I didn't watch much Mazinger and knew nothing of Great Mazinger so it didn't matter to me much. I did watch a lot of Grendizer though and was surprised when it turned out that the guy with the lame ship used to pilot a giant robot. Though yeah it's strange that they removed it from canon, though I feel that Grendizer didn't really mesh well with the world of Mazinger.

What, not a fan of the upgrade with a giant dragon-ship for an abdomen?
I think that objectively your right on Grendizer and it being removed from Canon isn't to big a deal. It was just the marketing that really drove me nuts.

Ugh Shin Dragon is soooooo bad. The true upgrade to Getter Dragon is Neo Getter, sadly Plasma Thunder is weak compared to Shine Spark.

I must say I'm digging the hell out of the Freedom 2.0 box. Maybe best box art since Proto Zero,

We rarely get box art of non-melee-centric suits wielding a beam saber. Pretty out of the ordinary. Incidentally, the design itself is really cool.
Indeed.

I wish we would see it more.

Maybe on Zero 2.0 we can get it wielding a green to match the Epyon box art.

Gundam Thunderbolt Ep3 is up on Japanese services now. They've officially announced that Ep4 will be released on April 22, with the Bandai Fanclub getting it on April 8.

Ep4 key visual:
I'm really curious about how they're going to end it. In the manga, the OYW part ends
with the Battle of A Bao A Qu and a sort of cliffhanger that leads directly into the next story arc that takes place after the war but before 0083. So I don't know how they'll give the anime a satisfying conclusion unless they go anime original or immediately announce that they're going to make Thunderbolt 2

Now that I'm home and can actually watch that RE:0096 commercial with sound:

I'm in love with that song. Why does the single not come out until June ;_;

EDIT: Holy hell, $374.85 for PG Unicorn, LED Set, and shipping over at GundamPlanet. Fuck it, I'm gonna do it. I can save up and have it by the end of April. PS4 can wait.

Yeah um damn that's expensive. That's a new camera lens for me...

The PG Final Battle Unicorn is over $400 on its own at GundamPlanet...

Errr.. I've read the first 3 volumes which I bought the other day, and I think it's kinda obvious how they'll end it.
Both fleets are destroyed, but the Zeon reinforcements arrive in time and Daryl beats Io. They get rescued and Io is taken prisoner. There's a conclusion to the core arc in the Thunderbolt sector but both men are still alive and will one day kill each other.

Thunderbolt 3 was pretty cool. The adaptation is pretty close to the manga but they cut some scenes which I really liked. They completely excluded Balls from the battle in the big battle for example, and there was a pretty cool scene with a Ball in the manga... >_<

It's interesting to compare the Psycho Zaku vs Fleet scene in Thunderbolt 3 with the Char Zaku vs Fleet scene at the start of Origin 1. One is 2D, one is CG, both are similar in concept. The CG one in Origin definitely benefits from more dynamic camerawork and more debris detail in general, but it's pretty cool to see a 2D Zaku do super fast evasive maneuvers and stuff too.

Interestingly enough. Hajime Katoki storyboarded Thunderbolt 3. He stuck pretty close to the manga panels though, so it wasn't that unique, but it's cool that he's doing a bit more directing-level stuff at Sunrise these days.

After more hours than what should be acceptable, I'm finally done with the Altron's inner frame. Wonder if I should paint it now or wait until I build the hole thing. Also, wonder if I should go outside the official color scheme or not.

Have you seen Katoki's short "A Farewell to Arms" that was part of Short Peace? It's about a weapons disposal team in power armor trying to hunt down an unmanned mech in an abandoned city. It's kind of a weird hybrid of 2D/3D animation but it looks great.

Outside.

The green is okay, but really it's just two much with the all white legs that I always think Alton looks better in custom colors.

Finished part of Akatsuki. Nice design but the head build is awful.

I'm also not a fan of the white head, makes it look too much like a protagonist Gundam.
I'm considering coloring the frame red but I have no idea what to do with the body from there.

What's Unicorn 11 even about? Is it just a long epilogue? Or are they seeding stuff for a sequel or something?

I don't think we actually know yet.

Unicorn already has a sequel. Hathaway's Flash is very much the canonical sequel. Bandai has been really pushing XI Gundam lately as well, which is the main suit of that. I wouldn't be surprised if this was some sort of bridge into that series so they can hype it even more if they're going to end up adapting it.

No clue. It doesn't release for a few more days. I have seen that the title is supposedly "Phenex Hunting" or "Hunting Phenex".

Late Edit: According to someone on mechatalk, vol. 11 is just a repackaging of the Sinanju Stein and Phenex side stories as a standard release. But we'll know for sure in a few days.

Post if you're alive, JadedWinter. Usually, he's the one keeping the OT going.
Lol I'm still kicking I'm quite busy sorry. Currently busy trying to make sense out of a half ass shonen series. I've been meaning to ask why the Phenex is on the volume 11 cover. I always just thought it was a palette swapped Unicorn.

Please tell me they're going to make this and Beltorchika's Children. I don't care if Nightingale is uglier than the Sazabi.

I've been saying I think Sunrise is going to end up adapting both Beltorchika's and Hathaway's once they finish The Origin and fully turn that into a spinoff UC they can iterate on forever without worrying about F91/Victory. A lot of people think I'm crazy, but after the success of both The Origin and Unicorn it seems like the kind of safe move they'd make.

I actually think UC would benefit a bit without some of Tomino's insanity.

I'm not a big fan of the mechanical designs in Hathaway's Flash. Too many spikes and edges. I do like the Gustav Karl that appeared in Unicorn, though.

I'd really love to see an anime adaptation of Sentinel, but due to copyright issues (Model Graphix technically owns the rights to it) it will probably never see the light of day. S Gundam and the Zeta Plus showed up in Build Fighters and Unicorn respectively though, so that may be sign of progress since they used to be really anal about Sentinel units appearing in any official media.

Maybe I missed it being posted here, but someone at Gundam Planet sure doesn't like Ein very much.

http://www.gundamplanet.com/hg-ibo-graze-ein.html

That description is great.

I gotta agree though lol. IBO characters are pretty forgettable and one dimensional for the most part, but ein and his mobile suit took the cake.i was coming to like the show in general but this slapped it back down. Guess the typical crazy because mad science trope was too good to pass on...

Does anybody like Ein?

The correct answer is no.

That description is wonderful, and whoever wrote it deserves a raise.

I love Ein. For how much the show likes to wax on about how misfortunate the orphans were, it took over 20 episodes until I got to see an antagonist character be an actual threat and get named character kills. I didn't think much of Ein when he was just Jerid-lite for most of the series, but him and Gaelio have really gotten a lot more endearing in the recent arc.

Ein is literally a robot systematically killing people.
The show isn't being subtle at all about the symbolism either. We're supposed to hate him.

Edit: Sorry for the double post. I meant to edit this into the last one but it slipped my mind.
