I come to the point where I might have to start getting rid of boxes. Going to keep the tops and put all the spare parts into zip lock bags

Double Post but Thanks Gundam-GAF for the kit suggestions.

I was only getting the double x but I noticed my store had the wing gundam zero. Also ordered some supplies like masking tape, hobby knife, and matte top spray. Since I have the wing zero I might as well go ahead and pick up the sandrock later this year.

Not sure how to go about panel lining the wings though? any suggestions for the best look on that with markers?

Cool. :) I have a few recommendations for the DX.

One, that you spray over the wrist and leg energy panels with a shiny gold (I used Tamiya metallic gold but that's an expensive can) and that you spray the part of the inner frame visible beneath the clear green parts on the torso with some shiny silver.

The second is that you don't matte coat this kit. The "wing" panels are really something, and a flat top coat on the rest of the kit would draw a bad contrast. I went in a different direction entirely and top coated my DX with a clear pearl (Tamiya's) and am very satisfied with the results.

The glossy finish looks nice and when you get up close on darker pieces...

...the pearl really jumps out at you. The important part for this kit is that the pearl specks mesh really well with the prism paper Bandai gives you for the wings.

I also dabbed some Testors gold in all the black pieces' panel lines but it's a relatively minor addition.

Ahh thanks for the advice^^ now I gotta order supplies

I found some metallic silver and gold spray paint but instead of pearl could I get away with using gloss white or flat white??

also when coating it do I coat the non white parts as well?

I can't ever bring myself to get rid of them. I have 20 years of boxes in closets and storage going back to my first ever kit in 96(0083 Gerbera Tetra) :(

I use them to hold kits I don't have out on my shelves anymore.

EDIT: HOLY SHIT. Just realized as of this summer it will have been LITERALLY 20 years since I got my first kit.

I can't say without knowing what specific paints you're talking about (and even still I probably wouldn't know about them). If they're not clear paints though, no.. I also don't know how good clear white would look on this kit, and colored clear paints can be tricky to apply if you're inexperienced (the pigment has a tendency to pool). They're also not used as a top coat as they're unprotected.

I recommend a colorless top coat. Colorless gloss would work as an alternative to pearl clear. No speckles but a nice sheen. And of course you can just go with colorless flat too if you want.

also when coating it do I coat the non white parts as well?

I'll just tell you what I do with a regular top coat. When I do straight builds, I assemble the kit in parts (legs, arms, torso, waist, head, weapons, etc.) and coat those individually, bending the parts as needed to hit every nook and cranny. I also make a point of not attaching any clear pieces that come with the kit until after I've top coated, if I can. The MG DX makes this pretty easy for the most part.

There's definitely something up with the Balaeenas

Yeah, I know. The weird part is that they look pretty normal from the backside when they're put away. I don't know what to think. The designers are taking allot of liberties but if we're looking at this right this goes too far to even call them the same guns anymore.

Just a transformation gimmick like the Metal Build Destiny beam cannon it seems

I don't mind it, just don't transform it if you don't like it I guess. It just doesn't have much color separation which worries me about foil seals...

I welcome added features to a kit like the transformations on the Nu Ver Ka and the Sazabi Ver Ka. At times I wish the Hi Nu ver Ka had one.

I will laugh if this has premolded hands and not articulated.

EDIT: Full page scan. As odd as the cannons look, the design is pretty sleek.

Kshatriya will be my first RE and it will go nicely with my MG Full Armor Unicorn. Maybe pick up a Sinanju too, I would get the Banshee + Armed Armor DE set but I don't want to do another Unicorn after FAUC and fuck Riddhe.

Can't wait to paint this for my MG Armed Armor DE Full Armor Unicorn and add decal to it. I need to find a way to get these shield funnels to sit on an action base as effect parts. Maybe get a wire or some alligator clips. I wish Bandai would give us something to hold our funnels with...

Man, I saw a couple of spoiler-free impressions of SEED Destiny just now, and... boy, people really hate this show, huh?

