Victory Gundam Ver Ka Gundam V2 1:100 Scale Master Grade Model Kit

the wing effect parts are also releasing later this month. Hopefully they don't sell out too fast

v2gundam_rv28.jpg

yeah, it's hard to wait, go for it! good practice decaling.

normally, panel line first as many decals over lap panel lines.
I am going to just finish my 2.0 Rx since I have two day shipping from Amazon. So everything should be here by Monday-Tuesday.

I personally don't see the value in the High Resolution kit at all. Great if you like metal parts I guess?

A MG Barbatos could look just as good with moderate effort.

1/100 Barbatos done (without weapon), I'll make the weapon and then do panel line next. and maybe remove the pink sticker and try painting them, although I don't have the exact color paint so probably gonna change the color for those pink parts.

^ looks HOT Callibretto =]

really like this kit so far, now I'm wondering what I should do with the 1/144 version, lol. because of the hype for IBO, I bought the 1/144 first before I decide to give the 1/100 a try. so I had both version, even bought the weapon parts for the 1/144 version too.

Nice kit^^ wish it came with the mace but it seems to have the same sticker placement as the 1/144 which makes sense

And the ibo 1/144 kits are so cheap you could probably buy a 1/144 and 1/100 and still come out cheaper than a mg kit.

So I dove headfirst into some model kits after not building anything for almost 15 years. I got a stack of boxes (mostly HG, one intimidating RG Zaku) and decided to test my fundamentals first with a cheap FG Zaku II i hope to finish in a day or two. I want my next model to be really thorough, mainly filling in the seams before priming and painting. How should I handle attaching the limbs to the torso without just forcing the joints through if I want to detail everything before the final assembling?

Two more episodes of SEED down! Sadly, my friend and I weren't feeling it this session.

I don't know how I managed to think Flay's name was Lacus, because Lacus wasn't actually introduced until these two episodes. Flay is the girl I was talking about before! Damn, my mistake. Well anyway, Lacus. I'm not a fan of the whole idol thing and this was a particularly wooden portrayal of it. "At least we got the obligatory chick-singing episode out of the way," my friend commented, naively, before we found her doing it again in the next one. Then again, a lot of my beef with idol culture is that I find it exemplifies weird hyper-materialism and extreme youth-obsession, and in Lacus' case that's not really going on here... so I guess it's not all bad. She just seems... I don't know. Bland.

And everything slowed down because of her. The crew of the Archangel is acting particularly weird, even by this dub's standards. I did like the scene between Lacus and Flay, however. The racism toward Coordinators was on full display there.

On the Zaft side of the fence, things were better. We meet Athrun's father, and he looks nothing like him. Athrun's mom must be the most blue-eyed girly-woman this side of the Sol System. Well, whatever. I liked the politics here.

I'm giving SEED a 6/10 at the moment, but I think my friend is targeting closer to a 4/10, unfortunately. He's pretty picky about his Gundam, though; you can safely magnify whatever opinions I express to the tenth degree to arrive at his spin on things. (For example, I found Zeta kind of disappointing, and he found it flat-out terrible. I happen to generally enjoy AU works more than UC; he scoffs at the thought of quality UC. He'd probably get torn apart in most Gundam circles, haha.)

The fuck at Zeta being shit. I don't have a problem with your opinion with SEED but Zeta being terrible what.

Lacus is pretty interesting as a character she's calculative and manipulative. I won't touch on whatever notion you have on idols but Lacus isn't really boring either.

I never watch gundam english before so i do not know difference and i don't know if SEED HD is english? I do not know english differences if there are any.

Really you're just feeling the brunt of a 50 episode paced series, one from 2003.

It's going to be slow and have issues because it's a product of a time where 50 episode runs were a thing and things weren't as streamlined. SEED especially since it's like a 35 episode show prolonged into a 50 one with all the asset reuse and pacing since they knew SEED was going to be a commercial success.

