I would imagine so.

Alton EW has been one of the more demanded suits, and both TG2 and TG3 sold out before ship on their runs for the most part so if someone is interested in Altron I'd really recommend pre orders.

Ugh, going to have to order expensive ass Altron to complete the collection.

Speaking of which, is there any canonical explanation of what the fangs are good for?

They've always seemed like completely useless weapons. Especially the EW versions that don't have flamethrowers.

I've always assumed it was for crushing tags.

If the strength is high enough then It actually makes more sense to have the crusher vs a flame thrower which would do nothing to the gundams.

Just pre-ordered off gentei kits.. 9955JPY.

It hurts, but it's worth it. Now let's hope my girlfriends mom doesn't come over to our place and clean my(SPOTLESS AND IMMACULATE BOOKSHELF THAT DOESN'T EVER NEED FUCKING CLEANING) bookshelf and knock it over and break the faceplate off it like she did my Tallgeese II.

Wasn't thrilled to order another one.

the idea is to grab enemy opponent and bring them to close range. EW version have longer range and can double as shield.

I guess, but seems like it'd me more useful to just shoot someone. Actually I guess I've always been peeved with grappling weapons in various gundam universes. When you see MSes dodge all sorts of beam weapons, it's hard to buy anyone getting grapped by a wire based weapon

On the other hand, now that I think about it, I guess the fangs could be good if they could penetrate the defensors the Virgo suits had.

I think they're supposed to launch like a spring and quickly catch someone by surprise. The large and wide claws of the EW Altron with their flexible extenders make a bit of sense.

Finished the entire body so far, all that's left to do are both the Oowashi and Shiranui backpacks.

There are a couple nubs despite the undergating but it isn't a big deal because they're not that noticeable. The only bad nub in my opinion is for the twin beam savers but that really is a non issue to me. The rest can be minimised with good knife skills. Take your time building this.

Everything is pretty sturdy for the most part and I would say this kit is almost as good as a Bandai kit if it weren't for some quality control issues. The kit itself is built well, for the most part you won't be breaking pieces or having parts fall apart with how strong and tight the finish is. It might just because I added 2 coats of Future gloss coat before building but it is going to be tight fittings all around.

However, you're gonna need to do some sanding and know your way around a hobby knife because some pieces require A LOT of force to put together, so make your life easier so that you don't murder your thumbs like I did.

The only parts you really have to sand is the eyepiece to put the head together and the grey handles for the beam sabers.

The only loose part I have so far is just the connection between the foot and the ankle but that is no problem since you can just paint the ball joint and then the ankles and feet will be a non issue.

So far I really enjoy the build and I would recommend it to people who want a 1/100 Akatsuki Gundam and for people who are experienced in building. This is by no means a beginner friendly kit but I would recommend it as it is well worth the $60 for all the extra effect parts you get and the great gold finish.

Pretty good for a third party Taiwanese company. It truly deserves the name 1/100 Scale Bastard Grade.

Waiting for N-Y to put up their Altron preorder so I can see their shipping estimate. Might end up going with SamuelDecal if N-Y seems really high.

Gentei Kits for me is at 8480円、Samuel gave me an estimate for 8000円 flat. I'm in California tho. Will probably stop by Tatsu Hobby to see if they have preorders up yet.

Okay, someone explain to me why a show from 1979 has more varied and interesting character design than a show from 2007.

Mobile Suit Gundam

Gundam 00

Or even better, compare the Zabi family and the Innovades.

That's just because it's 00 Season 2 art.

Season One 2007

Gundam Unicorn 2010

Gundam AGE 2011

Reconguista in G 2014, Best Gundam in like 5 years.

I haven't watched any Gundam in a long, long, long time. What's available in NA right now on streaming or on disc? Is there a legit way to watch Build Fighters/Build Fighters Try?

They're all on youtube in English/Japanese/Chinese/Korean but the international channel cycles through series every 4 months.

At the moment they should have Gundam 00, Gundam Seed HD, and Gundam Build Fighters and Build Fighters Try.