M-maybe I should t-take a break after SEED and check out one of the many other Gundam shows I haven't seen...

(Speaking of which, I'll be seeing more SEED with coopermidnight tomorrow.)

I'd probably wait and see how you feel after SEED. If you don't feel burned out, trudge right on through.

Back when I was jobless last summer and had nothing better to do I marathoned all of SEED and DESTINY in about two weeks (which is also how I discovered my Vol. 10 of Destiny had scratches I didn't know about and made the entire disc unplayable ;_; substituted the last half hour of movie 3 for those 4 episodes).

Also, if anyone tells you toothpaste can clean a DVD, they lie. Or use different brand toothpaste.

Bandai has custom stands and accessories for certain poses. They don't release any of them except as P-Bandai as like a 3,000円+ accessory. Bandai says you can use the Nu Ver Ka stand but I don't have a Nu Ver Ka and if I did I would want to use that stand for the Nu funnels. The Sazabi ones are just yellow plastic parts that are expensive too.

Kits like Qubeley and Kshatriya and FullCorn need some work around so that the funnels can be displayed.

Why would you ever use toothpaste to clean a disc, that's like rubbing a DVD with fine 400 sandpaper.

Toothpaste will scratch your discs. I am so glad that BD and Digital exist now, DVD and taking care of DVD sucks. All my DVD I just rip them to hard drive and never touch them ever again.

My roommate actually did it when I asked if he had anything to help with scratches. I'd have been pissed at him over the end result if RightStuf wasn't selling vol.10 for only $5 so no big deal.

actually, toothpaste works, yes, as a fine abrasive but also as a polish. it takes time,
you can start with a 2000 W&S to get out the sratches but will leave it cloudy, then use tooth paste to give it a clear polish shine.

here's an example i just did last month a huge scratch on a clear canopy buffed out using toothpaste;

I just assumed it wouldn't work on a disc since data is stored on there.

The Efreet Kai looks good and it doesn't look like it will have a lot of foil seal hopefully.

I am glad that it is getting a wide release but I wonder if it was possible to just reuse a Zaku or Gouf frame and make the Efreet an MG instead. I feel like if they went that route it might have ended up a P-Bandai release...

I'm worried that the RE1/100 Kshatriya will have terrible foil seals for the white Zeon markings on the chest and arms. I really hope they add in waterslides for that or do it like they did for the MG Sinanju.

I don't mind doing a reverse wash but I would prefer doing decals.

Do it all in one clean swoop and then never go back to it again if you don't want to. I don't hate it enough to never watch it again, but there are things in the show that are just completely cringe worthy.

SEED is better than SEED Destiny is all I'm going to say. Sahashi's music is the highlight of the SEED franchise though.

Well, I like all of 00 (except maybe the movie, it's too weird at points) so we all have our niche. :p (Haven't seen AGE, though. But I know a guy who loves it -- you're not alone!)

I'd go a lot faster with these shows I watch if I didn't watch them with my friend, but at least half the enjoyment for us comes from piggybacking off of one-another's lame jokes together while we're watching, haha. I'd probably be done with SEED by now, but I wouldn't like it as much.

Yeah, there may be burnout.

Duly noted. :\

Sahashi did the soundtracks for both shows, right?

Got the MG V2 Wings of Light in today. To my surprised, Bandai has significantly re-engineered the Action Base 1 with this. It is now completely screw-less. Forgive me if they did this a while ago, but haven't seen it mentioned so I thought it would point it out.

The top tilt is now done with a locking mechanism, this allows it to hold more weight and hold longer at the expense of a little bit of granularity of motion. A significant upgrade IMO.

The little arm that tilts the large arm has also been changed.

It's now a sliding and locking mechanism instead of the cylindrical lock like the old AB1. It's not a huge chance, it provides a bit more stability and a slightly greater range of motion. Still interesting to see the AB1 get a change like that over all this time.