I'm just laughing at bandai always making the most useless shit and the fact that there are enough hard core fans to eat up all their merchandise. their r&d and marketing amazes me at how they can brand literally anything, a piece of trash, Gundam or iDOLM@STER or PreCure or whatever and still make a ton of money because people will still buy it.

So I dove headfirst into some model kits after not building anything for almost 15 years. Well first off you should always completely build a kit before painting or doing anything first so that you can know what to paint and look out for in the kit first. There's no reason to detail or do what you need to do if you don't really know how the kit will work in terms of articulation, joints, etc.

Bandai kits are generally not very tight so you're able to build and take the kit apart without forcing it and breaking it. You really just get a hobby knife and loosen the piece and take it apart.

Even then since you're saying that you plan on removing seams with putty and cement, it shouldn't even be a problem since you need to build the kit first before even filling in seams anyway.

Do you have experience painting or modeling? I suggest doing only straight builds so you understand your kit first before going ahead and even doing seam filling, priming, and painting. Skipping building and doing all that other stuff first will just make your life a headache if something goes wrong in between and you end up having to buy a replacement kit or scratch build parts.

Your friend isn't alone, I find Zeta to be trash as well.

SEED picks up as it moves on, though I'm weird as I love Flay and find her to be the best character in the show.

Flay's alright. I think she's decent, even. So far, anyway. Her prejudices add depth and she hasn't been completely overbearing or anything.

It will be interesting to see how you find Flay s the show goes on.

Most tend to sour on her, but I will say by the end that I find her to be amazing and easily more fun the Jesus, Lacus, and Mr. Pimp.

Zeta bad... just. I mean you have to at least like ZZ or 0079 or 08MS...

Shit, forget it.
0cc86ef2.gif

Flay has depth and you're not supposed to like her you'll see how layered she is later. She's a good character. Lacus is similar without the crazy.

Really the character I liked in SEED was Murrue because she was the most grounded and it was interesting seeing her entire perspective going from her position to becoming the captain of Archangel to all the other shit that happens to her.

Her maturing throughout SEED was probably the most consistent aspect of the show and it kept things in perspective for me with all the crazy shit going on.

I haven't watched all of ZZ; the first half was killing me. 08th MS Team is OK, but when I rewatched it in 2012 I was pretty disappointed because I thought I was going to love it again only to realize I had some real issues with it. :\ I do like the original movie trilogy versions of 0079, and my UC-tepid friend did, too, even.

I love ZZ, but I think 0079 and all other UC shows aside from Unicorm so Zera, Victory, Stardust, 08th are pure fucking garbage.

Nu is one of the best designs in Gundam though.

Thanks that helps. I have done a lot of modeling in the past but I'm pretty rusty. Still not sure exactly when I would want to fill in the torso seams but I haven't dealt with the fancy new joints either. Fully assembling it first sounded like it would make detailing daunting, but I'll give it a try on my next one.

Not really? It's not really that difficult to take a kit apart and detailing is better done when you have the limbs done. If you mean panel line scribing and making more panel lines, then yes do that before building, but everything else is after.

I can only imagine how tedious it would be to weather or do damage or do any kind of custom before building without knowing the quirks of the kit first. It's not like you could really fill in seams without building first anyway.

I hope this helps enough? Just take your time and familiarize yourself with kits again. No need in doing anything and potentially ruining your kit the first go.

I shall continue with the SEED! It's part of the current show rotation my friend and I have alongside a few other things, though, so we usually only knock out around 5-8 episodes a week. D: But we'll get there!

Have to get another replacement UW-04 Devastator from HLJ as the replacement they sent me had even worse QC issues. I seem to have hit the QC lottery with that figure since all the Transformers forums aren't filled with reports of him being bad in general.

Can't do a straight up replacement this time so I have to get a refund and rebuy it. Since he's big, it means I get to throw some gundam models in there and basically ship them for dirt cheap. Definitively shipping out my V2 and think I'm going to grab the RX-78 Origin and Barbatos Long Range. Might grab some more IBO HGs, but I think I'll see how this one goes and add them to my next shipment if I like the line.