They'll switch some of those series with like Seed Destiny, Unicorn, and maybe some older series too once 4 months pass.

Nico Nico streams anime but I don't believe Gundam is up on Nico.

Nippon-Yassan ended up being 8615 with registered air mail shipping. Not too bad. Seems like everyone's in the same range. Accidentally ordered it from them because I forgot when I hit pay later there wasn't an extra confirmation. Since they're all so close and I don't have to pay until December, I think I'll stick with them.

A similar MG would be around 5k shipped at a similar speed. Means Altron's got about a $25 premium. It's more expensive, sure, but it's not too bad. Lack of being able to combine shipping with normal kits and they short order window are the real killers.

I just finished making the Shiranui pack and I'm moving on to the Oowashi pack right now.

My Bandai MG 1/100 Strike Rouge Ootori next to the Dragon Momoko 1/100 Akatsuki for scale. My Akatsuki's knees are bent so if they were to stand side by side, Akatsuki would be a little taller than the Strike.

The coolest thing about owning the Akatsuki is that the Oowashi and Shiranui backpacks are compatible with Bandai's Strike Gundam models as well as the other Dragon Momoko Launcher/Sword Strike. If you own the Strike/Rouge and maybe even the other GATX MG models you'll be able to plug either backpack in and use it for your own custom.

If you have the Strike Rouge Ootori, you'll be able to actually combine the Ootori backpack with another backpack, Aile/Perfect/etc. In the picture, you see my Strike Rouge with the Ootori backpack and the Shiranui Backpack equipped behind it.

It's really useful for if you want to do customs of want to show off one of the Akatsuki's other included backpacks.

The Shiranui pack itself is really big and it adds to the size of the Akatsuki. I will be able to do a full review once I finish the Akatsuki and the Hyaku Shiki 2.0.

I'll also post scans of the entire bootleg Akatsuki manual for any of you guys thinking to buy the kit. The manual is as thick as my Full Armor Unicorn's and it comes with a shit ton of runners, 2/3s of it is all gold runners.

Is it just me or are the last few episodes of G Gundam a diatribe against Japanese militaristic nationalism?

That or an apology. "Sorry we stereotyped every nation but Japan, here's the leader of space Japan declaring war on everybody with his evil Japan-shaped super weapon."

Just finished the Oowashi backpack for the Akatsuki. Size comparison to the Strike Ootori backpack.

Here is the feature where you combine both the Ootori backpack and the Oowashi backpack. It looks even more ridiculous when you combine the Ootori and Shiranui backpacks.

Size comparison of the Shiranui Akatsuki and the Strike Rouge Ootori+Oowashi backpacks.

These two take up a shit ton of space... Will do a proper review and impressions after I finish the Hyaku Shiki 2.0.

Have fun, Aila is best girl.

Rinko is.

Nippon-Yassan is already sold out of Altron. Crazy. If you're looking to get him, maybe grab a pre-order ASAP at your chosen retailer.

Really? God damn it. I was gonna wait a bit and see which stores have it by the end of the week. Guess I'll order it after leaving work from Gentei Kits.

Still Rinko cuz based Mitsuishi.
What is a bust? I am a hips man.
I'm an ass and legs man so I don't blame you, I just liked Aila's character and her suits. Quebeley Pappillion was nice and so was her Ms Sazabi, just wished it was used more.

I honestly thought the Altron was an unpopular suit so I'm quite surprised the model is selling out this fast, cool to see since it's my favorite Wing suit.

Mind the messy workbench. Taking the ver ka Hi-Nu and turning the purple into Lavender to be more like the recolor we all know and love.

KENyc4U.jpg

I've since done the funnels and other pieces... but I don't know if my little 3 oz Testor's light-blue will be quite enough. to finish coloring the rest of the dark Purple. I guess there goes another 5 dollars, lmao.

Does anyone have any backlogged gunpla kits they'd be willing to trade? I got a few kits that are duplicates or were cheap clearances that I probably won't build.

