bad Transformers taste with some Gundam.

Bear in mind that 3rd person shooters/action games have come a long way since 2000. :p

It's the only Gundam action game I felt that succeeded though. But that says more for the studios who have made Gundam games rather than JtJ. Definitely post your impressions.

I thought Encounters in Space and One Year War were way better when looking at PS2 Gundam games.

Just went back in and rebuilt my arms. Holy shit that was exhausting. It's like the easiest thing to fuck up, but hardest to fix. I put the two inner pieces in upside down or some shit.

I mean the instructions kind of made it seem like it doesn't matter how you do it, until you pay closer attention and notice that your Gundam has fucking Praying Mantis arms.
