The Gundam |OT2| Another 5 years of Gunpla, Origins, and GUNDAMUUUU!

It's a wash. The Gundam dubs are truly great(except for the asian english dubs and the original movie dub).

I would recommend.

Movie Trilogy->08th MS->Igloo->0080->0083->Z->ZZ->CCA->Unicorn->F91->V

You could totally watch the 0079 series if you want, but a lot of it isn't canon. Avoid Last Blitz of Zeon, Miller Report, and Zeta Gundam movie trilogy. They are all flawed in their own ways.

Miller Report is worth a watch after watching the 08th OVAs for the extra stuff, there is also a newer 08th MS team short that is decent. Zeta Gundam trilogy is patently not canon and incompatible with ZZ+. It's also really jarring the mix of 80s animation and 00s animation. G-reco is also kind of a mess and while technically it follows the UC timeline, I wouldn't count on that ever being acknowledged.

Also don't forget Thunderbolt! It's really good. Next ep. out in February!

I'll stop now before I start going into my favorite manga and novels and reference books and video game side stories that are hard to find, lol.

I didn't watch any anime from 2002-2011, at which time my friend threw me back into it. 00 sounded cool so I checked it out first. I soon realized I'd caught the first episode on SyFy when it premiered here in the States.

I also realized I'd loved the first episode and I kicked myself for not continuing at that time.

Quick question for anyone with the MG Aile Strike ver. RM or is at least knowledgeable about it.

That P-Bandai expansion for it that comes with the Launcher and Sword Striker...aren't they the exact same as what came with the older Launcher/Sword Strike MG? So I could use those parts and spend less rather than trying to hunt down the P-Bandai set?

yessssssssssss

wait

isn't that a link to the article some folks were talking about the other day, about how given the site's history, it could just mean two parts to the first season, and that G-Reco had a second season listed there, too?

Exactly.

The source is simply an Amazon listing for an S2 OST. They did the same with G-Reco.

But GundamGuy ran with it so it must be true!

Heero: Setsuna F. Seiei…! You are not Gundam!
Setsuna: !
Heero: That is why you must become Gundam!
Setsuna: I will BECOME GUNDAM!
Setsuna: Heero Yui… You said that you are not like me. But you are wrong. You too are Gundam.
Heero: I see.

So who was Gundam?

That dialogue is the most amazing thing I've read in 2016.

As for the Wing->00 comparisons, I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the "spiritual remake" thing was intentional? Maybe not. I know the comparison is what compelled me to hop back into the franchise after nearly a decade away from it, in any case.

Was it?

I've never seen anything official from Sunrise, Writer, or Director that confirmed it. That said given my hate of OO I haven't bothered to look that deep, but it wouldn't shock me given Trans AM is pretty much the Hyper system from G Unit.

Ahh, yeah, it's probable that I'm just thinking of fandom reception, then, and not official statements.

Which means I've been telling people something that might not be true for years. Whoops!

Nah.....

Heero can't be a Gundam, he is a bitch farmer on Mars who can't get his wife to call him a name he likes....lol

Why you got to do this? lol.
I wonder if Bandai have any editors who reign writers in and if there are why the hell did they allow Frozen Teardrop to come out as it is? If they didn't have any editors then why the hell weren't there any? I mean yeah Gundam shows might not be masterpieces but from the details you reveal it feels like pure madness.

It's obvious they do not have editors.

Snow White and the rest where meant to have new designs and it was revealed the only reason they didn't is Katoki was feeling Lazy and only wanted to do Covers for the volumes.....I mean fucking hell, it's clear no one did anything other then receive the pages at Gundam ACE and insert them into it.

Apart of me wonders if this isn't exactly why Sumizawa did this, granted we know his wife's health was failing during part of it but aside from that which is no laughing matter every thing else just seems odd for the man. It's like he wanted to just go completely ham and see what if anything would happen.

Hell Snow White has three versions of the same Gundam, while there are 4 Relena's and 3 Heero's plus Odin Lowe and it got revealed that Heero is apart of Treize's family tree as well in some off shot way ......no one could approve this.

A bit late, but if you're going to watch anything dubbed, watch the movie trilogy. British Bright is best Bright.

It amuses me how contradictory the stances on the movies are. It seems like the most commonly-derided dub, except when it isn't.

For my money, having seen the trilogy dubbed a few years ago, not only is Brit!Bright best Bright, but Blum!Char is also best Char.

Also, I just read about Frozen Teardrop.

Lol, wtf, bbq.

Oh them is fighting words.

Nothing is better then Original Eng Char. To this lady the three best English roles are English OG Char, Mark Heero and Duo.

But technically doesn't that mean you're agreeing with me? The movie dub pre-dates the show. :p :p :p

Scott Mcneill has been what? 3 Gundam bad guys or something? I'm pretty sure Duo is his only hero character with Gundam, did a good job though.

Lol well that is a huge Oversight on my end...good call out.

Okay TV 0079,Zeta, and CCA Char is best Char. My biggest disappointment with Unicorn is he didn't voice Full Frontal,

Speaking of which, the third OG movie has extra content for the climactic battle, right? I've never actually watched the series, just the films + played the PS2 games. I'm almost tempted to change that, except that I seem to remember A Baoa Qu (which I probably misspelled) being superior in the movies.

Aside from my hate of 78-2 (just to plain and the flat feet kill me) I can't ever bring myself to watch 0079 for the same reason as OO and that is having Qautre voice the leads, just eww.

That said I do recommend the TV to people over the movies, but then I like the longer more drawn out aspect of the TV series and always prefer shows to movies for anime.

I'm the same way about TV-versus-compilations. It's just that when I watched the movies (circa 2012) I had someone insisting to me that they're far, far superior, so I went for it.

But Brad Swaile is in every Ocean dub.

He was holding the designs back in case FT ever got animated, right? I believe I read that (I might have posted it here too, don't recall), and Sumizawa had to beg him to use Snow White on that volume cover.

It wasn't they were hold back, he just didn't do them.

He literally reused Endless Waltz designs because he didn't want to do new designs. It was nothing like a plan to keep things exciting or a potential surprise.

He just wanted to do covers.

If Snow White was begged for it was because even Sumizawa was desperate after 5 years to have at least something new.

Found it. I believe it's from an interview (possibly that artbook that came out around Christmas?), it was all over some (now archived) /m/ threads around late December.

Katoki didn't want to reveal the design of Snow White until Frozen Tear Drop receives anime treatment. The author convinces him otherwise and Snow White ends up on the latest cover.

Basically the reason we didn't get the MS in the novel was Katoki stubbornly keeping the designs secret for the eventual anime. Sumisawa begged him to do Snow White for vol 12 cover

As for the Katoki thing, Sumisawa says that he stubbornly said he didn't want to reveal the design until it was animated. He also goes on to say that Katoki, being who he is, would probably turn around and change the design should an anime happen.

Though as long as it's been I doubt we'll get an anime.

How long would a hypothetical Frozen Teardrop anime be, if it ever happened?

I ask because I'm hazy on how manga volumes/light novel volumes tend to translate to anime adaptations. I know Unicorn was 10 (well, soon to be at least 11) volumes and it got turned into seven lengthy episodes.

Hm. Unless what I read was a decidedly wrong Translation that is taken the words of Sumizawa way out of context.

I can't read Japanese so I will not say Which is wrong, but given they didn't even do that for Unicorn and we already saw heavy recycle I'm highly dubious that is actually the correct representation,