You wanna take my Sazabi Ver Ka off my hands. No idea if I'll finish my Shin Musha either. Or RG Destiny.

Sazabi ver Ka too big for me. RG Destiny is one of the kits i need to get rid of.

Maybe i should just give these away. GundamGAF raffle! or something.

What've you got in your backlog? I don't have anything currently in mine to trade (I've actually worked through it all), but I might be interested if you're raffling something off. Been looking for something to build while I wait for Altron to hit.

Hyaku Shiki 2.0 size comparison with MG FAUC. Working on the wing binders and throwing up on an action base soon.

FAUC is still working but making all the weapons and doing all decals is suffering.

If there's a raffle going on I'd for sure get in on that.

First time posting here but I've been lurking for a while. Got into gunpla over Christmas and have been thinking about going hard into building. I'd really like to learn to paint and all that, but at the moment I'm still just having a hard time with cleaning off nubs without jacking up the plastic, and I'm not completely sure on how to sand properly. Gunpla is hard

I don't even sand my nubs tho most of the hardcore people religiously sand.

if your nubs seem bad, just cut away from the runners more and slowly cut in with your nippers and hobby knife until it is flush. Try to keep cycling through hobby knife blades so that you get a clean cut and avoid white stress marks.

If there are small scratches, it's nothing that some fingernails and later can't fix a bit.

Like the fanciest tool I have other than my paints is my NT Cutter hobby knife. I use ¥150 nail clippers to cut my gunpla. Even on poverty tier you can make stuff look good so long as you're patient.

Couple of tips for someone just starting out:

First, buy a good set of nippers. Tamiya's side cutters are good. The one's I have are from Xuron, have orange handle and cost me like $25 on amazon. A good set of flush side cutters will cut super cleanly and make cutting down nubs infinitely easier.

Second, get a good hobby knife and a bunch of blades. I use the X-acto Z Series. You can get them at Walmart or any other major store. Make sure to replace the blade as soon as you feel it getting dull at all. The most dangerous thing about of knife is a dull blade. Can cause you to bounce off in all sorts of unexpected ways and give yourself a nasty gash. Made that mistake myself. The 70 cents or so a blade will cost you is worth it in the long run.

I can't recommend this brand enough. Like these are the best knives I can get and they're pretty cheap too. NT Cutter has a lot of blade variety and the blades they make are top tier. The standard blades are 30 degrees and are very thin and extremely sharp.

I can't use Tamiya or Xacto equivalent anymore with how good this is. These are like what ¥800?

The one above is the one I use for all my needs since it has a swivel for cutting in circular cuts. The swivel is really useful with how it is angled and the foam grip is comfortable. Really useful for cutting shapes for plaplate and for scribing panel lines and general clean up.

I currently am using an x-acto knife with several replacement blades as well as some xuron side cutters ( at least I'm pretty damn sure they're side cutters, not positive on all the terminology). The general guide I've seen, is cut with nippers off the runner so there's a lot of sprue left on, then cut so there's a little bit of nub, then shave that off with the x-acto. But it seems that even when I do that the plastic still gets stressed and I get white marks everywhere. Would paint pretty much nullify that problem?

And lots of times then connections to the runner are ultra thick or weirdly placed so its hard to cut off the runner without damaging something.

I may just be trying to do it too quickly though, not taking as much time as I should.

Are you cutting it parallel to the runner? The connections are like that for a reason and if you look closer you see how the piece is molded and where to cut. You need to cut parallel because that is where the connection is weaker. If you cut it perpendicular, there will be a stress mark. Take a look at the runner and see how the piece is on it. You should be cutting as parallel to the piece as possible.

A good example for this is cutting fish or cutting meat. There is a certain angle you need to cut so that it is a nice clean filet.

Something I do to gauge how to get a nice cut is to get my nippers in between and feel the piece, then as I cut I pull sideways parallel and it always gives me a nice straight cut for me to clean up.

Painting and priming mitigates your problem because you cover it up but you will still want to do as good a job as possible so that you don't have start nubs or crap you notice after painting.