Give it some time, you'll probably 180 your opinion on her. God damn at all this Zeta bashing I'm reading, still best OP's though, waifu's as well. I just love the Four, Fa, Rosamia and Emma foursome of perfection.

Well, the Zeta bashing is damned peculiar in my experience; I don't think anyone has ever agreed with me that it wasn't good, let alone agreed with my friend that it was patently bad.

I still need to rewatch it subbed someday, though, and probably on my own, free of the influence of my peers. Between the dub and my friend falling asleep every third episode it was a less than ideal environment.

How could somebody fall asleep on all that butch smacking. Zeta Gundam is the one show where every argument ended with someone getting smacked across the chops. Even Bright got beat down. Yeah it's worth a rewatch and the dub did kill it a bit. It's still better like way better than 00 season 2.

Damn is victory that bad?

I think JadedWriter and I are the only two people here who like Victory. Well, I think it is just middling for a Gundam series, but I don't dislike it. I think Victory does a good job showing the atrocities of war and how that can affect people. Uso is one of the youngest protagonists in Gundam and he sees more terrible crap than any other. Sadly, the mech design is flat out terrible besides the V2 and the villains aren't great.

I honestly think that EvilKatarn was just turned off by the sheer heavy handedness and insanity of it. Victory is pretty much grim dark as fuck with a higher death toll than Zeta Gundam. Uso has seen the most shit out of any Gundam protag that I can even think of. I'm not sure why people hate the villains, other than the fact that they're just inept, insane or insanely inept. The Char clone is just a super jobber but I don't consider him the main villain. When you take into account that Uso and one of the villains have known each other for years they probably have the most personal connection out of any villain and protag pairing that I can think of. I honestly think Tomino is just super pissed at Victory cause of all of the executive meddling that went on with it. Victory does have some weird as fuck suit designs though. Not to mention Tomino probably saw nothing but bug eyes and wheels in his nightmares as he was writing this thing, not to mention Tomino was depressed as fuck doing this show and my god it's evident.

Even some of the grunt bad guys had some standards in Victory. Some of them were even shocked at what the war has reduced mankind to.

Thinking of picking up the P-Bandai RG Blue Frame Astray Gundam. Any thoughts on that one?
I got a friend an RG Red Frame and it's almost like an action figure. Reminds me of the Mk.II in terms of playability.

He loved the build process quite a bit since it does a few unique things compared to the 00 Raiser he built before.

Cool, I'll probably pick it up and have it stockpiled for a bit as I get back into the gunpla groove, my friend loves the RG Raiser build so this one seems to be really one to appreciate.

yep bandai does the same for macross. i make sure to grab stuff that hold it's resale value so i can re-sell down the road and not get robbed.

I also really liked Victory, a lot actually. To me, it was like some sort of perfect combination of Zeta's grimdark with ZZ's goofiness, with Uso probably being one of my favorite Gundam protagonist. A lot of the fight scene were pretty fun to watch, given how Victory's docking gimmick allowed it to be more destructible than most protagonist suits and had all sorts of neat tactics (or just shooting limbs at others). I quite liked a lot of the earlier Zanscare suits (Shokew, Zolo, Zoloat) with the beam rotor gimmick, and even some of the wheeled suits were alright.

Can't really disagree about the villains, but Cronicle always felt, despite the mask, more like a Garma clone to me. The naive, honorable "villain" with blood relation to royalty who is taken advantage of by the actual Char.

Yeah I know. I mean Zeta isn't for everybody, but it really does pull on the heart strings when it's not throwing around bitch smacks. I still think Kamille
should've killed Jerid
earlier, but that's just me.

i had a question re UC vs. AU, is it really true that beam sabers that clash in UC don't have the same effect and go right through each other in AU? so AU suits have to defect beam sabers w/ other conventions?
