The Gundam |OT2| Another 5 years of Gunpla, Origins, and GUNDAMUUUU!

Wing is just so boring it's like a cliff noted saga of early UC along with lots of 90s uggo and bishi boys.

I hate Ookies designs in W. The only suits I really like are the Tallgeese and Taurus.

Thank you based Katoki for EW tho.

G Unit is kinda trash too but I love the Aesclapius and have a soft spot for the Hydra from playing battle master 2 to death on psone.
I agree with most of this.

G Unit is weird because it's entire Gimick became the core of OO's GN Particles as far as movement and combat.

Plus it has Hathaway Flash size Gundam's in the second smallest AU so it's just odd.

Wings entire political landscape is so dumb and makes no sense. It's why I have such a hard time with it. They put no effort into the world building.

I honestly don't even know if the political structure of Wing is a dictatorship or an aristocracy. It just seems to switch around so much.

Wings' suits are way too over developed to the point of being ridiculous. Not as bad as Seed in hat regard but still bad.

Just heard the theme song for Origin IV again. Moriguchi should do a theme son for every UC show going forward

I sort of have a love/hate relationship with Wing. I really enjoyed it in my teen years when it was first airing on America (Still preferred U.C. era stuff though even at the time) but rewatching it a few years ago was really disappointing seeing how sloppy the writing is (Being a writer that's pretty important to me.). Yet it still holds a sort of special place in my heart and I do generally like most of the Gundam designs.

I actually haven't rewatched Endless Waltz since it first came out on DVD though. I kind of wonder if that holds up better.

Also, update on getting my Dad (mostly) chronologically through U.C. Era Gundam. We're coming up on the end of 8th MS team, and I've managed to get a copy of the MS Igloo series so we'll be jumping back in the timeline to watch that next (which is fine, I mean, we have to jump back to watch Origin IV anyway.)

We're just two episodes way from finishing and about to hit the big controversial
deserter
part. I'm really interested to see which side of it he comes down on. He didn't think much of Shiro early on, but came around on him over the last few episodes.

According to reference book, it is the paramilitary wing of Roma feller. But that is never mentioned on camera
The story is pretty ridiculous and it's probably the least interesting Gundam I've seen so far in this marathon.

But they definitely mention this on the show.

It's a god awful show. It's ugly visually. The plot of each episode can be reduced down to "engineering team comes up with something cool, but wah wah wah we are handicapped by our own side".

The Zudah episode is kind of good, but otherwise, this show is not just a blight on UC, it is the absolute worst thing the entire franchise has to offer

Even worse than the live action series? I have no plans on watching it cause it was made with bad CG.

While the plot of each Igloo episode is pretty formulaic and repetitive, the general premise of Zeon engineers fielding increasingly ridiculous prototype weapons for an increasingly propaganda-driven war effort was something I enjoyed watching. There really aren't enough Gundam stories of regular soldiers just doing regular soldier things without a romantic or dramatic subplot, and I could enjoy that (mostly) in Igloo.

Then again, it doesn't really operate on any major plot of its own like 08th MS or other OVAs. Instead, it's mostly just set at various points during the OYW, so you end up getting alternate perspectives of stuff like Operation British, Loum, Odessa, A Baou Qu, where they usually play a tangentially insignificant role. So I guess there's a lack of "significance" to the overall plot, especially since the recurring characters themselves are barely developed or given focus until the last two episodes.

I still liked it though, enough that if it weren't for the CG and Igloo 2, I might consider it among my favorites compared to all the sidestories/OVAs.
Or maybe I just have shit taste.
Igloo 2 was trash regardless though.

Finished up the arms and legs on the Full Armor Gundam. The legs took almost twice as long as I usually take thanks to the plastic sheath covers the joints. Sure it has a unique look to the kit, but I don't think I'll use them if I ever get another kit that has them again. Now I just need to do the armor, back pack, and weapons.

up to Turn A episode 46:

Wow, Turn A
gundam is powerful. i still think all the antagonists are a bit cheesy. it's hard to take them seriously as they have all comedy bits. i was hoping for a truly sinister boss that kills well liked characters. no one out of the main cast really died. it's a bit too soft. a bad guy needs to kill someone close and devastate the main characters emotional stability. it was cool to see them discover universal century history though.

I've skimmed the episodes just to make sure they play, yeah the CGI isn't exactly top of the line, but otherwise it didn't look truly god awful. It does sound like it could be a tad repetitive though.

Hmm the opposing take. It sounds kind of like I expected it to be, which is fine, I like the idea of inconsequential side stories on the one year war, stories about the people who may not have ultimately mattered at the center of the conflict, but died and fought all the same (kinda what I like about Thunderbolt.) Anyway I ran both these posts by my Father, and he's game for trying it (We'll even watch Igloo 2 even if that seems more evenly panned :p) I guess we'll find out if he wants to disown me or not after this.

Igloo is fantastic. One of the best entries in the franchise even if the CG is dated now. It's up there with 08th in terms of showing what it is like for your average guy caught in the war

Epyon is up there in terms of all time worst Gundam designs. It and Virsago.

It's a very off the wall design, especially in Wing. If there were other suits in its franchise that had a slightly similar... base of design then maybe. I slightly like it but yes its not a great design after looking at it for so many years.

Y'all are nuts. Almost all of the Katoki redesigns of the Wing suits are worse than the Okawara originals (only the original Altron is worse than Katoki's imo - it really is a bloated mess).