I hope they roll this new action base out as the default and change the AB2 in a similar way. It's really a great update.

I'll try and grab some pics of the WoL themselves at the same time I finally grab some pics of the RX-78 Origin.

SEED DESTINY is a bad show, but unlike the other Gundam shows I'd consider bad it's also very entertainingly bad. Especially when watched with a friend making goofs.

They have used this stand since the MG Fenice Rinascita and seem to slowly be moving towards the new Action Base.

It's just that there are so many Action Bases from 2006 still out on the market and being sold by retailers that it will take a while until these become standard. Not many retailers differentiate between the two and the only way to find out I think is to see what year it is made.

That said, I didn't really mind the screw since I could always just tighten it more but everything else about that stand is an improvement.

That pearl white looks nice and I wonder if that is exclusive to the kit. I don't think I have seen that finish before on an action base since they are sold in clear, white, or black.

Does this new Action base balance better at the base? I know for heavier kits and poses that extend the arm to the highest, the peg connection to the base is loose and sometimes it would lift it from the base and fall. Kind of annoying but I deal with it.

I missed that change. The old AB1 was fine, but this definitely feels like a nice improvement. New base is rock solid in terms of construction I actually had trouble pulling the balance arm out to put it in a new slot it was so tight.

The pearl finish is really nice and has a good premium feel to it. I suspect they'll keep it exclusive to make premium ABs feel special. It'd be nice if they started selling it. A new Wing Zero Custom MG would look great on that base.

Have they started actually selling the new ABs or are they just in kits that include one? I realize that going through all that old stock and getting the new design in there would take quite a while.

Where did you order them so I can buy it now?

I preordered my set from Nippon-Yassan. Unfortunately they are currently OOS, but they may add more a bit later at a higher price once the actual 1-25 release date hits.

https://www.nippon-yasan.com/figures/14666-mg-1-100-v2-gundam-verka-expansion-effect-unit-wings-of-light-limited-edition.html

Unfortunately, P-Bandai stuff can be hard to get outside of preorders unless they do a second printing. Your best bet is watching that Nippon-Yassan page or keeping an eye on http://www.mandarake.co.jp. They are a store that sells used hobby items, so it's a great place to get out of print kits. Ebay shops might also get them, so if you see a decent price there, jump on it before they get really rare.

Oh they release next week! Cool then I will pre order from gundam planet. I ve been putting it off but this I am forreal

They do have them. I checked there and thought they were sold out. Absolutely grab them ASAP as they will only get rarer as time goes. G-Planet is a tad on a high side compared to what I paid, but only like $10 off.

Dude there are cringe worthy elements to almost every Gundam show. Pretty much watching Shinn whacking off his own ego and then getting that same ego crammed down his throat is the best part. It's pretty much just a half ass poorly realized Zeta Gundam, but it is fun to watch the train wreck. It doesn't even start off too badly, but I do like seeing some of the Seed characters grown up with actual lives. I just wish some parts of it were just completely cut out of it.

damn it's 40 bucks at gundam planet, yikes!

I paid that much shipped for mine. I could've saved maybe $10 more if I went with super slow shipping, but I hate not having tracking and by the point you pay for tracking you might as well spend the extra $5 or so to get them real fast. The fact you can't really order a bunch of stuff and combine shipping on P-Bandai stuff is a real wallet killer.

yami4ct

Assuming the AB Parts end up being P-Bandai as well (a good bet as those who would know have hinted at that being the case), I would keep an eye on Nippon-Yassan if you're going to end up with those as well. Paying $40 at Gundam Planet isn't the worst and better than missing them completely, but you'll save a good amount of cash going through one of the Japanese middleman sites like Gentei Kits or N-Y.

true, i got some pre-orders there. i always use slow poke shipping w small stuff. but that make sense.

Least I am getting another stand with it

yeah, it's about the same as nippon yasan using fast shipping,

gundam planet used to offer free shipping but had to change bc their bulk discount deal w ups got canned.

now i'm tempted heheh