Just to take the Wing itself for example - Wing TV has this striking shield design with a ton of sides, a fin, and a glowing green bit at the end. It's sharp too so you can stab people with it too (like that time Heero bashed it into an Ares - that was awesome). Plus it opens up to reveal a beam saber! This is all awesome. Its wings do... actual wing things, like split apart. Its rifle isn't stupidly long for a mobile suit of its size.

And then Wing ver. ka. It has a rifle that is stupidly big. It shield is just this boring, oblong thing (ya ain't stabbin' anybody with that). Its wings are just these big hunks of metal with a bunch of different colors haphazardly spread through them without any strong sense of separation. And its body just feels like something stolen from the Wing Zero ver. ka, which makes sense of course but the whole design itself felt like an afterthought from the WZC. Or maybe they were designed at the same time but that doesn't make it any better.

Edit: More - Wing TV has these cool jet boosters on the back of its legs! Kinda like something heavy designed for flight you might imagine would have. It also has those neato claws on its forearms which steady the rifle and look like actual talons in bird mode. The Katoki version just has these sharp things on the forearms that look like Katoki felt compelled to add them there to not diverge too much from the original.

I started Turn A while I was away. Pleasantly surprised by Loran (though Im just 10 or episode in). The mobile suit is kind of ugly, but otherwise I like the setting. I hope we go to space soon.

Almost done with Seed Destiny though. Shinn is definitely in my top 3 gundam pilots (Heero, Shinn, Sai Saici)

Shinn's just lucky he wasn't in Zeta...Emma would've put the boots to his ass.

Wing Ver Ka's Sheila is just as dangerous and it actually had the opening Gimick as well but it was scraped.

Also Wing Ver KA was designed even earlier then Zero and it was just reused when Zero got even more additions.

Like I may hate Wing TV but nearly none of your critique makes any sense.

>_> How so? You took two things I said and dismissed the rest. You can definitely disagree with my sense of style, but why do you think the ver. ka is cooler? I tried to communicate my feelings on the matter as best I could.

Also, how is the ver. ka shield as dangerous? It's a rounded point. I mean, I guess you could bash people with the thing, but it sure as heck ain't doing that 'stab the pointy end' into an Ares' face the original can. Like, what practical thing can you do with it (practical insofar as fighting with giant robots blahblahblah) the original can't do?

Like I said, when Wing ver. ka and WZC were designed doesn't make too big of a deal. The body design fits the WZC with the 'angel motif everywhere' more. Wing ver. ka feels like a mishmash of design elements, allot of them mired in Okawara's original which is super-roboty and over the top (and better for it imo). The WZC doesn't trap itself as much in the original Wing Zero's design and is definitely one of the katoki redesigns I like more (even if I still like Wing Zero TV more). It commits fully to what katoki's going for, but the Wing ver. ka is in this bizarre middle ground and it just doesn't work for me at all.

... I don't actually know what Wing ver ka is going for design wise. The same kind of angel deal what with all the furls in the wings? Or maybe it's just supposed to resemble a bird more for it. The colors are all over the place though (again, the WZC just does its thing there). They copy allot of them from the TV version but those are more super roboty (the sharp color contrast there fits more with the blocky design on TV Wing) and on katoki's sleeker design they just look totally out of place.

Kamille gets backhanded...90 seconds into Zeta Gundam. I knew it started early, forgot just how early it started.

Zeta can almost be summarized as Kamille gets smacked, joins military force to smack people back, continues to get smacked. Other people are also occasionally smacked, or even smacked by Kamille.

Whelp

Hope Bandai learns from the demand for this and gives us more non-Seed MBs in the future.

I was watching, and I'm quite bummed I missed out. Hopefully more will trickle out.

Holy hell. Well, it does look glorious. I'm not surprised it sold out but that speed is ridiculous. Jesus.

i hope us stores like BBTS will be opening pre-orders. all i know blue fin distribution has been getting less and less shipments of metal builds since strike freedom. MB Exia reprint didn't even make it to the US yet. there's all these US stores that cancelled their orders due to lack of stock. (it may never come in)

i'm hoping F91 makes it.

Gaddamn son, already that far in. Going to start it this week myself now that I got free time with Halloween being over and only 2 days of real work today. Also last two episodes of Macross tonight.
i finished Turn A

ending felt like
ms 08th team. i mean just like it. except the whole show felt like it. i couldn't feel this sow had any real bad guys. i'm not sure if it was on purpose or not but no one died except a few side characters that were introduced for a couple of episodes. i'm really not sure what to make of the ending. just felt random and weird without the newtype powers as an excuse for bullshit. TBH, i never liked Zeta ZZ and CCA's newtype endings. bc the shift from mech battles to outer body experiences/psychic powers to defeat an ending enemy just doesn't jibe with me much. Turn A's ending just comes without any climax in the story. i'm expecting Guin to be this major master mind. who plays everyone. he does nothing....
episode 49 they capture the Turn A gundam and give it back Loran so easy and cheap the next episode. Guin is then out of the picture. it's almost silly. Loren's final fight is so anti climatic... the ending is another double identity switch that makes no sense at all. i'll stop my rant here. all in all it was enjoyable but i wish the ending was better.

Zeta can almost be summarized as Kamille gets smacked, joins military force to smack people back, continues to get smacked. Other people are also occasionally smacked, or even smacked by Kamille.
Kamille gets smacked by adults, joins the army to smack up adults, continuous to get smacked up by slightly younger adults, and physically assaulted by an old ass man, smacks up Char twice, continuous to get smacked some more. Even fucking Bright got beat up in Zeta. Makes me wonder who smacked Kamille the most? Emma?
